Topic: Identifying the Inquiry and Stating the Problem

Procedure:
A. Engage
Several situations will be presented to the students:
A doctor interviews the patient for age, medical history, and other symptoms he
experienced in the past before making conclusive statement about the patient’s
sickness.
A lending institution checks the financial status, residence, and payment of bills of
the consumer who wanted to loan an amount of money.
A businessperson wanted to make a survey of the land before putting up his
building.
A lot owner wanted to investigate the land area, quality of materials, and model or
design before building the house.
A scientist observes different factors and cases of landslides in the past why the
particular area of land is prone to landslide.
An ecologist looked back and made study on the booming population of certain snails
and as to why they became a pest in the farmland.
A businessman tracks previous economic rates and status of supply and demand for
the last 5 years before making final decisions on his business plans.

and Technology, Engineering, Business, Medicine)
Based on the given examples, what part of the research paper requires us to study other
factors before conducting the investigation?

B. Explore
1. The teacher will explain the objectives of the lesson to the students.
2. The students will form groups and each group will assign roles to each member. (Facilitator,
spokesperson, recorder, and Media person).
3. The teacher will provide each group with a POGIL handout/worksheet personally made by the
teacher on the topic: Background of the Study.
4. Each group will work for 20 minutes to discuss and answer. Each individual student should
answer the worksheet in their own notebook
5. The answers will be checked and discussed. The teacher will facilitate discussion.
6. After discussion, each group will be given 30 minutes to write one paragraph as a starting
paragraph for their Background of the Study.
7. Students will be allowed to use cellphone in this part of the activity to facilitate easier
research. However, the teacher should be on close monitor to be able to check if students are
working with their cell phone for the topic.
8. Each group should write their Background of the Study in their Research Workbook.
9. A Rubric for their output will be given to each group. See attached Rubric.
C. Explain
