2. PRESENTACION
At the end of this guide apprentices will be able to: describe the current situation
Warm up: present continuous introduction – short video with scenes from different
movies/series etc.
Presentation: the teachers present the theory about the present continuous tense (affirmative,
negative, questions, short answers).
Practice: the apprentices fill out the blanks on the picture with the names of the people based on
the sentences; after that they read a conversation and complete it with the correct forms of the
verbs; the apprentices answer questions based on the photo using short answers as well as wh
questions writing complete sentences.
Production: the apprentices write what people in different countries are doing at the moment.

PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Uses of present continuous tense:
1. Now/at the moment ex. I`m not watching TV now.
2. Longer actions in progress now ex. She is studying to become a doctor.
3. Near future ex. Are you visiting your family this weekend?
4. Repetitions and irritations with always ex. They are always coming late.
Remember! There are some verbs which can not be used in any continuous tense ex. like,
hate, want, need, seem, mind, own, belong…
ex. I like this cake. I`m liking this cake.
They need help. They are needing help.
AFFIRMATIVE
SUBJECT AUXILIARY VERB ‘TO BE’ VERB + ING
I AM STUDYING NOW.
YOU/WE/THEY ARE WRITING THE EXAM.
SHE/HE/IT IS RUNNING TO CATCH THE BUS.
NEGATION
SUBJECT AUXILIARY VERB ‘TO BE’ NEGATION VERB + ING
I AM NOT WATCHING TV.
YOU/WE/THEY ARE NOT SITTING NOW.
SHE/HE/IT IS NOT LIVING IN JAPAN.

Exception If the base verb ends in consonant + stressed vowel + consonant, double the last
letter:
s t o p
vowels = a, e, i, o, u
stop → stopping
begin → beginning
Note that this exception does not apply when the last syllable of the base verb is not
stressed:
open → opening
lie → lying
die → dying
come → coming
write → writing

Complete the dialog with the correct forms of the verbs in the present continuous tense.
Based on the example, write what people in different countries are/are not doing right now. You
can also base on the photo.
Answer the questions based on the picture using short answers. In case your answer is negative
write what the person is doing. Afterwards answer the wh-questions with complete sentences.
