What is culture? What does it include?

Do you know the culture

in your hometown? Guindulmanon, WHAT IS OUR CULTURE?
*PAS-PAS NA SLIDESHOW SA TANAN VIDEO*

Culture is a way of life of a group of people — the behaviours,

beliefs, values, practices and symbols that they accept, without
thinking about them and that are passed along by
communication and imitation from one generation to the next.
If we think about culture, we generally think of the tangible
ones. Like heritage monuments (ipa kita ang simbahan, bell
towers, ug Rizal Park), ancestral house (Baclayon), or historical
objects (bell sa simbahan) and clothing (national costume) but I
am here to present to you the other type of culture that is not
largely been talked about….. INTANGIBLE CULTURE.

I am Zenith Ynos C. Ligtas. A first-year bachelor of arts in

political science student in Holy name University.

As a student or as a teacher you have probably remembered in

school when one of the program during Filipino month was a
folkdance competition. We performed Philippine Folk Dances in
Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao and.. the Tinikling dance first
probably comes into your mind when I were to ask you to give
me a folkdance in the Visayas region, right? Yes, because that is
what is being recorded in book and known to us ever since but
did you know that in the west-eastern part of Bohol, my
hometown in Guindulman, we have an established folkdance
that we can call our own. And that is LUKSO DE GUINDULMAN.
This dates back in the American settlement in the Philippines.
The people gather in Guindulman plaza or somewhere near the
market once a week every Sunday. This gathering may also be a
form or socialization to the locals and the foreigners called
SERENATA. It is accompanied by an Arodalian band of string
instruments. The dance steps in the Serenata projected a
jumping motion throughout their dance which is the main
characteristic of Lukso de Guindulman. With the efforts of the
town’s Local Government Unit, they had taken significant steps
in order for our folkdance to be recognized and known as one
of the folkdances in the Philippines. A pride in in Bohol. A pride
in Guindulman.

In the same foreign colonization during the midst of the

Boholano cry of resistance. The ‘insurectos’ or the local
insurgents organized a resistance movement that successfully
ambushed the American troops in Kabantian Pass. (timelapse
version na ga byahi sa Cabantian). With lack of arms and
ammunition, one of best way to fight against them is the
familiarity of land. (libot nap ag ka video) Thus, they hid in the
hilltop in Cabantian (focus sa hill, sideview) and started jumping
down and killed the Americans with their bolos. (focus na sa
monument) Through the courageous and valiant acts of the
insurectos in that ambush, they were given tribute marker,
which the municipality of Guindulamn has recently renovated
and gave commemorative actions towards this site.
These kinds of culture hold a value to the Guindulmanons
because historical events play a big part in knowing and
understanding what we are today and how things come up on
what it is today. However, this is only a tiny part of the other
culture present in Guindulman. We are very proud on our
natural culture, (Landthai, coco white beach, Chuson hills)
festivals (Kalipay festival, drum and buggle), tradition and
customs (holy week) and importantly, the Filipino warmth
(Filipino genuine hug), as Pauline Amelinxhs describe to the
hospitable, genuine, and friendly gestures of Filipinos which is I
can say is pretty evident to Guindulmanons. (drone shot nag a
wave2 ang mga Guindulamons.)

If we were to travel in the heart of the Philippines, Bohol . WE have a lot to offer primarily in
the beauty of nature. We have beaches that is as magnificent as the beach in Boracay.
Landscapes na peaceful ug nice tan.awon ug naan akas hilltop.

Lazores de Guidulamn is a result on an issued school superintendent Arthuro Villafer requiring

all distrcit to conduct a research of all folk dances in all municipalities. The school dist.
Supervisor, the late Grasyano Bunado and the central school’s principal Mr. Devan assigned a
research, Karidad Peligrino, who have been teaching folk dances in. the district ot conduct a

Late Hugo Peligrino Sr. who was then member of the famous orchestra which was founded by
late alipio libres druing the American regime. Who was the conductor of the late Mayor Atty.
Nino Amora Acc to the olf folks of Guindulman, during the American, ladies and gentlemen
gather in the plaza and market once a week during Sunday to socialize w an event compose of
