I. Objective
At the end of 60 minutes discussion, at least 70% of the students will be able to
conceptualize the law of conservation of energy and how mechanical energy is conserved.
Materials:
visual materials for the discussion
strips of papers with words for the motivation
tape
marker or chalk
B. Motivation
After 5 minutes.
Please read the statements you’ve The total energy of an isolated system is
constructed. constant. Energy is neither created nor
destroyed, it can only be transformed from
one form to another or transferred from one
system to another.
Very good students. You may go to
your seats and arrange your chairs
properly.
C. Discussion
Exactly.
Conservation of energy is
completely different from energy
conservation.
Let’s have a short recap of different (students’ are raising their hands)
energy changing forms. Who can
give an example? Students responses:
- In televisions, the energy changes
(the teachers calls different from electrical energy to sound,
students) light and heat energy.
- In electric fan, the energy is from
electrical to mechanical energy.
- In cars, energy transformed from
chemical energy to mechanical
energy then to kinetic energy.
- When a moving car hits a parked
car and causes the parked car to
move, energy is transferred from
the moving car to the parked car.
- An electric heater transformed
electrical energy to heat energy.
KE = PE
½ mvi2 + mghi = ½ mvf2 + mghf
D. Application
V. Assignment
1. Prepare and bring your calculator next meeting.
2. Solve the following problem. Write your answer on your notebook.
A 25.0 kg object falling towards earth has a velocity of 8.5m/s when it is 100 m above the
ground. What will be its velocity when it is 20m above the ground?
