NOTICE
Composition competition Torre della Quarda
Edition 2018
Art. 1 - The competition is open to all nationalities with no age limit and with
limitless styles of composition.
Each candidate may present one or more compositions in the same category and/or
different categories.
Section 2 Orchestra composition
Instrumentation available. It is required the use of no fewer than 15 instruments:
2 Flutes in C
2 Oboes
2 Clarinets (Bb/A)
2 Bassoons
2 Horns in F
2 Trumpets (C/Bb)
Timpani (1 player 3 timpani: 32'' - 28'' - 26'')
Strings (7/6/4/4/2)
The length of the orchestra composition must not exceed 15 minutes and it has no
limit of minimum length.
Not admitted production of compositions for solo instrument and orchestra.
People applying for section 2 can send one only composition.
It is possible to propose compositions for solo string orchestra.
In both sections (chamber music and orchestra) the use of electronic disposals is
not permitted, at all.
In section 1 Euros 15 fee allows the mailing of 3 scores; for further forwarding
exceeding the 3 quoted before you have to send Euros 2 for each of them. The
donation of Euros 15 entitles the candidate to submit 3 scores, for any number of
scores above 3 the candidate must pay Euros 2 for each extra score.
In section 2 the admission fee allows the mailing of only one score. The forwarding
of other scores will imply payment of the relevant fee for each of them. The
detached parts (orchestra parts) will be requested only to the author of the winner
composition who will send them in PDF format within 10 days from notice.
Art. 4 TYPE OF SCORES
The scores must be presented in PDF, they must be attached to the mail address
they are sent from and they must be written preferably with an informatics program
(Finale, Sibelus, etc.). Handwritten and scanned scores are allowed, however, if they
are deemed illegible or not clear by the Jury Panel, they will be eliminated from the
competition. In case non traditional notation the score will have to be supported by
legend.
The competition is not anonymous therefore scores have to quote the name of the
composer.
Jury Panel substitutes will be named in case of necessity. The decisions of the jury
are unquestionable and unappealable.
Art. 7 AWARDS
Section 1 - PRIZE WALTER FERRATO
Offered by the Associazione Carla e Walter Ferrato.
Three categories are included in this section: trio, duo, instrument solo; the Jury
Panel will indicate the best compositions of each category. Among these three
compositions, the best one will win the contest; to the other two will be awarded a
reimbursement for participation expenses.
Winner of section 1 (best composition in absolutes): Euros 1000 and the
performance of the score during the 6th edition of Festival Internazionale di Musica
di Savona. The winning score, if not already published, will be published by Da Vinci
Publishing/Osaka Mozart Association (Osaka Japan). The contract conditions are
readable to this address: https://amiosaka.com/contracts.
Reimbursements for the other two categories: Euros 200 (for each category) and
the performance of the scores during the 6th edition of Festival Internazionale di
Musica di Savona.
In this section, a special mention will be provided for some of the scores that will
not be declared as winners.
The jury reserves the right not to award the prizes if the level is not considered high
enough.
The compositions performed will be recorded (audio and video) and a copy will be
sent to the candidates if they wish so.
After the results of the competition have been published on the association web site
(www.ensemblenuovemusiche.eu) and on Facebook site, the winners will be
notified by email. There will be not notification for the candidates who are not
winners.
The prize giving of the winner of both sections will take place on the day of the
concert of the San Remo Symphony Orchestra (June 30, 2018) during which will be
played the only composition of section 2. The performance of the winning
composition and of the 2 compositions that will obtain refund in section 1 will take
place during another concert on another date (always in June 2018). As both
concerts section 1 and section 2 take place on different dates the winner of section
1 and the composers that obtained refund have to know that the execution of their
own compositions and the prize giving will happen in different days.
The association will be pleased to invite the winners to the award ceremony, but
there will be not reimbursement for expenses incurred (travel, hotel etc.).
Art. 9 The participation to the competition Torre della Quarda 2018 implies the
unconditional acceptance of all candidates, of the above regulations.
Art. 10 - In the event of contest or dispute the only legal valid document is the
present notice of competition in Italian, composed of 10 articles. The Court of
Savona will have exclusive competence.
