i.) Even Witches Hope

Prologue
She was all alone and loneliness killed her. It wasn't the fact that Sooyoung had pushed her away when
the girl told her about her one-sided feelings. Neither was it the fact that Yuri had given her a look of
disgust when she admitted she wasn't straight. It wasn't the fact that her members threw her away like
she was a faulty Barbie doll. Those were all bearable to her; she wasn't hurt at all. She was used to it.
Icy, icy, icy. That was what everyone thought of her anyway (but her sister had grasped her hand tightly,
saying, "Your hands are so warm. How is it possible for my dear sister to be made of ice?")
Her only solace was gone the moment she confessed. She loved Taeyeon. And Taeyeon had been like
everyone else, leaving her alone in the darkness. Why was life so unfair to her? How was it possible for
everyone to support Taeyeon and Tiffany's relationship, yet reject her so easily? It didn't make any sense
to her. What was the difference? Both were still a lesbian relationship anyway.
Maybe because it was Taeyeon. Or maybe it was because they looked so in love and happy together
and she looked like a third party intruding their relationship.
And now, those who swore to stand by her side were all gone. She thanked god that Krystal was safe,
happy and still with all her friends. She really had to thank f(x), they really protected her sister. If anyone
hurt her baby sister, she would kill to protect Krystal. She was grateful that her sister's situation was no
where near her sorry plight.
The night breeze was too cold but the silence, save for the click of her heels, was much appreciated.
Flickering neon lights and street lamps lit up the road. The occasional passing cars cruised on and the
absence of people made her feel slightly claustrophobic.
She never liked being alone.
Even with a black trench coat on, she shivered. A sleek white car stopped beside her and the windows
rolled down.
"Hey, miss? You alright?"
She was wearing shades and the man in the car was unable to recognize Girls' Generation's Jessica Jung.
"Yes, thanks. I'm fine," She smiled, a grateful one.
"Well, in that case, be safe. Have a nice day, I mean, have a nice night," The man chuckled.
"Thanks, you have a nice night too," She grinned slightly and waved him off.

2|Page

The car sped off and she couldn't help the tears that came to her eyes. At least, now she knew that
someone still cared. Her phone vibrated in her pocket and she fished it out, eyeing the screen.
Tiffany.
Perhaps she wasn't all alone after all.
***
She returned to the dorm upon Tiffanys request (command, really.) She immediately realized that they
had thrown a party there. They used to have parties like this they called it the 5 glasses party when
nobody was allowed to leave until she has drunk 5 glasses of alcohol, be it wine or beer. They usually
drank wine and Jessica now saw 3 bottles of wine open already. The whole dorm was in chaos, with the
occasional laughter and blaring music. Leftover pizza on the floor, beer cans everywhere. She shook her
head in disapproval, muttering incoherent curses at Tiffany for dragging her here. Shed rather spend
the time outside on the streets than here in the dorm.
Surprisingly, Tiffany was still sober, looking like she had not touched a glass.
Wow, you look sober, Tiffany, thats a surprise, She informed the girl.
Thats because I am sober, Jessi. Being at these parties, I realized that the 5 glasses rule would be
ignored if you were sober and the rest were drunk. I dont like being drunk. Anyway. I absolutely abhor
alcohol, Tiffany cringed at the sight of Sunny and Yoona fooling around, clinking glasses with each other.
Why did you call me here anyway? You know that Im not exactly on friendly terms with everyone. I
was planning to go home.
You guys are more like enemies than mere strangers or acquaintances.
Well, thanks for shoving that info in my face, I didnt know that I was enemies with them, She said,
tone dripping with sarcasm.
Hey, at least drink some wine. It wont hurt. Now that theyre drunk, they wont mind you. They might
even treat you as their best friend, just like old times.
She didnt know how why she took Tiffanys advice and drank more than 5 glasses of wine. She didnt
know how she became so tipsy.
Wait. Why was she on Taeyeons bed with Taeyeon hovering over her?
She slapped herself awake and realized that a drunken Taeyeon was hovering over her. Taeyeon was
leaning in, in an attempt to capture her lips. Taeyeon, her love, was trying to kiss her. The situation
looked like it would further develop into something more, something she would probably regret.
Namely, sex. Should she push her away?
She wanted Taeyeon, needed Taeyeon. Would it be selfish of her to do this?
3|Page

She could hardly care.

