Specification 2002-01

Class: Plastics Class No.:25

WABCO Thermoplastic Polymer on the Basis of

Polyphenylenesulphide (PPS), filled with Glass Fibers and JED
Mineral 682
Prev. Edition Abbreviated Title
2001-10 PPS, glass, mineral 852 006 820 4

1 Scope
This specification deals with polymeric materials with good mechanical properties for application at
higher temperatures.

There are the following types:

JED-682-0 with 65 % glass fibers and mineral, for parts that are not exposed to the outside
atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the drawing);

JED-682-1 with 65 % glass fibers and mineral, for parts that are exposed to the outside atmosphere,
UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-682-2 with 40 % glass fibers and 25 % mineral, for parts that are not exposed to the outside
atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the drawing);

JED-682-3 with 40 % glass fibers and 25 % mineral, for parts that are exposed to the outside
atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black;

JED-682-4 with 40 % glass fibers and 10% PTFE, for parts with reduced friction and wear that are
not exposed to the outside atmosphere, colour natural (if not indicated on the drawing);

JED-682-5 with 40 % glass fibers and 10% PTFE, for parts with reduced friction and wear that are
exposed to the outside atmosphere, UV-resistant, colour black.

If JED-682 is indicated on the drawing, JED-682-0 shall be applied.

2 General requirements
The finished parts shall be homogeneous and free from pores, blisters, and other defects. The parts
must not show any defects such as cracks, voids etc. within their structure.

The requirements for finished parts can be taken from the drawing, the corresponding part specification
and the technical conditions of delivery JED-367 established by WABCO.

All materials, even ingredients in small quantities (e. g. cadmium), which are detrimental to health or to
the environment are banned from being used.

3 Thermal range of application

Continuous operational temperature range: -40 °C to +200 °C

Short-term exposure to heat: 1h at +250 °C

4 Physical properties
The nominal values given on the following sheets are to be determined according to the test methods
specified.

5 Initial sampling
At new presentation of a material according to this specification, its technical data must be indicated
(range and mean values according to ISO 2602).

20 test samples (type 1, ISO 527) have to be made available. Whenever possible, these test samples
should be produced by injection moulding into a tool of the appropriate shape.

The supplier guarantees the customer the indicated technical data for all deliveries according to this
specification.

6 Release of a material
After positive result of the test sample inspection, finished parts are ordered extra for the validation
tests (life tests). The release – which only refers to parts coming from this particular mould – is made in
case of positive result of these tests.

Any modification of the material, of its ingredients or of the manufacturing process parameters of
material or finished parts – no matter of which kind or for which reason – is only permissible after
previous release by the department which is responsible for the technical design.

7 Conditions of delivery
The material and the finished parts must correspond to the technical conditions of delivery specified in
JED-367.
