1.0 PURPOSE

The purpose of this specification is to document Product Engineering’s requirements for the specified
nylon material generally used in automotive and commercial applications under continuous temperature
exposure up to 120°C, with intermittent exposure up to 150°C.

2.0 SCOPE
The material covered by this specification is a Nylon 6, natural, nominal 30% glass fiber reinforced, heat
stabilized, pellet form, injection molding compound.

3.0 DEFINITIONS

4.0 REQUIREMENTS

4.01 Material and molded specimens for tests are to be dry, with maximum moisture content of 0.2%.
Material may be dried before molding into test specimens.

4.02 Material supplied to this specification must be equivalent to that originally approved, and must be
so certified. No changes in formulation or are to be made without prior approval from BorgWarner
Thermal Systems Product Engineering.

4.03 Material Properties:

5.0 APPROVAL OF SUPPLIERS

5.01 Material submitted by new suppliers to this specification must be


approved by Product Engineering. New suppliers must submit
material property process capability data to achieve certification.
Sampling plan to be approved by BorgWarner Product
Engineering.

5.02 The supplier will forfeit qualification if a change is made in material


processing methods, testing methods, location of a manufacture, or any other
change that may affect the quality of molded products, without
prior written approval from BorgWarner Engineering.

5.03 Production lot material Certificate of Compliance to include test results for moisture
content, filler content (ash), viscosity, tensile strength, flexural modulus, heat deflection
temperature (DTUL), specific gravity, and Izod impact.