Taeyeon loves her (she pretends.)
It didnt matter to Jessica then that Taeyeon did this all in a drunken stupor. It didnt matter that
Taeyeon kept chanting Tiffanys name instead of hers (Ppany, Ppany, Ppany.)
What did matter was Taeyeons heartbreaking confession (I love you, Ppany.)
And when everything (the kisses, the loving confessions, and the sex) was over, Jessicas heart was in
Taeyeons hands and it had been crushed.
She should have been numb, but she wasnt.
***
1.) Last Night
was a mistake, Taeyeon had said.
"Let's not complicate things further. I'm sorry," Taeyeon had further elaborated when Jessica went
against her better judgment and asked Taeyeon why. Jessica knew she shouldn't ask why. They were
both adults, both were celebrities and both were in the same k-pop girl group called Girls' Generation.
Such a relationship would only complicate things. They had been drunk, totally wasted last night, and
had acted when the alcohol was coursing through their veins. For Taeyeon, maybe it had been the lust
and the heat of the moment, or maybe it was due to heartbreak. After all, Taeyeon had been forced to
break up with Tiffany.
But for Jessica, it had been out of greed, selfishness and love.
She had wanted Taeyeon for so long. There wasn't anything stopping them last night. It wasn't wrong to
be selfish just once, right? For once, she could pretend that it was mutual love and attraction between
them. For once, she could pretend that Taeyeon loved her. Because it wasn't mere fucking last night, it
was passionate.
(Until Taeyeon cried out Tiffany's name.)
Jessica was the second oldest in the group and she knew fairly well what she had done was wrong. She
had taken advantage of Taeyeon, she had broken the unsaid rule of society.
What she had done was taboo. Gay, lesbian, un-straight. Something society didn't want. Something that
their manager and the company wouldn't want too. That was why Taeyeon was forced to break up with
Tiffany in the first place.
Heart shattered, yes, but the world had to go on. They had schedules still. Jessica had to force herself
out of bed. She wasn't ready to face this cruel world, but she had too. When she went to the dormitory's
living room, she was met with Tiffany munching on a couple of cookies.
4|Page

"Jessi, you're awake," More of a statement than a question, really.

Tiffany seemed less affected by the breakup as compared to Taeyeon. She seemed to be taking it rather
well. Jessica felt thoroughly sorry for Tiffany though. She forced her lips to curve into a smile before
waving the statement off. The frown on her face was still present as she dragged herself to the kitchen,
feeling more guilty than sorry. She had betrayed her American friend because of the deed she had done
last night. Jessica was pretty sure Tiffany was still very much in love with Taeyeon.
She grabbed the box of cereal and poured the flakes into a bowl of milk. Jessica took the seat directly in
front of Tiffany and the silence is already stabbing Jessica in the neck. Thanks to the members' early
schedules, she could have the cereal box all to herself. If the others were there, there would have been
fighting over the cereal box. Everyone wanted to read the back of the cereal box. Jessica wasn't even
sure why now. She used to think that it was fun to read the back but now, sitting in front of a silent-butstill-munching-on-cookies Tiffany, she did not enjoy it at all.
Unable to stand the silence anymore, Jessica moved the cereal box out of the way and she coughed
before asking.
"How are things between you and... Tae-"
She choked on the cereal before she could even finish her question and she was thrust into a coughing
fit. When she recovered, she didn't miss the guilt and disappointment in Tiffany's eyes. And for a
moment, Jessica almost thought that Tiffany knew what had happened last night.
"I'm getting over it, of course. I'm just sad that Taeyeon doesn't seem to be taking this thing well. She
looked really upset when she left just now. And I'm guilty because I feel like I'm moving on too easily.
And it's killing me because I don't love Taeyeon anymore but Taeyeon still has lingering feelings for me."
Jessica nearly choked at her words. That was Tiffany, blunt, straightforward and to the point. Tiffany
was honest about her feelings. She didn't like to lead people on and Jessica can understand why Tiffany
felt contrite. Again, Jessica could feel herself going against her better judgment again.
"Why don't you love Taeyeon anymore?" She bit her lip and asked, even though she really wanted to
slap herself.
"Taeyeon... She's... Difficult, I guess. She's a very difficult person to love. She's our leader after all, and
what's more, she's heartbreaking. She doesn't need anyone to love her anyway. Our relationship won't
be approved in the long run too. It's taboo," Tiffany stated, giving Jessica a careless shrug, like she didn't
really care.
No, you're wrong! The inner Jessica fought. You're wrong! Taeyeon is easy to love! She needs you so
much and yet, you're here, carelessly giving her love away!
The cereal seemed sour all of a sudden. Jessica stood up. Clenched fists and gritted teeth.
"You're wrong."
5|Page

And she left the table.

