History of South City Homes Academy
South City Homes Academy (SCHA), a private non-sectarian institution within one of the fully developed
subdivisions in the newly created City of Biñan in the province of Laguna, sustains its full swing of
development as it consistently grows in population.
Its humble beginning was inspired by a desire to serve the youths in their continuing quest for quality
basic education. A group of accomplished academicians and school managers, two of them were former
Biñan District Supervisors while others were formers Elementary School Principals, decided to put up
South City Homes School (SCHS) in 1984. Its door was opened initially to 42 preschoolers under the care
of two competent teachers. They were housed in fairly sized 2 single story abode. Since then, SCHS has
grown gradually until it has transformed into a more conductive place for nurturing kids’ minds.
The former preschool became a complete elementary school in span of five years. It was school year
1987-1988 when the first graduation for elementary level was held with eighteen (18) graduates. To
meet the needs of its growing population, SCHS continued to provide the needed facilities, manpower
and resources. The former 2-room houses were upgraded into a two storey building with 12 rooms. It
was also during this period when the school’s name South City Homes School was changed to South City
Homes Academy (SCHA). In its fourteen year of operation, SCHA became the recipient of a Certificate of
Recognition from the National Elementary Assessment Test. This said feat was only one of the
meritorous achievements the school and its pupils would be very proud of.
In response to parents’ clamor, SCHA started to offer the first and second year levels for the secondary
course in school year 1996-1997. Subsequently, another building with 15 rooms was constructed to
augment the requirements for the high school students. In 1998, the high school pioneering batch was
composed of only 27 graduates. Since then its enrolment inflates by approximately eight times, thus
having an average of 160 graduates per school year. This growth practically calls for irresistible change,
necessitating the body of incorporators to seriously considering the creation of a new site exclusively for
the high school students and causing more enrollees to come.
In school year 2001-2002, a newly built 16-room 3 storey building was started to be occupied by ever
growing enrollees of the school. A science laboratory as well as a computer room was added in 2002,
and the following year after, the construction of the multi-purpose hall with an estimated floor area of
400 square meters was completed. This magnificently designed structure serves as a venue for the
school’s affairs and activities like graduation exercises, conference, JS prom, school programs and sports
events. A simple school canteen was built to accommodate the majority of students in 2004. Two years
after, a new two-storey building was constructed with a concrete and more improved SCHA cafeteria at
the ground floor and 4 classrooms at the second floor. A provision was also prepared for the
construction of an air-conditioned conference hall at the third floor, which was completed in 2007. Thus,
SCHA has already 18 functional classrooms in the high school campus alone.
When the Education Voucher System was introduced in 2006, SCHA was immediately qualified as a
school recipient. In January 2009, a team of certifiers from the Department of Education (DepEd) and
Financial Assistance for Private Education (FAPE) visited SCHA. After the visit the SCHA had been given
certification to participate in the Education Service Contracting (ESC), a program which gives financial
assistance to private school students starting school year 2009-2010. Additional ESC slots granted to
SCHA every school year.
Figuring out the call for total development, SCHA has continued to improve its facilities and equipments.
In December 2010, a new 3 storey building was started to build. This serves as the TLE laboratory, and
additional classrooms. This improvement is completed in view of meeting and surpassing the minimum
standards for operation of the Department of Education.
The school administrators and stockholders have also been improving and upgrading the qualifications
of the faculty staff through advanced studies, conferences, workshops, and seminars. The curriculum,
always anchored on the Department of Education, has been applied, monitored and evaluated regularly.
Thus, the achievement of its student rightfully testifies to the quality of education it offers. The
institution’s education goals and objectives are satisfactorily attained up to date as manifested through
performance indicators on file.
SCHA so dedicated in achieving more quality education, is looking forward to further developments and
expansions in the near future developments and expansions in the near future in the areas of facilities
and curriculum standards. The academy still continues to affirm its strengthened commitment to the
people, especially the youths. It is considered one of the prime movers for the academe, not just in the
immediate neighbourhood of South City Homes Subdivision but in the other locales as well.
Through the years, the institution has indeed transformed itself into a significant center of excellent
education for the young generation. At present, it is a dependable partner of the society in building
community of pupils and students who are properly geared up for the demands of the new millennium.
