but easier to use a generic one which you will establish in
procedures. ) Lesson 2: Students will begin branch weaving projects. The goal of this
lesson is to create a branch wrapping using bold colors and patterns
with materials available at home.

Assessment: Step by Step Instruction

Students will upload a photo of their work into Google Classroom for a
grade.
1. Start by choosing bold and bright colors. For this project any
glue will work. You will need a branch, yarn or embroidery
floss. If you do not have these items use tape, colored rope or
ribbon. You can also paint your branch instead! Be creative!

2. First glue down one section of yarn or embroidery floss onto

the branch.

3. Next wrap over the glued part, then move onto the next section.
Make sure to hold onto the end of your yarn to keep it from
moving as you wrap.

4. Wrap yarn tightly together, to create a tight fit. Keep yarn taunt
as you wrap.

5. Make sure to glue down the last part of the yarn on each
section of color.

6. Then Repeat with another color. Create a pattern. Make sure to

glue the end of the thread first.

7. Continue wrapping, then glue the end of that color before

moving onto the next color.

8. Continue from section to section alternating colors.

9. You can leave some small edges of the branch open to create
contrast.

2

10. Make sure you are creating a pattern as you alternate colors .

Lesson 3: Students will begin creating a loom. Goal: Students will learn
how to create a warp on their branch using materials they have
available at home.

Step by Step Instruction

1. Use the branch you used for your branch wrapping. This will
become your loom.

2. The first thing you will need to do before you weave, is create a
warp on your loom. You will need yarn, thread, or twine. If you
do not have these items use rope, fishing line or dental floss to
create your warp.

3. To start creating your warp you will need to tie off your yarn.
Start by wrapping your thread around the branch twice and
make a knot. Make sure to double knot it.

4. Next you will need to wrap your yarn around the opposite end
of the branch twice. Make sure to come over on top of the
branch with your yarn. Then make one full loop around the
branch. Then come up underneath the branch with your yarn
and make your second loop.

5. Continue looping twice around one side of the branch then

twice around the other. Move along the branch as you go.
Make sure to continue an over and under pattern. Yarn should
go over on top of the branch with your yarn on one side and
come up underneath on the other.

6. Last of all loop your yarn around your branch twice, then tie a

knot on your last yarn strand. Make sure to double knot.

Lesson 4: Students will learn how to create a plain weave using what
they have available at home. The goal of this lesson is to understand
how to create and continue a plain weave using bold colors, geometric
designs and patterns. Students will also learn how to switch out colors.

Step by Step Instruction

1. Now you are ready to create your weft. Gather your colors.
Choose bright and bold colors that coordinate together. If you
do not have yarn, then use ribbon, or colored plants for your
weft. You can also cut up old clothing. Make sure to have a
pattern or geometric shape you want to create in mind.

2. To create a plain weave loop your yarn through your needle. If

you do not have a needle use your hands.

3. Alternate in and out between one warp thread to create your

weft.

4. Make sure to pull yarn all the way through as you weave.

5. Use a fork or comb to push the weft tightly together.

6. When you end one row, start the next row opposite of how you
ended the last.

7. When switching colors cut and tie yarn together. Always tie off
yarn when done with yarn strand.

Lesson 5: Students will learn how to create a Twill weave using bold
colors, patterns, and geometric designs with materials they have
available at home. The goal of this lesson plan is to learn how to
create different textures using different weaving techniques.

Step by Step Instruction

1. The Twill weave pattern is created by going under one warp

thread and over two. This pattern creates a diagonal in your
weave.

2. As you weave make sure to pull yarn through your warp.

3. To continue your weave on the next row you must do the

opposite of how you end.You must do this while continuing that
same pattern. If you end going under the final warp strand, start
the next row going over two warp strands.

4. Continue the same weave pattern until your desired length.

5. Last as you weave make sure to push weave to a tight fit with a
fork or comb.

Lesson 6: Students will learn how to create a satin weave using bold
colors, patterns and geometric designs with materials available at
home. The goal of this lesson plan is to learn how to use different
weaving techniques to create texture within weaving.

Step by Step Instruction

1. To begin your Satin Weave you will need to use a pattern of

over four warp strands and under one.

2. Next continue the same pattern, skipping four warp strands and
picking up one.

3. Then pull your weft through and press to a tight fit with a fork or
comb.

4. The satin weave can be woven to a left or a right slant. This will
be woven at a right slant. So in the next row pick up the strand
directly to the right of each previously lifted strand.

5. Make sure to count your pattern to make sure it is correct

before going on to the next row.

6. Last repeat the last steps. Continue your next row in the same
way picking up your strand to the right of the previously lifted
strand and repeating your pattern over four under one.
Continue for desired length.

Tension to allow for interweaving of weft threads.

-Weft: Interweaving horizontal threads

-Warp: Interweaving Vertical threads. Warp threads

are attached to the loom.

Plain Weave- This is the simplest and most sturdy weaving style. The
weft threads alternate going over and under the warp threads. This
creates a sturdy fabric.

Twill Weave-This type of weave has weft threads passing over

multiple warp threads in a pattern that shifts one step to the right or left
with each row, which creates a diagonal pattern. This is the most
durable weave.

Satin Weave-Weft threads to a satin weave pass over 4 to 8 warp

threads. This creates a staggering pattern similar to the twill weave.
The longer threads exposed at the surface give this type of weave a
sheen. This type of weave isn’t as durable.