***
2.) Rules
Or perimeters, as Taeyeon called it. The brunette had returned to the dorm and pulled Jessica into the
room she shared with Sooyoung and locked the door, ignoring the stares from the rest of the members.
Jessica settled on Sooyoung's bed and watched Taeyeon pacing around the room.
"Okay, we need to set some perimeters here. We need to forget about what happened between us. It
was nothing but a mistake. A wrong move. Got it? It was wrong for both of us. We need to maintain
some distance between each other first. Especially after what happened," She cringed before continuing,
"It isn't right."
It wasn't right for Taeyeon to keep hurting Jessica with her words. Didn't she know that the more she
talked, the more pain Jessica felt? Jessica was on the verge of tears. She felt her heart clench. Perhaps
Tiffany was right in saying that Taeyeon was heartbreaking. She gritted her teeth and frowned. She
didn't even bother trying to mask her emotions. Taeyeon was almost killing Jessica.
Taeyeon continued, "I can only hope that manager oppa and the members didn't notice anything. The
members wouldn't like it. Sure it might hurt, maybe for you, but it is only right."
Stop. Stop hurting me.
"I talked to Tiffany," Jessica interrupted dryly.
Taeyeon looked stunned. Jessica felt the need to hurt her. After all, she had been enduring the pain for
quite a while now.
Well, two can play at this game. She was sure Taeyeon knew how it felt now.
"You... What?" Taeyeon half-yelled.
"I talked to Tiffany this morning. About you and her."
Jessica could see Taeyeon swallow. She knew that Taeyeon was in a fix; she didn't know if she wanted
to know what Tiffany said or whether she just wanted Jessica out of her room.
"W-What did she say?" Her voice was shaking.
Jessica was going to hurt her, not with her words but Tiffany's.
"She doesn't love you anymore."
The words did more damage than Jessica expected. Taeyeon collapsed to the ground, her legs had given
out. She no longer had any strength left. It seemed that all life of her was sapped. But Jessica could
hardly care. The damage was done. Taeyeon had been cruel anyway.
6|Page

"Sure it might hurt, maybe for you, but its only right," Jessica spat, using the exact same words of
Taeyeon.
***
3.) Second best
Jessica felt like dying. The guilt that stemmed from the inside of her heart seemed to only grow. There
wasn't supposed to be guilt. After watching Taeyeon break down, she had gone to the roof of the dorm,
needing some fresh air and breathing space. When she had left the room, the other members
Sooyoung, Yoona, Yuri and Hyoyeon had rushed to Taeyeon, comforting her.
Nobody bothered with the witch who had made Taeyeon cry.
After all, she had already been deemed the bad person (the witch who poisoned Snow White, the wolf
which tried to eat little red riding hood, the stepmother of Cinderella, there was no difference between
them and her) ever since she told Sooyoung that she liked Taeyeon. Yes, she had told Sooyoung, and
Sooyoung had told the rest of SNSD. Jessica was branded a traitor, the evil person, the third person in
Taeny's relationship. Yuri had given her dirty looks; Sooyoung had forced her to forget her love for
Taeyeon. She could still remember what Taeyeon had said after she found out.
"Give up. I will never love you. Even if Tiffany ditched me, I will never ever love you. Even if you beg for
my love, the most I can treat you is like a rebound."
And when Jessica had gulped, swallowed her pride and asked why, she realized that she was laying
herself bare again, letting Taeyeon hurt her.
"You can only be second best, Jessica."
Second best, never first. She was a second choice to Taeyeon, and nothing hurt more than hearing it
from Taeyeon herself.
Tch, who needed friends anyway? There was no need for company at all. Loneliness, she embraced it. So
what if nobody was with her? So what if everyone ditched her and was against her? So what if she was
alone?
(So what if she was crying when she told herself all this?)
She took a deep breath and tried to stop her tears. She ran a hand through her hair and let out the
breath she had been holding. There wasn't any room for tears, she decided. When her tears ceased to
flow and the sniffing stopped, she looked up at the night sky.
There was Vega, the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, the fifth brightest star in the night sky. Vega
was shared between her and her sister. Before their debut, Krystal and she would always try to spot
Vega together. Krystal was so dear to her and Vega was something she would always hold close to her
heart.
7|Page

She let out a chuckle, remembering her baby sister. Krystal was the only person that could make her
smile no matter what. Dialing Krystal's number, she waited for the line to connect.
"Hello? Sis?"
"Hey, Krys," Her voice trembled due to the after effects of crying.
"Sis, are you alright? You sound like you're crying," Her sister asked, the concern slightly overbearing.
She felt like crying the moment she heard the concern and worry in her sister's voice. Her sister was the
only one who cared about her.
"I-I'm fine. Just a bit tired."
"You sure? Just know that I'll always be here if you need me, alright? Anyway, what did you call me
for?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to hear your voice," She smiled bitterly.
"You seem out of sorts lately, Sis. Rest, it's late already. Remember to get plenty of sleep, I know you
need it, sleepyheads. Also, eat more, you're so thin now. Don't forget to call Mom and Dad once in a
while okay? You're the best, love you, bye."
Best to her sister. At least that was comforting to know, much better than knowing that she was only
second best to Taeyeon.
She thought the phone call would make her feel better.
(It didn't.)
***
4.) Even Witches Need Love
She nearly jumped when she heard Tiffany's voice after the phone call ended.
"So the witch who made Taeyeon cry is up here, all by herself?" Tiffany mocked, a sardonic grin present
on her face.
"So you joined the band, singing the same tune as them, huh? 'Witch' is a pretty common term for
them," She faked a laugh.
"Hey, don't get all angry and pissed. I don't want to get turned into a frog princess or anything."
"I might just poison you with an apple, Snow White. Oh wait, but you have your prince to save you.
Prince Taeyeon would rid of the Witch and save Snow White, right?"
Tiffany let out a laugh and stood beside Jessica, leaning on the rails of the rooftop.
8|Page

