A. Preparation
a. Review

Before we proceed to our next lesson this

afternoon, what was our topic last meeting? Yes
Flores? Our topic was all about Energy Transformation.

Very good! It’s all about the Energy Energy Transformation is the change of energy
Transformation. from one form to another.
Now, what is an energy transformation? Yes
Billy?
Very good! Energy transformation class is the
change of energy from one form to another. Now,
who can give me examples of an energy A lighted bulb Ma’am. From electrical energy it will
transformation? Yes Hortilano? transform to light and heat energy.

Very good! Another example. In a plugged television Ma’am, electrical energy is

being transformed to radiant, heat and sound energy.
Very good! Do you have any questions on our
previous discussion class? None Ma’am!

b. Motivation
This morning before we start our lesson, let’s
watch a video presentation first. But before that, I
want you to listen and watch it attentively because
afterwards I will be going to ask you a question.
Yes Ma’am!
Am I clear class?

(Video presentation)
Now class, what source of energy is used in the
hydropower dam?
Water Ma’am.
Very good! It’s the water, so from the word itself
“hydro” meaning water.

*Values Integration
Is water important class? Why?

Very good! Water has a lot of uses. It can be used It can be used for drinking, cleaning our clothes, used
for drinking, for digestion, for cleaning our clothes in watering the plants and etc.
and etc.

But do you know class that water also is used to

generate electricity? No Ma’am.

B. Presentation

If that is the case, be with me this afternoon as we

discuss the “Energy Transformation in a
Hydropower Dam”. Everybody read.

“ Energy Transformation in a Hydropower

Discussion Dam”
This morning class, we will watch a video. But
in watching the video, I want you to watch it
attentively because I prepared questions for you to
answer after watching the video. Is that clear
class? Now here are the following questions:
1. What are the main parts of a
hydropower dam?
2. What source of energy is used
in a hydropower plant?
3. What energy transformation
occurs in a hydropower dam?

(Video presentation)

Now class, based on the video you have watched,

what is a hydropower? Any idea?
Very good! A hydropower is a power that is Hydropower is a type of power that uses water.
generated from moving water such as rivers.
Hydropower class is a renewable energy source.
What do you mean by renewable energy? Yes Renewable energy are those energy that can be
Pilar? restored/ replaced by natural processes.

That is right. Renewable energy are those energy

that can be replenished.

In hydropower dam plant class, it uses water from

dams/ rivers in order to generate electricity. It
doesn’t use limited resources like coal or gasoline
to generate electricity. But how does the
hydropower dam generate electricity?

So, back to the video you have watched awhile

ago class, what are the 3 main parts of a typical The 3 main parts of a hydroelectric power plant are
hydroelectric power plant? the water reservoir, dam and the power plant.

Very good!
The falling or flowing of water from big river
class has a lot of energy. Now, what type of
energy does stored water possessed based on the
video?
Potential energy.
The stored water in the reservoir class possessed a
potential energy. The potential energy will be then
converted to what type of energy?
It will be converted to kinetic energy Ma’am.
Very good! The potential energy in a stored water
class is converted to kinetic energy. Now, what
form of kinetic energy is it? Motion energy Ma’am.
It’s the motion energy.

The water will now flow down to a large pipe.

What do you call the large pipe that water is used
to flow? Penstock.
Okay, it’s the penstock.
The power of the rushing water class, will then
spin the turbine blade which in turn spins the coil
of wire inside a ring of magnets, thus generating
electricity. As long as the water is flowing, the
generator will be able to provide electricity that
can be used in our homes.
Do you get It class?
Any questions or clarifications? Yes Ma’am.
None Ma’am.
C. Discussion/ Generalization

Now class, since you don’t have any question

regarding on the topic we had today, then I will be
the one who will ask a question. What are the 3
Dam, water reservoir, power plant (generators and
main parts of a hydropower plant?
turbines)
Very good! Now, how does water generates Hydropower plants use a dam on a river to
electricity in a hydropower plant? store water in a reservoir. Water released from the
reservoir flows through a turbine, spinning it, which
in turn activates a generator to produce electricity.
Very good! Do you have any questions based on
our lesson this morning class? None Ma’am.
D. Application
This time class, we will have an activity. I want
you to find a partner. After finding a partner, find
atleast three advantages and disadvantages of a
hydropower plant. After that, I will randomly
select 5 pairs to share their answers in front. I will
give you 4 minutes to do the activity. Am I clear
class? Yes Ma’am.
Time starts now.

(students do as told)

IV. Evaluation
Draw and label a typical hydropower plant.

V. Assignment:
What are the types of processes. Give atleast 3 examples for each type.
