Lesson Topic: Plant Transport System
Lesson Objectives:
At the end of lesson, students should have learnt the following:
1. State the function of the plant transport system
2. Identify the parts of the plant transport system

10 min Introduction
Ask students to look outside the classroom and look at the
trees. Ask class if they know what the plants need to
survive and write their responses on the board.

30 min Development 8 stalks of celery,

what they have learnt today.

2. Trace the path that the substances take as they are transported by the plant transport system.
3. List the substances that are transported by the plant transport system.

and 3 together with the class. Discuss results.

Students to be reminded that we have to be kind to plants and
that we should not pluck plants or flowers with no purpose.

Home Activity for Science
Colored Carnations!
What you need:
 A few stalks of white carnations
 Flower Vase(s)/ Jars/ Plastic cups – anything as long as they are
upright
 Food Colouring
 Water
Directions:
1. Fill your upright container ½ full of water.
2. Add 10 to 20 drops of your favourite food colouring into the
water.
3. Have an adult trim off the end of the stem at an angle and place it
in the vase. Let it sit for a day.
4. Check your flower every few hours.

Observations:
1. Examine the whole plant carefully.
2. What do the stems, leaves, buds, petals look like?
3. What parts of the plant do you see the food colour in?

Notes:
1. Be creative!
2. Bring to class if you can. Or take pictures to show your teacher
and friends! Print them out and make a poster about your project.