"Now, don't get all bitter, alright?"

The conversation died off and the two adults just stood there, taking in the night scenery. But then,
Jessica decided to break the silence again.
"You know, I kind of regret joining this industry."
"Why?" Tiffany breathed.
"I'm a witch now, aren't I?" She stated dryly.
"It must be lonely, right? Standing in your tall tower, not letting anyone break through."
She gritted her teeth. She hated it when Tiffany read her so easily, like an open book. It made her
vulnerable.
"I don't need anyone."
Tiffany intertwined their fingers, grasping Jessica's hand tightly.
"Even witches need a little love sometimes."
***
5.) 1 4 3, Less Than 3
"I betrayed you, you know," Jessica said.
"I know," Tiffany whispered.
She looked at her, gauging her reaction, "You're not mad at me?"
"Why should I be? I told you before, I'm over Taeyeon. Now, I'm not even sure if I even liked her in the
first place. Like I said, she's difficult to love."
Now that Jessica had been pushed aside by Taeyeon ("You can only be second best, Jessica."), she could
understand why Tiffany had said that. She was actually glad that Tiffany was on her side, unlike
everyone else.
"I regret it, though."
"I know what she said to you, y'know. All those so called perimeters and all. The thing about you being
second best," Jessica winced at Tiffany's words, "Taeyeon will never love you."
"I know. You don't have to drown my wounds with salt."
"I'm not. I'm just stating a fact."
"Yeah sure," Jessica shrugged.
9|Page

"To Taeyeon, you will only second best."

"Thanks, and here I thought you were trying to comfort me," Jessica said, voice dripping with sarcasm.
"But hey, at least you will always be the best in my eyes."
Tiffany grinned, smiling eyes and all. And Jessica knew then that everything would be alright. It didn't
matter that she had to go through more pain; as long as everything would turn out right in the end, she
was okay with it.
"I honestly feel that you're suddenly lacking the sarcasm," Jessica mentioned, still managing to crack a
joke.
"Jessi, even if the whole world hates you, you should know that your family, Krystal, they will always be
there for you. I'll be here for you too," Tiffany said sincerely.
"You know, I may have misunderstood you..."
"I'll be here for you, as long as you lend me Krystal. Honestly, she's like the perfect sister ever. You, as
the elder sister, you're not doing much, y'know. I think you guys switched roles already. She cooks for
you, she takes care of you, and she wakes you up. Wow. I'm starting to think that you're actually second
best in my eyes. Krystal should be first, because if you were the best, Krystal would be the bestest."
She whacked Tiffany's head hard, leaving Tiffany whimpering and begging for mercy.
"Finally, the insults arrive. Tch. And what, 'bestest'? What in the world is that? There's no such word at
all."
"Oh the word exists, alright. At least, in my world. But you know that you're the best, right?"
Tiffany sent her a wink and Jessica pretended to cringe in response. The pink-loving girl left, leaving
Jessica alone. Suddenly, her phone vibrated and she fished the phone out, only to see a text message
from Tiffany.
1 4 3, less than 3.
Jessica wished she could wipe the goofy smile off her face.
6.) I Love You
The next morning, the members left for their schedule, leaving Jessica and Tiffany in the dorm. Not that
Jessica minded though. She was glad she got some time alone with the pink monster. They were going
to make a comeback soon. They would have to spend hours in the practice room all day, practicing their
dance routine. The comebacks usually tired her out and she would get so thin and Krystal would nag at
her for it. f(x) had already made their comeback so Krystal was in a healthy weight range. The stress
usually got to Krystal and it made Jessica worried. Now that Jessica was still free from work and stress,
she decided that she would enjoy it.
10 | P a g e

