ICAST 2019 Program
ICAST 2019 Program
Welcome Message
Consistent with previous ICAST conferences, the goal of ICAST-2019 is to provide a platform for
researchers, engineers, as well as industrial professionals of Ethiopia and participants from Africa
and abroad to present and discuss their innovative research results in Science and Technology. The
conference will include keynote/plenary speakers, oral presentations in parallel sessions, posters,
and technology exhibitions to allow attendants to present their scientific results on different
thematic areas of science and technology. We hope that many young engineers and scientists will
take this opportunity to extend their network and have scientific discussions with some of the
leading scientist in science and technology.
To put a conference of this magnitude together is not an easy task. To that end, we want to thank
the organizing committees for their dedication to organize all sessions and tracks; European
Innovation Alliance (EIA) group for providing their conference organizing knowledge and
guidance; BiT management for their hard work in support of many conference activities including
the invitation letters, logistic arrangement and the extra funding needed to make this conference
successful. Lastly, we would like to thank all of the conference participants for their scientific
contributions.
The City of Bahir Dar, one of the leading tourist destinations in Ethiopia, with a variety of
attractions in the nearby Lake Tana and Blue Nile River, will make your participation in ICAST-
2019 a memorable event. Welcome to Bahir Dar and we hope you will enjoy your stay!

degrees from the University of Grenoble (a.k.a Universite Joseph Fourier), France, in 1974 and 1976
respectively. He received the PhDEE in 1978 (with Highest Honors, “Mention Tres Bien et Felicitations du
Jury”), from the Ecole Nationale d’Electronique et de Radioelectricite de Grenoble (ENSERG) of the
National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (France). In 1986, he took a two-year leave of absence from
UDC to serve as Member of the Engineering Staff at the New Products Laboratory of RCA, where he was
responsible of the design of a full custom VLSI chip design for high-end TV sets. He was the Principal
Investigator of several research grants including NSF and NASA grants totaling more than $500,000. He
was selected by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) as a Summer Faculty Research Fellow at the Naval
Research Lab, in Washington D.C. for 8 consecutive summers from 1998. His research interests include
applied superconductivity for IR detection; laser direct writing of electronic components and sensors; solar
cell efficiency; and application of solar energy for rural and urban off-grid and hybrid utilizations. He has
published more 40 technical and conference papers. He is a life senior member of IEEE.
