1. What ethical principles are being upheld/violated following:

a. Eliminating outdated rule – In the implementation of triaging and handling the cases of
COVID, the statement of Trump and on how eliminating the outdated rule may disrupt the long
followed and standardized system. Justice can be equally and unequally be upheld as this was an
issue that rose as senators were the ones first to be tested rather than the masses. While the later
implementation of it and allowing the masses to be tested to be able to identify the people who
are positive and be able to decrease possible cases and control the growing population. It can
both promote and inhibit beneficence depending on the affected people and how the government
will plan their actions.
b. Using compassion rule – Compassion trespasses the standard rules that we follow.
Nonmaleficence is upheld as the actions for recovery and addressing concerns of the masses can
be done according to the gravity of the situation. Justice is also upheld as long as those who are
in dire need are given treatment and access to facilities rather than those who are of power—
giving special treatment for them to feel well and continue their health, not minding those who
are less fortunate and affected. Fidelity is another ethical principle upheld that promotes the
service of those in the medical field and with authority to help people get the care they need and
be able to survive their condition.
2. In the Philippines Enhanced Community Quarantine is being implemented nationwide.
Cite what ethical principle is being upheld/violated and explain your answer.
- Justice has been somehow a mix of being upheld and violated as there rose an issue on special
people with power tested before the masses and how application of equity to rights of people.
Notably, in the case of senator Francis “Koko” Pimentel is said to have breached and broken the
said protocol and was not detained in jail. Other senators reasoned with his supervised his then-
pregnant wife as she gave birth. At the same time, it was ordered by the president that those who
violate the lockdown are to be imprisoned for breaking it, and there were some reports of people
detained for disobeying it.
3. Cite other management being implemented in other countries and state what ethical
principles are being upheld/violated and explain why.
Based on the article I have read, all of the stated countries practiced beneficence through the
form of social distancing, imposing curfews and lockdowns – South Korea, Philippines, Italy,
Nicaragua, Senegal, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Tunisia. For South Korea specifically, they
created a telephone booth-like station where it will only take 7 minutes to analyze the sputum
and condition of the client. This booth is a form of Nonmaleficence to the people as they are
offering testing areas to accommodate the population and be able to match the increasing
population of those positive in the condition. Autonomy is another principle upheld as the
different sectors of the society, be it the private and public sectors both are working together in

promoting Justice and how they can help each other to avoid the spread of the disease, especially
to the ones who are vulnerable. The veracity of the government is the crucial factor that let these
countries to continue. Transparency of the government to their disseminated information and
allowing people to be oriented on what people are to do. These were done by showing videos,
posting infographic charts to help people practice social distancing and proper handwashing.
Overall, these countries showed continuous upholding of ethical principles to help the people and
be able to survive and address this crisis for the better. Proper information dissemination in
helping people know and understand how the disease process works and affect people is
important to break the stigma that this even has turned into.