Tiffany had made breakfast (safely, without burning down the kitchen, fortunately) and offered Jessica
some. It was nothing much, really, just American style breakfast for two Americans. The bacon was
tempting and Jessica took a few more strips of bacon, earning a sarcastic remark from Tiffany.
"I swear, with the amount of food you're eating, you'll never ever grow fat. In fact, you might even
shrink."
"Tch, it's not like you don't eat as much as me. Anyway, what was that 1 4 3, less than 3 thing all about
last night?"
"You don't know? And I thought you were smarter than that," Tiffany blurted.
"I just don't get the less than 3 part. Everyone knows what 1 4 3 is."
"So what is 1 4 3 then?"
"Simple. I love you."
"Aw, I love you too," Tiffany grinned.
Jessica allowed herself to sigh and shake her head at Tiffany. Tiffany was incorrigible.
"Hopeless. So what is less than 3?"
In response, Tiffany took out her phone and typed something. She flashed the screen to Jessica.
<3
"Oh. Oh. Oh. Wow. That's it? I thought it was some secret code I had to figure out."
"Sometimes, I wonder if all that sleeping you do get to you. Maybe your brain's too inactive. You need
to wake it up. I can help you with it. I have a hammer."
"Wow. Thank you."
"Welcome. But honestly though. I meant it."
"Meant what? Waking me up with a hammer?"
"No, idiot. My text message. I meant it."
Was it normal for Jessica's heart to skip a beat? Was it normal for Jessica to feel the butterflies in her
stomach? The tingling excitement did not waver.
Perhaps, Tiffany meant more than Taeyeon to Jessica.
Maybe, just maybe, she might fall for Tiffany.
"Hey, Jessi?"
11 | P a g e

"Yeah?"
"I love you."
"Me, too."

12 | P a g e

ii.) Even Heartless People Love

1.) Needy
Yes, she knew that she was a needy person. Love, skinship and affection kept her heart pumping, kept
her alive. Was it too much to ask for? Just these three things, were they too much? Jessica didn't know
the answer. Jessica knew she would be walking on thin ice when she chose to love Tiffany, but she didn't
know how thin the ice would be back then. And now, having broken the ice and drowning in the depths
of the water, she regrets her decision (she regrets more than half of her decisions anyway.)
They had been in the practice room earlier, practicing their dance routine for their long-awaited
comeback. She had messed up half the choreography, gotten the beat wrongly, and had made a
pathetic mistake which resulted in her falling to the ground, messing up the entire routine. It wasn't
really her fault though. After all, burning the midnight oil, bawling her eyes out over a particular
someone didn't exactly do her good.
Sooyoung had told her to get the moves right before coming over to practise with the rest of them. It
had almost seemed as if Sooyoung had treated her better than Taeyeon, which was quite a rare
occurrence. Taeyeon was usually the softer one when it came to dance practices. Taeyeon had harshly
scratched at her heart with her cold words ("If you can't even get half the moves right, I don't think
you're fit to stay in Girls' Generation.")
The threats of kicking her out of the group truly pierced her heart. She knew that those were just empty
threats; they would never let it happen because fans would never allow Girls' Generation to undergo a
member change. But she let the threats get under her skin, allowing them to hurt her. She was bare and
naked, open to hurt.
Just like how she was when she had gone back to the dorm and Tiffany came looking for her.
She was crying when Tiffany approached her.
"Hey, witch," Tiffany had taken to calling her 'Witch' now, even though Jessica could hardly hide her
distaste of the nickname.
She ignored Tiffany on purpose; she could hardly be bothered. What she wanted was comfort, not
Tiffany's sarcastic words.
"Why the glum face, witch? It's not like you weren't at fault or anything... Honestly, how do you get half
of the routine wrong? You sure are one of a kind."
"I don't need your sarcasm right now. If you think I'm bad and at fault, just say it," She gritted her teeth,
wanting no more of this.
Tiffany let herself grin even though Jessica was crying.
13 | P a g e

"Ooh. Witch is angry. I'd better watch out."

"I fucking hate you and your guts right now," She said through clenched teeth.
"Hey, it's your own fault. Don't go pinning the blame on others. You brought misery upon yourself,
Jessica. Why can't you just get the choreography right? Then we won't have to waste our time here with
you.
"What? So I'm a waste of time now? Fine then. Go. Go away. I don't need any of you. I don't fucking
need any of you," Her fists were clenched already, trying to control her temper.
Without another word, Tiffany turned on her heels and left Jessica.
And Jessica knew she was lying when she told Tiffany that she didn't need anyone.
***
2.) The Person Who Was Stone Cold
was really Tiffany, not Jessica. Ever since their quarrel, whenever Jessica tried to approach Tiffany, the
redhead would avoid her. She didn't know if Tiffany was doing it on purpose or if Tiffany was really
angry at her. It would be wrong for Jessica to say that she didn't miss Tiffany at all. Jessica longed to be
in Tiffany's embrace, despite her blunt and hurting words. Tiffany never once met her eye, never once
talked to her after that incident. It was almost as if whatever they had had vanished.
So with glassy eyes and parched lips, she put on her hoodie and trackpants, preparing to run the stress
away. It wasn't her to exercise outside, in the middle of the night; she usually did her exercises in the
gym, in the day. On her way out, she was met with a silent Tiffany at the dining table, along with Yoona
and Sunny.
"Sica, where in the world are you going at such an unearthly hour?" Yoona asked, mouth full of seaweed
chips.
Yoona and Sunny were having one of their movie marathons. Tiffany was seated at the dining table,
eyes on her macbook, looking tired and sloppy. The eye bags beneath her eyes were noticeable, but
Jessica doubted that it was because of her.
"I'm going out," She said simply.
Her eyes trailed over to Tiffany again. Wasn't she going to at least say something?
She stood there, watching Tiffany. Mentally counting down from 10, she figured that she should at least
give Tiffany 10 seconds to say something.
10.
Tiffany was still looking at her macbook.
14 | P a g e

