1) What are the primary types of criteria used to analyze learners?

General characteristics of learners, specific entry competencies and learning styles.

2) Why are learning objectives an important aspect of lesson planning?

They are important because they serve the basis of the Assure Models three components. The first
is the basis for strategies, technology and media selection, which means that teachers will be able to
choose the strategies, technologies and media that will ensure learning. The second is a basic
assessment, which ensures that teachers ensure an objective assessment of the learning process.
The third is the basis for students learning aspirations, which ensures that students should be able
to prepare for learning activities.
3) What are the five basic steps for utilizing technology, media, and materials?

It is called 5P’s:

Preview the resources, prepare the resources, prepare the learning environment, prepare the
learners and provide the learning experience.
4) Describe methods of eliciting student participation when using technology and media during
instruction?

Technology and media affects student engagement in the classroom in a variety of ways. First, it
brings innovation and creative skills to students. This offers students the ability to analyze and use
knowledge in science. This develops student critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making
skills. The use of educational tools also helps students to work at their own pace. Finally, the use of
other platforms for discussions and brief quizzes helps students to improve their skills.

Number of Students: 18 students: 10 females/8 males
Age Range: 14-15 years old
Learner Profile: 30% of class IEP, 60% average ability, 10% advanced ability
Prior Knowledge
Identification of Prerequisite Skills Needed for Lesson:
 Knowledge of Newton’s Laws of Motion
1. Newton’s 1st law was introduced in prior lessons
 Knowledge of PhET simulation application
1. Used on various simulations in previous lessons as a virtual lab.
Learning Styles
-Visual: 50%
-Auditory: 20%
-Kinesthetic: 30%
STATE OBJECTIVES
STANDARDS
State standards: Romanian Baccalaureate Standard
Grade Level: 9
Key Ideas and Details
1. Knowing the Newton’s First Law, Inertia and Mass and State of Motion
2. Knowing the difference between balanced and unbalanced forces
3. Apply newton’s 2nd law to find force, mass and acceleration.
OBJECTIVES
Lesson Objective(s): (ABCD)
1. Given a simulation that shows balanced and unbalanced forces (conditions), students (audience)
will complete a Kahoot quiz with 7 questions based on the video (behavior). The students will
have to score at least 4/7 (degree).
2. Given the PhET application (condition), students (audience) will create a balanced force
simulation (behavior). The students simulations must score at least 7/10 (degree).
SELECT METHODS, MEDIA AND MATERIALS METHODS:
Pedagogical Strategy (or Strategies):
 Interactive Instruction (Discuss Objectives/Watch a simulation) auditory
 Project-based (Creating a simulation on PhET simulation) visual
 Active Learning (using PhET to create simulations) kinesthetic

MEDIA AND MATERIALS:

Instructional Media and Materials:
 Teachers PowerPoint for lesson (will be shared with class on Google Classroom)
 Kahoot quiz questions shared on Google Classroom
 18 iPads and 18 tablet pens for students
UTILIZE MEDIA, MATERIALS AND METHODS
PREVIEW: PowerPoint (prepare for discussion)
PREPARE MATERIALS: Kahoot quiz and PhET simulation
PREPARE ENVIRONMENT: 1 student per table facing the smartboard
PREPARE LEARNERS: Students get their iPads and tablet pens on the desk
PROVIDE EXPERIENCES: *see instructional plan
REQUIRE LEARNER PARTICIPATION
INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN
Length: 1 Class Period (50 mins)
Sequence of instructional procedures/activities/events:
Presentation of New Information or Modelling:
The PowerPoint presentation on Newton’s Laws of Motion will be on smartboard. Students will
first recall on their knowledge on laws of motion and answer the warm up question on the first slide.
Next the objectives of the lesson will be reviewed and the lesson will be taught by the teacher.
Guided Practice:
Students will watch a simulation on the topic and then take the kahoot quiz.
Independent Student Practice:
Students will create their own simulation on PhET applications and calculate the net force of the
unbalanced forces.
Closing Procedure:
Students will copy their simulations and calculations on Google Docs and share it on Google
Classroom with the teacher.
Differentiated Instruction:
No ELL students, no students with hearing or physical disabilities, and/or gifted/accelerated
learners.
Use of Technology:
Teachers will facilitate lessons with the use of a Smartboard with a projector. The students will
use internet to access kahoot quiz. The students will also use a PhET application.
EVALUATE AND REVISE
Student Performance:
Kahoot quiz and unbalanced forces simulations activity must reach a 70% proficiency rating.
Media Effectiveness:
Was the power point visually stimulating and understandable?
Were students able to use iPads and access Kahoot and PhET simulation with ease?
What problems occurred during the lesson or independent practice?
What was the overall response to the use of PhET?
Instructor Performance:
*Hand out “ Rate my Teacher” survey: students will rate teacher in four categories
Rating 1= poor 2= needs some improvement 3= proficient
Questions
1. The teacher effectively communicated the content to the class. 1 2 3
2. The Kahoot and PhET was a fair way to assess my knowledge of the content 1 2 3
3. The technology was easy to figure out and access. 1 2 3
