This study aims to determine the compatibility of a solar power cell and a powerbank to create a
solarized power bank. Compact disk (CD) and copper wire reacts to the exposure of the sun and
releases electricity. For the power bank, the rechargeable battery can work well with the circuit
board through the wires. The researchers will use two treatments; Treatment A is solarized
powerbank and Treatment B is the commercial Power Bank. They will compare the two products
concerning the voltage, life span and ability to charge.
The materials that will be used are compact disk(CD), copper wire, rechargeable battery,
connector, circuit board, PVC sheet, super glue, multimeter, diagonal pliers and electrical tape.
The solar power cell which is from copper wire glued to a compact disk and an attached
connector will be connected to a power bank made from a circuit board and rechargeable battery
then charge the smartphone.

To conclude, the researchers must test the two treatments in regards to its voltage, life span and
its ability to charge. For the results, compare the two products, check what's better between the
two then compile.

(6) INTRODUCTION

A solar power bank is an energy storage device that uses solar energy to charge/power various
electronic devices such as phones, tablets, laptops, torches, lights, televisions, and so on. We can
collect energy from the sun using panels and convert it into energy that is suitable and sufficient
to power a device. Solar energy in this form is advantageous. For instance, technology has
created a variety of options for utilizing this plentiful resource. It is considered a green
technology nowadays, as it does not emit greenhouse gases. Power banks are usually small
enough to carry around and use whenever the need comes, but some are large and must be
stationed. Solar power banks are available in a variety of capacities (typically between 1000 and
50,000 mAh) and are designed to suit various preferences.

Solar panels can be used to charge power banks. These panels can be connected to the power
bank via a USB or incorporated into the gadget itself. Solar panels obtain their energy from the
sun, so the quantity of charge depends on how much sunlight is available. To get the most out of
a solar power bank, expose the device's solar panel to direct sunlight. On average, it will take
your solar power bank between 24-48 hours to fully charge, assuming the device was exposed to
unobstructed sunlight.

The main feature of the solar power bank that makes it distinctive is that it will draw power as
long as there is sunshine, even if it is only a little bit. The energy stored during daylight hours is
then preserved for subsequent use. Some small solar power banks can be charged both with the
sun and with ordinary energy. Solar power banks are a cost-effective, environmentally
responsible, and dependable source of power for your gadgets. Most significantly, it allows you
to be connected at all times, from wherever!
(6.1) RATIONALE/ SIGNIFICANCE

Electricity costs are becoming increasingly expensive as a result of rising demands for power and
a hotter environment. While El niño is raging in our country, most are suffering from the
continuing rise in electricity bills due to the uncontrollable heat. The sun is considered hostile
during el ñino because of the extreme heat it carries. The circumcision of everyone in their
homes is the reason for the increase in electricity bills. Turning on electric fans all day without
being turned off, aircon overnight, and gadgets that are occasionally charged.
We can state that the product we will create is environmentally beneficial because it will use
natural energy which is heat energy. It is not as simple as they think because this product just
needed to conduct heat to release electricity this is good for definite purposes that make it
different from any other power bank. During the summer season, we need to take advantage of
the heat of the sun through this product.

It is also incredibly convenient, has affordable materials, and has less hassle which distinguishes
it from other solar power banks in the market today. It can also be made at your own home
nowadays. The supplies are easily accessible because they are all around you. In completion, it
can't be hard to construct the materials and build the device without any further effort.

This is why we developed a device that would assist in consuming less and is built using
affordable materials. It is small enough to fit in your pocket or bag without worrying about the
space used. This can be used as a portable charging station for students, teachers, and others who
need gadgets all the time. This cannot be used in appliances but at least it can lessen the bill of
electricity.

(6.2) SCIENTIFIC BASIC/ THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK/ MATHEMATICAL

THEORY INVOLVED

Inferential statistics won out over all other types of statistics. The researchers picked
the t-test to compare the two products out of the three forms of inferential statistics
available. The participants will run a quality test to validate their hypothesis in terms of quality,
durability, and charging speed. The test will be done to answer the questions
of the researchers by hypothesis.
Once the assessment is completed, they will be able to discern differences in relation to
relevance and utility. The researchers will also undertake one-tailed and two-tailed t-tests to
determine whether there are any changes and which mean is higher. Correspondingly, they'll
now be able to identify whether their homemade solar power bank can compete with commercial
solar power

(6.3) OBJECTIVES

General:
Our long-term objective with this project is to build a solarized powerbank out of low-cost
materials to encourage customers to spend less money and better understand the usage of
products derived from natural energy, such as electricity obtained from sunlight.