9.
Yoona and Sunny were aware of the tension between the duo. Yoona and Sunny were good friends,
really. Other than Tiffany, these two supported Jessica the most.
8.
Yoona and Sunny exchanged glances, wondering what Jessica was waiting for.
7.
Then, Yoona's eyes brightened up, enlightened. Sunny nodded, seemingly able to understand the reason
behind the growing tension.
6.
Tiffany shifted her mouse. A click here and there.
5.
Sunny's eyes shifted towards Tiffany, hoping Tiffany would say something, but Tiffany's eyes were glued
to the screen.
4.
This was the very first time Jessica felt like using the macbook to smack Tiffany.
3.
Tiffany was still ignoring Jessica.
2.
Fuck this, because Tiffany did not move a muscle.
1.
No one dared to breathe, everyone hoping Tiffany would speak up.
0.
Screw you, Tiffany.
Jessica bit her inner lip, feeling the tears come to her eyes. There was absolutely no excuse for Tiffany.
Jessica had given her 10 seconds and Tiffany had stubbornly kept her golden mouth shut.
Jessica was so done with this.
She stormed out of the dorm, closing the door with a bang.
15 | P a g e

There was silence for a moment before Yoona shifted her eyes towards Tiffany.
"This time, it's really your fault."
***
3.) Running
Running was never Jessica's forte. It wasn't long before she stopped her run in the middle of the streets
of Seoul. The concrete pathway, illuminated by streetlamps, was deserted. There was only her. She let
the cool air dance on her skin as she inhaled deeply. The phone in her pocket jolted to life as it started
vibrating. She fished out her phone and realized that it was Krystal calling her.
"H-Hello?"
"Sis, are you okay? You don't sound too well. Are you sick or something?"
"No, just- just running. I mean, I was running."
"What?" Krystal shouted over the phone.
Jessica cringed a little before replying, "What? What's wrong?"
"What's wrong? What's wrong? Are you crazy, sis? It's 1.30am in the morning! For god's sake, what in
the world do you think you're doing?"
She was fully aware that her sister was merely concerned over her welfare but she couldn't help venting
her frustration on her sister.
"It's just running, god! At least I'm not committing suicide or anything! Do you think I don't know how to
take care of myself?"
"Sis, get your ass back to your dorm right now. Or you can come back home. Not dorm-home. Homehome. Where mom and dad are. I'm worried about you, Jessica," Her sister's tone softened a little.
She let herself sigh when she heard her sister. Looking up, she saw Vega again.
"Krys, look out the window. Look at the sky."
"What?"
"Just do it."
"... Oh. Wow. Look's like Vega made its appearance tonight," Her sister chuckled a little before
continuing, "Sis, remember how I asked you how to differentiate planets and stars?"
Of course she remembered.

16 | P a g e

Krystal had asked her what was the difference between planets and stars after watching a documentary
on astronomy. Krystal was only 11 years old then.
She had replied, "Krys, in the night sky, there will always be planets and stars. Sometimes you see them,
sometimes you don't. Stars are like Vega. Now, look there," Jessica pointed at the night sky, "Look at the
one on the left."
"Uh huh, I see it, sis."
"That's a planet. The one on the right is a star."
"But sis, why?"
"Krys, stars twinkle, planets just shine. You're like Vega, twinkling, outstanding, beautiful and much,
much prettier than the rest of them out there."
"Really, sis?"
"Mhmm" She had hummed a reply.
That was over 10 years ago.
She smiled at the sight, Tiffany and Girls' Generation and Taeyeon all forgotten. Just her sister, herself,
Vega, and the night sky.
"Of course I remember, Krys. Although I may not have been a 100% accurate then."
"Nah, even if it isn't accurate, I don't care. All that matters is you."
She could almost hear her sister smiling on the other side of the line.
"Hey, sis?"
"Hmm?" She hummed.
"Please come home."
Because her sister was a thousand times more important than Tiffany, because she knew for sure that
her sister loved her more than life, because there was warmth instead of the cold that Jessica dreaded,
Jessica turned and ran to her home.

