1. PLANNING INFORMATION

A. EFFECTIVITY
Part I
All A109S helicopters equipped with one of the following torque tube assemblies:
 P/N 109-0210-02-1;
 P/N 109-0210-02-5;
 P/N 109-0210-02-7;
 P/N 109-0210-02-109;
 P/N 109-0210-02-111.

NOTE
In case the two sleeves have different debonding
values, refer to the highest recorded debonding value.
Part II
All A109S helicopters compliant with Part I with at least one of the sleeves having a
debonding value higher than 50% and lower or equal to 85%.
Part III
All A109S helicopters compliant with Part I with at least one of the sleeves having a
debonding value higher than 85% and lower or equal to 95%.
Part IV
All A109S helicopters compliant with Part I with at least one of the sleeves having a
debonding value higher than 95%.

B. COMPLIANCE

NOTE
Following the application of this Service Bulletin, refer to
AMPI Chapter 5, Task 55-01 in order to perform the
subsequent inspections every 800FH.
Part I
Within and not later than 50 flight hours after the issue of this Service Bulletin.
Part II
Within and not later than 800 flight hours after the application of the Part I.
Part III
Within and not later than 200 flight hours after the application of the Part I.
Part IV
Within and not later than 100 flight hours after the application of the Part I.

C. CONCURRENT REQUIREMENTS

D. REASON
This Service Bulletin is issued in order to perform a tap test inspection of the two
sleeves installed on the torque tube assy to identify possible de-bonded surfaces.

E. DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this Service Bulletin is to prescribe a tap test inspection of the sleeves
installed on the torque tube assy in order to map the level of debonding of the sleeve
and, if necessary, to replace the torque tube assy within the relative compliance time.
The torque tube assy applicable for the tap-test are the following:
 P/N 109-0210-02-1;
 P/N 109-0210-02-5;
 P/N 109-0210-02-7;
 P/N 109-0210-02-109;
 P/N 109-0210-02-111.

F. APPROVAL
The technical content of this Service Bulletin is approved under the authority of DOA
nr. EASA.21.J.005. For helicopters registered under other Aviation Authorities, before
applying the Service Bulletin, applicable Aviation Authority approval must be checked
within Local Aviation Authority.
EASA states mandatory compliance with inspections, modifications or technical
directives and related time of compliance by means of relevant Airworthiness
Directives.
If an aircraft listed in the effectivity embodies a modification or repair not LH certified
and affecting the content of this Service Bulletin, it is responsibility of the
Owner/Operator to obtain a formal approval by Aviation Authority having jurisdiction on
the aircraft, for any adaptation necessary before incorporation of the present Service
Bulletin.

G. MANPOWER
To comply with this Service Bulletin, approximately the following MMH are deemed
necessary:
Part I: fourteen (14)
Part II: ten(10)
Part III: ten (10)
Part IV: ten (10)
MMH are based on hands-on time and can change with helicopter configuration,
personnel and facilities available. MMH are not comprehensive of the overall hours
necessary to get access to work areas and to remove all the equipment that interferes
with the application of the prescribed instructions.

C. INDUSTRY SUPPORT INFORMATION
Operators who comply with the instructions of this Service Bulletin within scheduled
interval as per the “Compliance” section will be eligible to receive REQUIRED
MATERIALS on free of charge basis, except for Consumable Materials and Special
Tools.
NOTE: Customers who fail to comply with the instructions in this Service Bulletin before
the compliance date are not eligible for the aforementioned special policy.
Please Issue relevant MMIR form to your Warranty Administration Dpt., Including
Inspection Report Form in Figure 3, stamped and signed, complete of notes and
pictures of the affected component(s), after the inspection required.
Claims without the aforementioned report will be rejected.
NOTE: WRM will include RETURN MATERIAL AUTHORIZATION (RMA) number; the
unit disembarked from the aircraft (Tube Assy P/N 109-0210-02-XXX) has to be
returned to LHD within thirty (30) calendar days after the shipment of the replacement
part. In case of missing return within thirty (30) calendar days, Customer will be invoiced
for the price of the replacement part (Tube Assy P/N 109-0210-02-XXX).

3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS

GENERAL NOTES
a) Place an identification tag on all components that
are re-usable, including the attaching hardware that
has been removed to gain access to the modification
area and adequately protect them until their later re-
use.
b) All lengths are in mm.

PART I
1. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-00-20-00-00A-120A-A, prepare the helicopter on
ground for a safe maintenance. Disconnect the battery, all electrical power sources and/or
the external power supply.

NOTE
The torque tube assemblies applicable and referred in
this procedure are the following:
 P/N 109-0210-02-1;
 P/N 109-0210-02-5;
 P/N 109-0210-02-7;
 P/N 109-0210-02-109;
 P/N 109-0210-02-111.

2. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-06-41-00-00A-010A-A and with reference to Figures 1


and 2, remove all external panels, internal panels and internal liners as required to gain
access to the area affected and perform the inspection as described in the following
procedure:
2.1 In accordance with the applicable steps of AMP DM 0B-A-55-11-03-00A-520A-
ADM03, remove the torque tube assy.
2.2 In accordance with CSPP DM CSPP-A-60-30-02-01A-913A-D and with reference
to Figure 1, perform the tap-test of the two sleeves P/N 109-0210-08-1 installed on
the torque tube without removing sleeves.
2.3 Note the results of the debonding value obtained from the tap test in the Inspection
Report Form shown in Figure 3.

2.4 Inspect the torque tube and sleeve for presence of cracks and trace of corrosion.
Take pictures of any identified defect on the assembly and attach them to the
Inspection Report Form shown in Figure 3, record and send it to Product Support
Engineering ([email protected]).
2.5 If the debonding area of each sleeve is less than 50%, continue with step 3,
otherwise go to step 2.6.
2.6 If the debonding area of at least one of the two sleeves is more than 50% proceed
with Part II, Part III or Part IV as per the debonding value found in paragraph 1.A
and according to the compliance time specified in paragraph 1.B
3. In accordance with the applicable steps of AMP DM 0B-A-55-11-03-00A-720A-A, re-install
the torque tube assy.
4. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-06-41-00-00A-010A-A, re-install all external panels
and internal panels previously removed.
5. Return the helicopter to flight configuration and record for compliance with this Service
Bulletin on the helicopter logbook.
6. Gain access to My Communications section on Leonardo Customer Portal and compile
the “Service - Technical Bulletin Application”.

PART II, PART III AND PART IV
1. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-00-20-00-00A-120A-A, prepare the helicopter on

2. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-06-41-00-00A-010A-A and with reference to Figures 1


and 2, remove all external panels, internal panels and internal liners as required to gain
access to the area affected.
3. In accordance with the applicable steps of AMP DM 0B-A-55-11-03-00A-520A-A, remove
the torque tube assy.
4. Replace the torque tube assy with a new one. The replaced torque tube assy and related
sleeves need to be returned to LHD for investigation/repair.
5. In accordance with the applicable steps of AMP DM 0B-A-55-11-03-00A-720A-A, re-install
the torque tube assy.
6. In accordance with AMP DM 0B-A-06-41-00-00A-010A-A, re-install all external panels and
internal panels previously removed.
7. Return the helicopter to flight configuration and record for compliance with the applicable
Part II, Part III or Part IV of this Service Bulletin on the helicopter logbook.
8. Gain access to My Communications section on Leonardo Customer Portal and compile
the “Service - Technical Bulletin Application”.
