Materials
 Whiteboards
 Markers
 Erasers
 Multiplication table
 Pencils
 Mastery Measure
Setting
 Small office next to Mrs. S’s classroom
Lesson Objective
When given three two-digit by two-digit multiplication problems without regrouping the students
will solve them using the 6 step strategy, with 100% accuracy.
Schedule/Instructional Strategies
Time Activity
9:15-9:20 Pick students up from each classroom (Mrs. S and Mrs. T)
9:20-9:25 Welcome students!
 Ask: How was their morning? How was their weekend?
Go over behavior expectations
 Remember today we are going to be successful students. That means we
are going to follow along, take notes, ask questions.
Review previous lesson
 Have students solve a 2-digit by 1-digit problem with grouping on their
whiteboards (36 x 8 =)
Go over new learning target
 I will solve 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems without regrouping
using the 6 steps strategy.
9:25-9:35 Read over the steps and have the students read them with you.
1. Multiply ones by ones
2. Multiply ones by tens
3. Insert place holder
4. Multiply tens by ones
5. Multiply tens by tens
6. Find the sum
Model to the students:
 Demonstrate the 6 steps with the problem 34 x 12 =. Verbally say each
step in the problem as you complete them. Have students follow along with
you on their whiteboards.
o After each step or every other do a checks for understanding with
the students. This could be a thumbs up if you have this on your
board or on a scale of 1-5 how do you feel about the steps we have
gone through so far.
Complete a problem together:
 Have students erase their boards and writing the new problem (24 x 12 =)
 Solve the problem together, call on students to read a step of the strategy
and then complete it. Alternate calling on students so each can have some
practice.
 Once the problem is solved, have the students show you their boards so
you know that everyone has the correct answer and followed each step.
Let them try it independently:
 Write the third and final problem on the board ( 41 x 12 =)
 Have students write this on the board and solve it independently. Once
they have it completed have them hold their boards to their chest so no one
can see it. When everyone is done, have them show you their answers.
 If anyone got it right move on to the mastery measure also known as the
“Exit Ticket.”
 If a mistake was made, go over the problem together. Highlighting each
step.
9:35-9:40 Exit ticket
 Hand out the exit ticket to each student.
 Remind students to check off each step as they complete them.
 When they are done, collect the exit ticket and let them draw on the
whiteboards until everyone is done.
9:40-9:45 Have students pass in all the materials
Revisit the learning target
 Ask: What did we do today? What did we learn? Rate yourself 1-5 on how
you feel about this strategy.

Mastery Measure/Data Collection Sheet

Below is the mastery measure or exit ticket. It is to be given to each student after the lesson. The
students will complete three problems and check off each step as they complete it. Once the
students turn in their exit ticket. Mark off on the data collection sheet with a “check” or an “x” if
they completed each step. You will know if they did if you see an “x,” “check,” or some other
mark by each box on 6 step strategy checklist. Each student’s data should be recorded on their
own data sheet with the name and date.