4.) Birthday
Jessica arrived at the dorm just when the clock strike twelve.
It was Tiffany's birthday no more.

17 | P a g e

And Jessica had missed it.

She was greeted by a pissed Tiffany who looked drunk enough to vomit on her.
"Where were you? For the past few days, I only see you at practices, never at the dorm. Where were
you?"
"It's none of your business anyway."
Tiffany's eyebrows were pulled down into a frown as she shook her head, a hand landing on Jessica's
forearm.
"Tell me, I need to know. You belong to me, I need to know."
She scoffed, "I belong to you? Tiffany, I gave you 10 seconds. 10 seconds for you to hold me back. And
what did you do? Ab-so-lute-ly no-thing," She emphasized the last few syllables.
"Witch, you really are a witch. You evil woman."
Tiffany grabbed Jessica by the waist and pressed her lips against hers in a sudden kiss. Jessica fought and
struggled to push Tiffany away. But the drunk girl somehow had more strength than Jessica.
The kiss wasn't magical, really. She could taste the alcohol from Tiffany's lips. Vile and sinful.
When Tiffany had to break the kiss for air, Jessica took the opportunity to push Tiffany away. She swung
her right arm and her hand landed on Tiffany's cheek in a harsh slap.
"Fuck you, Tiffany. Don't you dare kiss me when you're drunk, not even when you're sober."
***
5.) Belated Birthday
Tiffany woke up with a major hangover. Her left cheek still stung and the events from yesterday night
came rushing through her mind. She touched her cheek lightly, wincing a little. She tugged at her hair,
knowing it was her fault the entire time. She stumbled out of her room and was expecting to see Jessica
at the dining table, only to be disappointed. It was only Yoona.
"Looking for Sica?" Yoona asked, still chewing the bread.
Tiffany nodded tiredly. She no longer had the strength left and the hangover was still killing her.
"She left you some meds in the kitchen. She bought it this morning."
"So she's gone now?"
"She went out somewhere. I didn't ask. Sooyoung was dissing her earlier on so she went out. Sooyoung's
really a bit too harsh on Sica," Yoona shook her head in disapproval.
18 | P a g e

Tiffany nodded her head and dragged herself to the kitchen. She noticed the pink-colored pills on the
table top. Tiffany exhaled. Looks like Jessica went out of her way to buy pink-colored pills for her,
knowing that she wouldn't take medicine unless it was pink in colour.
It made Tiffany guiltier than ever.
Tiffany wandered out of the kitchen and into Jessica's room. The room smelled like Jessica. She dived
into Jessica's bedsheets, inhaling deeply. She honestly loved Jessica's scent. One of the things that very
much attracted Tiffany to Jessica. She laid down flat on the bed, breathing, looking at the white ceiling.
And she noticed a box that was wrapped in pink with a red ribbon tied around it.
She crawled and wriggled to the bedside table and grabbed the pink box. There was an envelope beside
it so she opened it, peeling the envelop open. She was surprised to find a letter inside.

Tiff,
Happy Birthday.
Love,
Jessi

It was merely a birthday wish, but Tiffany couldn't help the clenching of her fist, or the tears pooling in
her eyes.

6.) Who's Cold Now?
It had been a week since Tiffany had found the birthday present in Jessica' room. Also a week since
Jessica had decided not to sleep at the dorm at night. And also a week since Sooyoung had scolded
Jessica for messing up the choreography.
Tiffany collapsed to the ground, entirely exhausted. Sooyoung and Yoona sat down beside her, fanning
themselves with a hand. With their comeback arriving very soon, the girls worked twice as hard as
before, often resulting in weight losses, dark circles and worn-out bodies.
The only person that seemed to be shining was Jessica (no, she wasn't just shining, she was twinkling.)
"Fany, you tired out already? It's only been three rounds, you know?"
"I haven't been working out lately," She panted, trying to get more oxygen.

