Technical Details
(1) Description of problem

 We all know that there are many tools and machines

available in the market for the cleaning of roads, garden,
small areas, etc. but there are some limitations in the
machines like ground clearance, fuel consumption, suction
problems, etc.

 The cleaning vehicles which are already in use are not

capable of cleaning(sucking) the waste materials from a small
distance from the ground. The mechanism is closely
arranged to the ground. Due to this, the vehicle finds it
difficult to cross any speed breaker or any uneven surface.
This may damage the parts close to the ground.

 The vehicles available in the market are run by fuels like

petrol or diesel. This increases the fuel consumption and also
pollutes the air and the surroundings. Our main moto is to
make our area clean. So if we are cleaning our ground areas
and polluting the air surroundings ‘That doesn’t make a
sense’.

 Some cleaning machines are operated by ‘Man power’ to

move the machine while some are operated by ‘engines’. In
both the cases, the mechanism in the machine uses some
energy to clean the wastes.
A D PATEL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (ADIT)- KARAMSAD
STUDENT STARTUP AND INNOVATION POLICY (SSIP)

 So, if we talk about the machines operated by man

power, then it consumes a large amount of time and the
wages are to be given to the workers as per the time of
work.

 On the other hand, if we talk about the engine based

machines which work on fuel then the cost of fuel is
increasing day by day. Sometimes it becomes
unaffordable to use fuels. In a country like India where
the fuels are very costly, sometimes it can create
problems for not cleaning the areas as per the routine.
Also, the overall cost of cleaning at a time increases.

Therefore, we have to find an alternative to save both man

power and fuels. This indirectly decreases the cost of
cleaning an area at a time.

(2) Rationale for taking up the project

 This electric garbage collactor is Eco-Friendly and is best
suited equipment for outdoor locations. It enables quick-
response cleaning especially in areas which are difficult to
clean by the traditional mechanical sweepers.
 As government is encouraging the Swach Bharat Abhiyan.
 And also encouraging the use of renewable energy resources,
and innovation in this field is lagging.

(3) Relevance to State Priorities

 Eco friendly
 Less man power compared to the traditional mechanical
sweepers
 Cheeper for cleaning areas at a time compared to other
machines
 Good ground clearance

(4) Challenges & constraints

 Suck the garbage from some distance to the ground
 Availability of the specific components required
 Affordable price
 Large capacity battery to run both the vehicle and the
machine
 Design of the mechanism to be installed

Description of proposal
1) Objectives
 To catch up the limitations which are occurring currently for
the cleaning of large areas.
 One step for Clean India Mission
 Awareness for the use electric vehicle
 Specially designed for rough surfaces and for the ease in
crossing speed breakers

2) Literature survey/ Similar startup or innovation in the chosen

field

1. Research Paper: Design and fabrication of Mini DC Vaccum

Cleaner

This project has been studied the axial fan used in the vacuum
cleaner. In this project, axial fan is designed for 0.9 W vacuum
cleaners. The pressure difference across the fan is calculated by
using slip steam theory. After the calculations, the pressure difference
across the fan is 6.56. The efficiency of the machine is 42%. The
biggest challenges of this project were to create vacuum inside the
container for suction and the proper designing and choosing the
blade material. Creating vacuum was overcome by inserting a V-
shaped cone at the suction and making holes at the other end for the
air coming from the filter to exit. The spacing between blade and the
container had become a major consideration in creating vacuum. For
the blade material, mild steel is chosen so that it can withstand the air
drag force and shaft centrifugal forces. Designing of the blade is done
with Auto Cad software. By carrying out this project, the blade design
is the critical factor for the good efficiency of vacuum cleaners was
known. The lack of precision in blade design had made the project
equipment to have lower efficiency.

2. Design and Application of D.C. Vacuum Cleaner using Axial Flow

Fan:

The developed vacuum cleaner has wheels and can be moved

from one position to desired position manually, by applying push
force to move it. It has a handle to steer the vacuum cleaner. With
regard of references taken into consideration the developed
vacuum cleaner works satisfactorily. The developed vacuum
cleaner generates the suction pressure of 17 KPa and this

generated suction pressure is within the range of suction pressure

of the available vacuum cleaners according to our research and
analysis.