Specific:
We will accomplish this aim by meeting the following objectives:
1) Create a budget-friendly Solar Power Bank .
2) Construct a Solar Power Bank that is non-toxic and eco-friendly.
3) Create an alternative source of electricity that helps reduce your electricity consumption

(7) REVIEW OF LITERATURE

According to Northwestern University, Blu-ray discs also improve the performance of solar
cells, suggesting a second use for unwanted discs. An interdisciplinary research team has
discovered that the pattern of information written on a Blu-ray disc works very well for
improving light absorption across the solar spectrum. Blu-ray discs might work for improving
solar cells, and, to their delight, they found the existing patterns are already very good, said
Jiaxing Huang, a materials chemist and an associate professor of materials science and
engineering. Blu-ray discs contain a higher density of data than DVDs or CDs, and it is this
quasi-random pattern, perfected by engineers over decades for data storage, that, when
transferred to the surface of solar cells, provides the right texture to improve the cells’ light
absorption and performance. Their team tested a wide range of movies and television shows
stored on Blu-ray discs, including action movies, dramas, documentaries, cartoons, and black-
and-white content, and found the video content did not matter. All worked equally well for
enhancing light absorption in solar cells. Northwestern researchers have demonstrated that a Blu-
ray disc’s strings of binary code 0s and 1s, embedded as islands and pits to store video
information, give solar cells the near-optimal surface texture to improve their absorption over the
broad spectrum of sunlight. These two purposes, the researchers said, have resulted in a quasi-
random array of islands and pits (0s and 1s) with feature sizes between 150 and 525 nanometers.
And this range, it turns out, works quite well for light-trapping applications over the entire solar
spectrum.

Researchers Sambandh Bhusan Dhal, Arun Agarwal, and Kabita Agarwal wanted to create a
solar-powered portable power bank for a mobile phone that uses sunlight as its ultimate source of
energy, which may be employed successfully during catastrophic scenarios. It features a built-in
solar panel that transforms solar energy into electrical energy, and the charge of it is
subsequently transferred to a battery for storage for other use, with the battery including a
microprocessor that indicates the percentage of charge remaining in the battery.

From June 2017 to February 2018, Tagaytay City Science National High School did a project
named "Rechargeable Solar Power Bank." The goal of this research was to create a portable
power bank that could be charged using both solar and electrical energy. The researchers
employed an experimental research design in their work, which is a set of research strategies that
use manipulation and controlled testing to examine causal processes.
As a result, researchers made a solar power bank. It is based on the power of the sun, which
converts solar energy to electricity and aids in charging mobile phones that may be used in
communication, critical stages such as during calamities, and also a power outage. In addition to
this, an interdisciplinary study team revealed that the information pattern put on a Blu-ray disc
works extremely well for enhancing light absorption across the solar spectrum. It is well
established in the world of solar cells that adding roughness to the surface of a solar cell scatters
light more efficiently, enhancing the efficiency of the cell. The researchers have some tests and
resulted in a quasi-random array of islands and pits (0s and 1s) with feature sizes between 150
and 525 nanometers. And this range, it turns out, that it works quite well for light-trapping
applications over the entire solar spectrum. According to the researchers, the total broadband
absorption gain of a Blu-ray patterned solar cell was measured to be 21.8 percent.
(8) METHODOLOGY

The researchers will prepare the following materials; 1 compact disk (cd), 1 copper wire (10
inches), 1 rechargeable battery, 2 connectors (micro USB-port), 1 circuit board, 1 PVC sheet, 1
super glue, diagonal plier, electrical tape and a multimeter to measure the voltage.

The studies in this chapter are an example of an experimental study design. The solar-powered
bank (SPB) is intended to help students, instructors, and anybody else who needs to charge their
gadgets and other electronic equipment at any time and from any location.

They prepared all the materials. The researchers will start by creating the solar panel that will be
the source of electricity for the powerbank. In creating this solar panel they will first scrap the
design of the compact disc to be utilized, ensuring that it is clean and dismantled for proper
operation. Along with a ready-to-use disc, align the copper wire in a high curve line until the
whole compact disc is occupied. For instance, use super glue to keep the wire in place. Now grab
the charger connector then cut the USB-A connector part of it as well as connecting both ends of
the copper wire attached to the compact disk to the end of the cut connector.

Without the framework, the researcher’s won’t be able to make everything function. So they're
going to establish a case for the second procedure. Initiate by cutting and gluing together two
91x22.5 mm and two 22.5x22.5 mm PVC sheets. Afterwards, cut a hole in a two 22.5x22.5
PVC .5heet by marking the bank module for charging and a USB port also glue the bank module
to the PVC sheet and connect the batteries just by soldering copper wire to the negative and
positive ports. Then use electrical tape to secure the battery’s end and insert it in the case. Cover
the case with another 22.5x22.5 PVC sheet and the power bank is ready.

To be able to finish the solarized power bank the researchers will connect the two products
together. This will be done by plugging the connector attached to the compact disk into the
charging port of the powerbank.
