Bulan is one of the municipalities in the province of Sorsogon.

It is a simple town consists of 63


barangays where you could find some interesting tourist destinations. (It is bounded by the
municipalities of Magallanes, Juban and Irosin, Matnog and Ticao Pass.) (DESCRIPTION)

Bulaneños have physical appearances similar to what Filipinos have. Most of them have brown skin and
flat nose. Since Bulan is part of Bicol region, Bulaneños are indeed Oragons. They are brave, strong and
able to face challenges with a smile. Values are being taught by parents and guardians, liike for example,
the use of "po" and "opo" when talking to elders and "mano" as a sign of respect. (VALUES)

The language being used by the Bulaneños are combinations of Bicol and Visayas' languages. That is why,
some of the words used in Bulan are not being used by other municipalities nearby the town. Like for
example, the words "dire", "mao" and "mapinit" of Bulan have similar meanings to "lain", "amo" and
"mapirot" respectively, by other Sorsoganons. (LANGUAGE)

Most of the occupations of the people in Bulan are fishing and farming. These are the jobs that most
Bulaneños grown up with. That is why, Bulan is truly rich from agricultural products. (They can survive
here just by getting food from crops and livestock in farms and mountains and fishes from ponds, lakes,
rivers, and seas.) "Tuyo" and "Laing" are the foods commonly eat by the Bulaneños. (FOODS AND

The festival in Bulan is called Padaraw Festival. It is being celebrated every last day of May that shows
the lives of Bulaneños. During fiestas, the people are busy entertaining guests because this kind of
celebration is important for all Bulaneños. There are several activities being performed by each barangay
during fiestas. Beauty pageant, "bayle" and carnival or "perya" in Bulan won't be excluded at this kind of

Bulan is a place whose people are God-fearing. Every Sundays of the week, most Bulaneños are
attending masses whatever religion they have. Christmas and New Year would always be celebrated.
These kinds of events are very important for them. (They will do anything just to have foods to serve and
eat during these days) It is a tradition for all the Bulaneños to celebrate these days by fireworks displays
after mass. And as a Filipino, Bulaneños, especially children, are doing carols and attending "Simbang
Gabi". (CHRISTMAS, CAROLS & SIMBANG GABI)

Alike from other Filipino beliefs, Bulaneños believe on creatures like "Tikbalang", "Kapre", "Aswang",
"Manananggal","Tiktik", "Maligno" at "Tiyanak". This belief on these creatures are being passed from
generations to generations. Aside from this, Bulaneños also believe on the ability of faith healers. Instead
of going to hospitals, parents would send their children to those faith healers. (BELIEFS)

(As part of the Philippines, Bulan is committed to uphold the constiution and obey the laws implemented
by its government.) The rules and regulations being followed by Bulaneños are just similar to other
municipalities across the nation. Like for example, the symbols and signs being used in schools and
roads. These rules and regulations should be followed by the citizens of Bulan or else there will be a
corresponding fees or imprisonment if people won't follow from it. (LAW)
Education is important for all Bulaneños. Children were taught of the importance of being an educated
person. Bulan has private and public schools from primary to tertiary education that are providing
quality education. Graduation ceremonies in schools are important for the parents. They value a lot the
importance of education, since for them, it is the only gift that they can give for their children.

○Some may said that Bulan is not as rich as other municipalities, but with the help of the advancement
in technology and proper management of people, Bulan has been growing and improving as time goes
by.

○ For Bukaneños, money is just a money, enjoyment is the most important thing. Some people may
found it as a negative habit but for most Bulaneños who are practicing this, it will never be a problem if
you would think to it positively.

○Bulan has its own beauty that anyone could appreciate. Come and enjoy the beauty of the culture of
Bulan.

○Since most of all Bulaneños are almost hooked up by technology, social media apps like Facebook,
Instagram and YouTube are being utilized. Like for every Filipinos, Bulaneños are also addicted to these
media apps and they liked to take selfie at any places.

● Parties and occassions are very special for all Bulaneños. Even most of the families in Bulan are not
rich, parents will still find ways just to make their children happy. Some parents would lend some money
just to avail karaoke and have foods like spaghetti, "lumpia", cake, ice cream and other foods and
services to have a grand celebration.

●It is already a habit of all students in Bulan to practice a dance or presentation outside the church. This
area is called "Pacho". It may be due to the large area of the field and location which is near at the
town's capital. Since barangays in Bulan are far from the capital, tricycle is the transprotation mostly
used by the citizens to get through here.

●During summer, it is already a tradition for all young boys to be circumcised. Some may go to hospitals
but most of them prefer to go to a person ("paraturi") who will do the circumsition. It is also a habit for
all Bulaneños that every summer, family should bond and have time for themselves like swimming at
Sabang Park, San Mateo Cold and Hot Spring Resort, 401K Resort, Subic Beach and other beaches in and
out of the town.

●During the 15th and 30th days of a month, there is a place in Bulan where people would buy cheap but
high quality products including shirts, pants, shoes and many more. This place is called "Saudan".
Bulaneños, especially mothers and youths are the ones who usually came and buy some "ukay-ukay".
They believe that these products have high quality of production.

●When establishments like Jollibee, 7 Eleven, Dopols and Dragon House were constructed, people
started to visit them until it became a habit for all Bulaneños to celebrate occassions at these
restaurants. It bacomes also a custom for all students to go here after class just to have bond with their
friends or loved ones.

●The surnames of most Bulaneños start with letter G. Like for example, Gepiga, Gelua, Guelas, Gillego,
Guban, Gobris, Gestiada and many more.
