General Objective: at the end of the lesson, student should be able to identify and recall

information taught in class.

Key Vocabulary: Leaf, Axil, Petiole, Blade, Midrib, Veins.

Material/ Resources:

White board, projector, leaf diagrams, computer, and speakers, leaves, pencil, diagrams.
Learning Outcomes:

 Give a short definition of the importance of the leaf to the plant

 Be able to label the leaf

Content:

Leaf, in science any usually flattened green outgrowth from the stem of a vascular plant.

As the primary sites of photosynthesis, leaves manufacture food for plants, which in turn nourish

and sustain all land animals. Leaves are an integral part of the stem system. They are attached by

a continuous vascular system to the rest of the plant so that free exchange of nutrients, water, and

end products of photosynthesis (oxygen and carbohydrates in particular) can be carried to its

various parts. Leaves are initiated in the apical bud (growing tip of a stem) along with the tissues

of the stem itself.

Procedure:

Engagement:

Students will be shown a brown paper back with diverse types of leaves, they will be

asked to guess what they think is in that paper bag. The teacher will pass the bag around and ask

students not to open it but shake it to hear the sound it makes to help them further guess what is

in the bag. After which the students finish guessing, the teacher will pour out the leaves on the

desk.

Exploration:

Students will be placed into groups of four to six students, where each group will be

given two leaves. They will be asked to describe among themselves what are the physical
features that they can see. Students who are a bit slower or who have learning challenges will be

given a leaf/ ves and will be asked to draw it. They will also be asked to describe what they see

and what makes this leaves different from the other in front of them. After students have

completed this, students will be asked to share their finding with the group and the teacher will

record it on the board.

Explanation:

Students will be asked to watch a video on the board about the various parts of the leaf.

They will be asked to pay keen attention to video on the board, where they will be asked

questions after. The teacher will distribute a blank diagram of the leaf to the class and as the

video is being played. Students will then be asked what the various parts of the leaf are as

described in the video and will be asked to fill out the diagram before them.

use it to create the content of their poems. They will be asked to share it to rest of the class and

they will be critiqued based on creativity, information and orginality.

Evaluate:

Students will be given these following questions and a diagram to answer based on their

levels.

Tier 1: Questions
1. What is the flat part of the leaf called?

2. What does the Petiole do?

3. What does the stomata do?

4. The central line in a plant is called__________

5. What is the green substance in a leaf called?

Tier 2: These students will be asked to fill out this diagram of the plant to see if the grasp the

structure of the leaf
