Quarter 3 – Module 5:
Week 5: Transformation of Energy
Dear Teachers and Learners, the writers humbly welcome you all to this
Science 6 Third Quarter Self-Learning Module. This material guides you to learn on how
the energy is being transformed from one form to another.
As stewards of learning, we fervently hope that this simple material would inspire
you to learn and can make you enjoy while learning from this at home. Remember,
learning by doing this challenge with a heart, is what matters most.
So, here are some few reminders for you to follow in using this learning module:
1. Take your time to read every detail that this module contains.
2. This Module contains Lesson 1, 2 and 3 of which each lesson is provided with
activities/tests that will surely lead you to learn and enjoy.
3. Please be reminded to follow the directions and procedures given in every Activity
from Lesson 1 up to Lesson 3 so that your experience in using this module will be
meaningful and successful.
4. You have to answer all the tests in this module. There are Answer Keys provided
for all the tests made from Lesson 1 to Lesson 3 which can be found at the last
page for every lesson. However, make sure to do the Activity first before checking
your answers based on the given Answer Key. The goal is to make sure that you
work for this material honestly so that your work and effort will be rewarding and
learning will possibly takes place although you work in this at home.
5. Take note of this very important reminder: PLEASEDO NOT WRITE ANYTHING
ON ANY PART OF THIS MODULE. Write your answers on your Activity Notebook
or on a separate sheet of paper as specified in the direction for every Activity.
6. Finally, may this module will bridge the physical spaces between teachers and
learners and would facilitate meaningful learning among learners studying from
home.

Transformation of Energy
1
You have learned that energy is the ability to do work, such as the capacity to move an object
(of a given mass) in a given direction by the application of force. Energy exists in a variety of
forms, such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, thermal and nuclear.
The world population relies heavily on energy of all forms. Energy appears in different
forms: heat light, sound and electricity. It can flow from one place to another and can be
transformed from one form to another. Every day of your life, you experience multiple energy
transformations. For everything, energy transformation is always involved.
What I Know
Pre-Test: Multiple Choices
Direction: Fill in the blanks with correct answer. Write your answer on your journal or
answer sheets.
1. Energy transformation or energy conversion is the process of .
A. Changing of energy from one form to another.
B. Changing of energy to heat energy alone.
C. Changing of energy to thermal energy alone.
D. Changing of energy into different sizes.
2. Energy transformation also occurs in some objects that we use. When you lighted a
candle, the chemical energy of the candle is changed into .
A. heat and light energy C. nuclear energy
B. mechanical energy D. sound energy
3. As our body perform processes like digestion, respiration, and circulation. Our
processes are powered by chemical energy stored in our body, which is then
transformed into .
A. heat energy C. mechanical energy
B. light energy D. sound energy
4. Energy transformation starts when energy strikes the earth’s surface
of which some of this energy is transformed by photosynthesis into chemical energy
stored in the carbohydrate molecules of the plant.
A. heat energy C. mechanical energy
B. radiant energy D. sound energy

5. When you switched on a flashlight, the chemical energy stored in batteries is
converted into .
A. chemical energy C. mechanical energy
B. light energy D. sound energy
What’s In
Just Think Of It!
The world population relies heavily on energy of all forms. Energy appears in different
forms: heat light, sound and electricity. It can flow from one place to another and can be
transformed from one form to another. Every day of your life, you experience multiple energy
transformations. For everything, energy transformation is always involved.
What’s New
Fill in the blanks below. Write your answer in your journal or activity notebook.

What Is It

When light energy strikes the earth’s surface, the energy transform into heat energy
which helps to dry wet clothes. Farmers needs heat energy to dry up palay grains and corn.
Plants also need radiant energy which is transformed in the process of photosynthesis into
chemical energy stored in carbohydrate molecules in plants. Plants cannot survive without
radiant or light energy.
Mechanical energy also transformed from one location to another. When you plucked
a musical instrument with strings like guitar, or ukulele, the strings vibrate and the sound is
produced. The mechanical energy from the strings that vibrate is transformed into sound
energy.
Energy transformation also occurs in home appliances that we commonly used at home
like washing machine, television, rice cooker and radio. These appliances used electrical
energy. When you turn on the computer, it uses electrical energy, and projects images and
sounds, thus it produced light and sound energy. In the kitchen, your mother uses rice cooker
to cooked rice grains. When you plugged the rice cooker, it uses electrical energy, the rice
cooker produce heat energy which helps to cook the rice. The electrical energy is then
transformed into heat energy.
Electrical energy can also transform into mechanical energy. Washing machine is one
example. When you plugged the washing machine, the spinner spins and washes our dirty
clothes.
It is also similar to your battery operated toy car. Your toy car works because of the
battery in it. As you turn on your toy car, the chemical energy causes the machine to move.
This chemical energy is changed or transformed into mechanical energy.
Energy Transformation is an important part in our daily lives. Our body needs food to
provide nutrients. The nutrients provide energy to fuel up our body so that we can able to do
the daily activities. The nutrients that is stored from the food that we eat turns into chemical
energy. As our body perform processes like digestion, respiration, and circulation. Our
processes are powered by chemical energy stored in our body, which is then transformed into
mechanical energy.
In going to school or going to work, we use motorcycles, cars, and other mode of
transportation to get in place in just a few minutes. These transportations are powered by
diesel or gasoline. The chemical energy is transformed into mechanical energy. Energy
transformation helps our work to become easier and faster

Activity 3: Share Your Thoughts!
Use the KW L chart. In the K column, write what you know about energy
transformation. For W column, write what you want to know about the importance of
transformation of energy, and for L column this will be answered in the later part of the
lesson. Write your answers on a separate sheet or your journal.
