RESEARCH PROJECT

TRANSFORMING ELECTRIC MOTORS INTO A REUSABLE POWER SOURCE

Introduction

Electricity is the most viable form of energy directly usable to the modern society of man, as all
other form of energy. Thermal, mechanical, and chemical requires a generator in order to utilize these
forms of energy to the ever growing technological society of man. None of the technological
advancement humans have achieved would be possible if not for the discovery of electricity as an
energy source. Majority of the electricity source in the Philippines came from fossil fuel. As such,
generating electricity for consumption seriously harms the environment, and exhausts our limited
source of expendable natural energy source. Although, renewable energy are being implemented to
counteract the use of fossil fuels, it is still not enough as national demand for electricity exceeds those
that are being supplied through the alternative fuel system. In order to save energy, numerous studies
have been created in order to help fight energy wasting. In order to aid this cause we will study about
the nature of electric motors and its potential to be reused as a generator capable of producing
electricity.

This study is created by STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students of
St. Theresas School of Novaliches in order to aid the global campaign for energy saving and use of
renewable energy sources. In this study, the researcher hopes to develop a mechanical ingenuity that
combines the process of electric motor and generator. As an electric motor, the device shall acts as a
normal electric fan, but to the generator augmentations it can be possible for it to recycle energy and
use it as either a light bulb or a power source for any small voltage devices. Though power recycling
cannot exceed the amount of the initial energy, and it cannot produce the same amount of electricity
from its power source. Using this device we can save a little bit of energy and reuse for daily life needs.
It is not very impactful as a single unit, but can be really helpful if the society contributes to its cause.

Background of the Study

The idea of reusing energy over and over again originally brought attention from the attempt to
create a Perpetually Moving machine. A Machine that is capable of moving continuously infinitely
appealed to the mass as its potential energy production can be a world changing event. However it
proved early on as scientifically impossible, as it breaks fundamental Physics Law to even be considered
as viable. The Law of Conservation of Energy clearly states that the amount of energy in the whole
universe is constant and therefore cannot be mass produce. Energy, like matter, cannot be created or
destroyed. Additionally, being able to create a perpetual moving machine breaks the 1st law of
Thermodynamics; it states that all things in the universe will come to destruction. So called as entropy,
therefore a machine that is theoretically said to exist continuously is not possible. Every matter decays
and machinery parts are of no exemption. Given these scientific laws, it alluded to the devices logical
implausibility. Using these setbacks, a new type of device capable of reusing energy again emerged; man
cannot fight entropy or the Law of Conservation of Energy. However we can limit the things we want to
achieve and produce a less flashy incarnation of the perpetually moving machine in to something that
basically serves what it is supposed to do. Abuse energys constant and reuses energy. How will the
perpetually moving machine be able to produce tons of energy? It is through the use of generators and
Faradays law , a turbine will be connected through the machine and its perpetual motion will create
mechanical energy that is able to move the magnets inside the generator around the copper wires and
create electromagnetic induction and create electricity. It was only proven that this is scientifically
impossible, therefore we have opted in more realistic but less impactful machinery. In this device we will
mechanically augment an ordinary motor (preferably something that is used daily like an electric fan)
with lightweight generators capable of producing 20 watts and reusing a little bit of energy consumed by
the motor. Though exceeding the initial electric cost is not possible, as per the Law of Conservation of
Energy; where energy, when transformed into another form will lose some of energy through heat.
Therefore maximum utilization of energy sources is not possible. This device can create quite unique
scenarios. But more importantly it is able to to use energy one more time and this will be completely
free. That is the aim of this study.
Statement of The Problem

1. How efficient is the technology in energy reusing?

2. It is economically viable to be used in a common household?
3. How can it help the Filipinos in day to day activities?
4. What impact can it cause to the energy and electrical industry in our country?
5. How can we further utilize the device ingenuity in the technological society that we live in?

Scope and Delimitation

The studys scope includes STEM Senior High School students enrolled at St. Theresas School of
Novaliches at the Academic Year 2017 2018. The study will use the respondents perception and
knowledge in energy consumption and energy saving. Its delimitation excludes other schools for
practical reasons and strands as the study is purely scientific, more relevant to the STEM strand.

Significance of the Study

As stated early on the study, the research will have many beneficiaries

!. Household

If created and used correctly, the devices ingenuity and cost effectiveness will help a lot of common
household through energy saving and practical uses.

2. School Administration

The study would help the school not only in energy saving but also bringing it honor and recognition.

3. Future Researchers

The study will serve as another contribution to the ever growing technological advancement and paves
the way for more energy saving devices.
