INTRODUCTION
From my point of view, field trip is the best way for students to learn
experiences in their interested field. Internships are not just processes that help
students gain knowledge or practical experience in a specialized area. The benefits
of the internship students receive will be more than they would expect if they were
looking for a real internship opportunity. Field trip is the opportunity for students
tolook at the day-to-day work at a company, culture and working environment,
therefore, students could understand more about the industry that they are oriented.
What students think maybe will be completely different from reality. In conclusion,
field trip is an important step for students to have time to orient and develop career
after graduation.

A few weeks ago, I had a great chance to visit Nam Hai Dinh Vu port in Hai
Phongcity. At the port, I observed directly some main operations such as loading/
un-loading, stuffing/ un-stuffing, moving containers in container yard and so on.
Thetrip helps me understand deeply how a port operates, how containers loads
onship… I feel very happy to learn about them so I decide to take my report about
Nam Hai Dinh Vu port. This is my knowledge and information that I acquire from
the trip and find out on some website.

In this report, I focus primarily on the three main parts;

 Part 1: Introduction of Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port.

 Part 2: Description Of Business Activities at Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port.

 Part 3: Conclusion.

I am pleased to receive your suggestion to complete and improve my report.

3. EVALUATIONS
3.1 Strengths

1) NDP port area is in a favorable position to develop. (Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port
is located in the lower Cam River, welcoming the gateway to the Cam River. With a
depth of 11.5 m and a quay area of 250 m, Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port has a big
advantage compared to other ports in Hai Phong and can receive 30,000 tons of
cargo ships.)

2) Having a young and dynamic staffs

3) The facilities are well equipped, well taken care of and if any damages
occur the company will get new ones or it's been fixed immediately. Then the
computer system is also well upgraded with lots of information.

4) Private owned company. Gemadept is now the leading company in port

services and logistics. Gemadept's port services have a huge advantage from the
transportation support services in particular and logistics in general, creating a
closed loop that supports the strength of all operations within the Group. , provide
customers with the highest quality services and most reasonable price. Good
partnerships with other ports in the region are also the strength of Gemadept, so that
Nam Hai Dinh Vu and Nam Hai Ports have the flexibility to arrange berths and
exploiting solutions.

5) Full package service. The NDP offer a different range of service to satisfy
customer's needs. Customer's satisfaction is always the most important thing in Nam
Hai Dinh Vu port.

3.2 Oportunities

1) The cargo through Hai Phong area port system has high growth potential
after FTAs are signed.

2) High economic growth rate: Increased imports will maintain high

consumption and export of goods will also increase.

Vũ Hoàng Yến- IBL0701 Page 14

NAM HAI DINH VU PORT

3) There are many industrial projects in the Hai Phong area as well as in the
Tonkin Gulf: there are many industrial projects, companies and factories here will
be potential port customer.

3.3 Weaknesses

1) NDP is not yet large enough to accommodate international heavy tonnage

vessels. Some large vessels still have to move through the ports of Singapore, Hong
Kong ... to transport, which causes revenue loss.

2) Located at the downstream of a large number of large rivers, NDP has to

spend a large amount of money to dredge regularly, repair and maintain navigable
party to ensure design standards

3.4 Threatens

1) High competition among port enterprises in Hai Phong such as: Dinh Vu
port, Hoang Dieu port, Tan Vu port, etc...

Vũ Hoàng Yến- IBL0701 Page 15

NAM HAI DINH VU PORT

CONCLUSION
According to my understanding, NDP is working well now. With the
advantages about the location, the up- to- date facilities, and the trained staffs, i
think NDP will work hard enough to become a leading enterprise in the exploitation
of seaports and maritime services and gain the big profit in the future. It will
continue to ensure production stability, continue to invest in depth, develop in the
direction of modernization, improve productivity, quality, meet the needs of
customers better.

Going to the company Nam Hai Dinh Vu has helped me: understanding the
terms used in Maritime field, applying and practicing everything I learnt in class
into the reality. It has also given me an insight on my career improvement after
university.
