Read the text and answer the questions.

Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

Imagine living somewhere that is -37°C in the winter and has no sun for half of the year.
Well, Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica is just like that. Although this research
station is on one of the coldest places on Earth, it is still home to up to 70 people in the Antarctic
summer.
The station has got two floors with large, steel poles on skis under it to keep it above the ice
when it is snowy. The ice below it is 2,700m thick. Next to the station there is also a huge
observatory, a place where scientists can see stars and planets.
The station has got very good heating, a gym, a living room, and even a sauna. Outdoors
there aren’t any trees because it is too cold, but luckily there is an indoor garden in the station to
grow fresh vegetables. There are also a lot of sports and hobbies for people to try – photography
and skiing are the most popular!

1 Where is the station? ..........................................................................................................

2 How many people are there in the Antarctic summer? .......................................................
3 How many floors are there? ................................................................................................
4 Why is there an indoor garden? ..........................................................................................
5 Which sports are the most popular?....................................................................................
