3. ABSTRACT

The water tank cleaning machine is an innovative device designed to automate and
optimize the cleaning process of water storage tanks, ensuring hygienic water supply.
The system integrates a combination of mechanical scrubbing, high-pressure water
jets, and automated control technologies to thoroughly clean the internal surfaces of
water tanks, removing sediment, biofilm, and microbial contaminants.

The machine consists of a rotating arm equipped with specialized hollow brushes
capable of reaching all tank surfaces, including hard-to-access corners. A high-
pressure pump delivers water through the hollow pump, providing an effective means
of dislodging and flushing out debris. The device is controlled via a user-friendly
interface that allows operators to set cleaning parameters such as duration, pressure,
and brush speed.

Designed for residential applications, the water tank cleaning machine significantly
reduces the time and labor involved in manual cleaning methods. It also enhances
safety by minimizing human exposure to potentially hazardous contaminants.
Additionally, the automated system ensures a consistent and thorough cleaning
process, thereby maintaining water quality and prolonging the lifespan of water
storage tanks.

4. INTRODUCTION
The water tank cleaning machine addresses a critical need for maintaining the cleanliness

and hygiene of water storage systems. Water tanks, whether used in residential,

commercial, or industrial settings, are prone to accumulating sediment, biofilm, and

microbial contaminants over time. These impurities can compromise water quality, posing

health risks and reducing the efficiency of water systems.Traditional cleaning methods are

often labor-intensive, time-consuming, and may not effectively reach all areas within a

tank. Manual cleaning also exposes workers to potential health hazards from

contaminants. In contrast, the water tank cleaning machine offers a comprehensive and

efficient solution to these challenges. This automated device features a rotating arm

equipped with specialized brushes and high-pressure water jets, ensuring thorough

cleaning of all internal surfaces, including difficult-to-access corners. The machine's

technology effectively dislodge and flush out accumulated debris, while the automated

controls allow operators to customize cleaning parameters for optimal results.By

significantly reducing cleaning time and labor, the water tank cleaning machine enhances

operational efficiency. Its consistent and thorough cleaning process ensures better water

quality, reduces health risks, and extends the lifespan of water storage tanks. This

innovative solution is essential for maintaining high standards of water hygiene and safety,

making it an indispensable tool in modern water management practices.

5.Calculations / Engineering Principles
Mechanical Principles

1. Hydraulic Principles:
● Fluid Dynamics: Understanding the behavior of water under pressure to design effective
high-pressure jets.
● Bernoulli’s Principle: Applied to ensure the optimal design of nozzles for maximum
cleaning efficiency.
2. Mechanical Motion and Kinematics:
● Rotational Motion: The rotating arm and brushes require precise control over rotational
speed and torque.
● Gearing and Transmission: Using gears to achieve the desired rotation speed and torque
for the brushes and arm.
3. Material Science:
● Brush Material: Selection of materials that are durable, non-corrosive, and effective in
scrubbing without damaging the tank surfaces.
● Structural Integrity: Ensuring that the arm and other components can withstand the
operational stresses and pressures.
4. Control Systems:
● Automation: Implementation of automated control systems to manage the operation
parameters such as pressure, speed, and duration.
5. Safety and Ergonomics:
● Design Considerations: Ensuring the machine is safe to operate, easy to install, and
maintain, reducing risks associated with manual cleaning.

7
● Calculations

1. Flow Rate Calculation:

Flow Rate (Q): The volume of water delivered by the jets per unit time.
Formula: 𝑄=𝐴×𝑣
Where;
Q is the flow rate,
A is the cross-sectional area of the nozzle, and
v is the velocity of water.
Example: If the nozzle area is 0.001 m² and the velocity of water is 10 m/s, then the flow rate
Q = 0.001 m² * 10 m/s = 0.01 m³/s.

2. Rotational Speed of the Brushes:

Speed (N): The number of revolutions per minute (RPM) needed to achieve effective scrubbing.
Formula: 𝑁=𝑉𝐶
Where
N is the rotational speed,
V is the linear velocity of the brush tips, and
C is the circumference of the brush.
Example: If the linear velocity required is 2 m/s and the brush diameter is 0.5 m, then the circumference
C = π * 0.5 m ≈ 1.57 m. Therefore,

N = 2 m/s / 1.57 m ≈ 1.27 RPS (Revolutions Per Second) or ≈ 76 RPM.

3. Torque Calculation for the Rotating Arm:

Torque (τ): The force needed to rotate the arm with brushes and water jets.
Formula : τ=F×r
Where
τ is the torque,
F is the force applied by the brushes, and
r is the radius (distance from the pivot to the point of force application).
Example: If the force required is 50 N and the radius is 0.5 m, then the torque
τ = 50 N * 0.5 m = 25 Nm (Newton-meters).

8. WORKING PRINCIPLE
1. Mechanical Scrubbing:
● Rotating Arm: The machine is equipped with a rotating arm that extends into the
tank. This arm is designed to move in multiple directions, ensuring it can reach all areas of
the tank, including corners and the bottom surface.
● Brushes: Attached to the rotating arm are brushes made of durable materials suitable
for scrubbing away dirt, sediment, and biofilm from the tank walls and floor. The
brushes rotate and scrub the surfaces as the arm moves.
2. High-Pressure Water Jets:
● Nozzles: The rotating arm also features multiple nozzles that emit high-pressure water
jets. These jets are directed at the tank surfaces to dislodge and flush out accumulated
debris and contaminants.
● High-Pressure Pump: A high-pressure pump provides the necessary force for the water
jets. The pump ensures that the water is delivered at a sufficient pressure to effectively
clean the tank surfaces without damaging them.
3. Automated Control System:
● Control Interface: The machine is equipped with a user-friendly control interface that
allows operators to set cleaning parameters such as the duration of cleaning, the speed
of the rotating arm, and the pressure of the water jets.
● Sensors and Feedback: Sensors monitor the cleaning process, providing real-time
feedback to the control system. This ensures that the cleaning is thorough and can
adjust operations if needed.
4. Waste Water Management:
● Collection System: The dislodged debris and dirty water are collected and drained out
of the tank through a waste water management system. This system ensures that
contaminants are safely removed from the tank and disposed of appropriately.
