I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 50-minute discussion, the students should be able to:
Differentiate Direct and Indirect speech;
Use direct and indirect speech in conversing with people; and
state the importance of words and meanings

A. Preliminary Activities

B. Drill
The class will be divided in to two; each group will have to choose an animal
sound to act as buzzers when they try to guess the correct letter that
corresponds to the question or clue given. The group who has more number
of correct answers will be the winner.

What letter is a big body of water? C What letter is an expression? O
What letter is a part of the body? I What letter is another word for falling in
line? Q
C. Motivation
The students will watch a movie scene from “One More Chance”.
- What kind of presentation did you watch?
- What did you notice in the movie scene?
- How did they exchange information?
- What did John Loyd or Popoy told Bea Alonzo or Basha?
- The lesson objectives will be presented to students.
D. Lesson Proper
- You can answer the question ‘What did he say?’ in two ways:
- by repeating the words spoken (direct or quoted speech)
- by reporting the words spoken (indirect or reported speech)
- What is Direct speech? Indirect speech?
- Prezi Presentation will be shown
- Direct Speech: the exact words someone says set within quotation
marks. Also called Quoted Speech
- Example/s: “She loved me at my worst. You had me at my best.”
“And you chose to break my heart” – Popoy
- Indirect Speech: the reporting of what someone has said, not using his
or her exact words. Also called Reported Speech
- Example: Popoy said that Trisha had him at his worst and Basha had
him at his best.
Popoy said that Basha chose to break his heart.
- What was removed when converting direct speech to indirect speech?
- What did you notice in the pronoun?
- How is it changed?
- Another example: She said “I am tired” – direct speech
She said that she was tired – reported speech
E. Application
The class will be divided in to two; each group will have five representatives
that will have to transform five direct speeches to indirect speeches. The first
group who finishes with more number of correct answers will be the winner.
1. Kate said, “I don’t like seafood.”
2. Taylor said, “I’m going to New York.”
3. Louie asked, “Has Adrian arrived?”
4. The boy said, “My name is John.”
5. Doris said, “I will meet Sandy at the station.”

- What do we remove in transforming direct to indirect speech?

V. ASSIGNMENT
- Directions: Make/Draw a comic strip conversation and must include two
direct and two indirect speeches as dialogues. Work should be done
in long bond paper.

Caption - 40 %
Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar - 35%
Creativity - 25%
