Jarrett busts out for four RBIs in nightcap
SALISBURY, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds split a series-opening doubleheader with the Hagerstown Suns on
Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, dropping the opener 4-2 in eight innings and exacting revenge in the
nightcap, 11-4.

Game One

With the game tied 2-2 after seven, Nick Banks began the eighth as the Suns’ free runner. Yasel Antuna led off with
a grounder to short, and Branden Becker overthrew to third to get Banks, sailing the ball into the dugout to score
Banks and advance Antuna to second. Two batters later, Jeyner Baez singled home Antuna to put the Suns up 4-2.
Will Robertson started off the home half of the inning at second base as the free runner but got no further than
third.

Phil Morse (1-0) got the win for the relief for the Suns, going three scoreless innings and striking out two. Alex Katz
(3-2) suffered the loss for the Shorebirds, allowing two unearned runs in 3.1 innings.

Cole Freeman walked to start off the ballgame and advanced to second on a Luis Garcia groundout. Aldrem Corre-
dor followed with an RBI single to put Hagerstown in front early 1-0.

Starters Matthias Dietz and Kyle Johnston traded scoreless frames up until the fifth when Hagerstown struck again.
Freeman led off with a walk, quickly stole second base, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Garcia then belted a
sac-fly into center to score Freeman to extend the Hagerstown lead to 2-0.

In Delmarva’s fifth, Ben Breazeale led off with a single, followed by a Robertson walk to put men on first and sec-
ond. Kirvin Moesquit grounded into a fielder’s choice, putting Breazeale on third. With Moesquit trying to steal
second base, Baez threw a ball into center, which allowed Breazeale to score. While trying to throw Moesquit
out at third, Armond Upshaw airmailed the throw into the Shorebirds’ dugout, sending Moesquit home to tie the
game at 2-2.
Katz and Mores traded scoreless frames into extra innings, where Hagerstown took control.

Corredor finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Suns in the win.
Breazeale tallied a 2-for-3 three evening with a run scored for Delmarva.

Dietz went 4.1 innings in a no-decision for the Shorebirds, allowing two runs on six hits. Johnston lasted five frames
for the Suns, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits.

Game Two
Tim Naughton (1-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen for the Shorebirds (32-27), finishing off the final 2.1 in-
nings of scoreless, one-hit ball. Jackson Stoeckinger (2-5) endured the loss for the Suns (23-37) after surrendering
seven runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings.

The Suns stayed hot in the first inning as Antuna singled with one out. Corredor followed with a base hit to put
Antuna at third, and Banks lifted a sac fly to center to put Hagerstown in front 1-0.

Delmarva answered in its half of the first. Moesquit led off with a single, followed by a Mason McCoy walk to place
runners at first and second. Zach Jarrett then come up and smoked an RBI single to left to plate Moesquit, making
it 1-1.
In the second, the Shorebirds opened up the floodgates. Will Robertson started by clubbing a home run to left field
to make it 2-1. After a lineout, Moesquit and McCoy mirrored their first inning with a single and walk, and Jarrett
laced a double down the right field line, scoring both to put the Shorebirds up 4-1.

The third featured another long ball, this time off the bat of Ryan Ripken, who pulled a ball into right field for his
third homer of the year to make it 5-1. In the fourth, McCoy and Branden Becker each banged RBI doubles, giving
the Shorebirds seven unanswered runs and a 7-1 lead.

Hagerstown made their move against Scott Burke in the top of the fifth with a one-out double from Omar Meregil-
do, followed by a single from Garcia, and a walk to Antuna to load the bases. Corredor then stepped in and cleared
the bases with a triple into the right field gap, making it 7-4 and chasing Burke. Naughton came in and coaxed a
groundout to end the inning.

Burke went 4.2 innings in his second straight spot start, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Delmarva added further insurance in the sixth. Jaylen Ferguson led off with a single and Moesquit reached base on
an error. After a McCoy fielder’s choice, Zach Jarrett doubled home another run. Becker legged out an infield single
to load the bases, and McCoy scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-4. Trevor Craport added one on a sac fly to left,
and Becker came around to score on an error. The four-run Delmarva inning sealed the deal.

Jarrett packed a good week into just one night, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and four RBIs. Moesquit
finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and stole his 29th base of the season, matching his total from 2017. McCoy
doubled, walked twice, and scored three times.
Corredor finished 2-for-3 with the three-run triple for the Suns, while Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and run.
The 11 runs were the third-most Delmarva has scored this season and the fourth time the team has eclipsed the
double-digit runs mark.