19 | P a g e

"You are so screwed today. Taeyeon said we'd be doing this the whole day," Yoona checked her watch,
"And it's only morning."
"I know," Tiffany groaned.
"Hey, look," Sooyoung tilted her head towards Jessica.
The trio watched as Jessica continued the choreography, eyes locked on the mirror, staring at her own
reflection. It wasn't like they didn't notice. Of course they did. Jessica's movements were more cohesive
now, the tighter actions flowing smoothly with far more precision. Her voice was less nasal, more
powerful than before.
Soon, Jessica's eyes trailed towards Tiffany, watching Tiffany through the mirror.
Jessica never looked away.
(Watch me, Tiffany.)
The eye contact was challenging, mocking even.
Unfortunately, the eye contact only lasted for a mere 10 seconds. Tiffany bit her lower lip and looked
away, admitting her defeat. She got up and dusted the back of her pants.
"It's too cold in here, I need to warm up," She announced.
The rest of the girls looked at her in bewilderment. They had just finished 4 rounds of dancing.
How could it possibly be cold?
***
7.) We Are Lovers
That night, Tiffany confronted Jessica (only after pacing around outside her room for a good 10 minutes.)
"It's you," That was the first thing Jessica spat said when Tiffany entered her room.
She was on her bed, phone in hand, seemingly sending a text message to someone. The room was dark,
save for the light coming from Jessica's phone. It was night and Tiffany swore she saw Vega from the
corner of her eye.
"Witch, you don't need to say such words. My heart hurts," Tiffany placed a hand on her heart,
pretending to hurt.
The action only fuelled Jessica's anger. She got up from the bed and threw her phone on it. Folding her
arms, she stood on one leg, a frown on her face.
"What do you want? I thought I was a waste of your time anyway," She hissed through gritted teeth.
20 | P a g e

"Witch, you glaring at me hurts. You're so cold now. You used to be warm," Tiffany plastered a grin on
her face.
"You liar. You sarcastic bitch," She spat (words that she didn't mean.)
"Oh, and thanks for the birthday present."
"Oh god, you invaded my room?"
Jessica ran her hands through her hair, pacing up and down, shouting curses at Tiffany. There was no
end to her incoherent curses. Tiffany grabbed Jessica's arm and yanked it towards herself. Her eyes met
Jessica's. Jessica's reflected doubt, disappointment, anger and worry. All those swirled up in a dangerous
cocktail of emotions.
Jessica couldn't help the tears escaping her eyes. She was weak, with Tiffany's gaze on her, she was
helpless. All her defenses destroyed by Tiffany's gaze. She tried not to be needy, didn't want to be needy.
After all, she loved a heartless monster, a heartless monster who seeked pleasure in her embarrassment,
her anger, her misery. A heartless monster who never really cared about her in the first place.
A heartless monster who could never love her.
"I hate you. I hate you so, so much. I really, really hate you," She cried, trying so hard to stop her tears.
Tiffany winced inwardly at Jessica's words. Seeing her cry was Tiffany's greatest weakness.
"But I love you, witch."
She stiffened and lifted her head to look at Tiffany. There was a soft smile on Tiffany's face, unlike the
usual grins or lopsided smiles plastered on her face.
"Then what are we, really?" She asked, voice a little hoarse from crying.
"Lovers, witch. Lovers."

Epilogue
Taeyeon cringes when she spots Tiffany nibbling on Jessica's ear. Taeyeon has gotten used to it, that girl
between girl kind of relationship, after all, she was in love with Tiffany. It's not the fact that Jessica and
Tiffany are in love that makes her cringe. It's how cheesy they are and how loud they can be (Taeyeon
remembers hearing them quarreling, screaming and shouting, in their room. But only after a mere five
minutes, she heard a moan.) Taeyeon knows that Tiffany and Jessica has this sort of love-hate
relationship. The love and yet, anger towards each other fuels their relationship, keeps the fire between
them raging. Taeyeon figures that it isn't very healthy, but at least it keeps the dorm peaceful (no, not
really.)

21 | P a g e

At least, that's what Taeyeon is thinking when she sees Jessica pulling Tiffany into their room. Taeyeon
turns up the volume of the television immediately. There are times when the noise that comes from
their room is louder than the television.
Taeyeon lets a soft smile grace her features. She envies Jessica, being able to have Tiffany's love.
Taeyeon isn't stupid; she knows that she has never had Tiffany's love in the first place. She was too
desperate, hanging on to something she never had. For Tiffany, it has always been Jessica, Jessica and
Jessica. Only Jessica could make Tiffany angry. Only Jessica could make Tiffany sad. And only Jessica
could make Tiffany happy.
But don't get Taeyeon wrong; she's over it already. She has moved on. How could she not move on
when there's already someone else making her heart thump like how Tiffany used to? She's happy, for
both Jessica and Tiffany. Jessica had been her best friend after all.
And when Taeyeon hears the shouts coming from Jeti's room, she exhales loudly. There they go again.
"Stupid Tiffany! You ruined my shirt! It says here 'Hand wash only'! You can't just throw it into the
washing machine like that! God!"
"Damn it, you witch, just shut up and kiss me already!"
Taeyeon cups her ears, knowing what will probably happen next. She clicks her tongue in disapproval,
only to hear a certain someone approaching her.
"Taeyeon? It's late already."
"I know, Sooyoung. But those two are way too noisy," She complains, wishing her heart would steady
instead.
"I know right, let's just watch tv. Aish, those two. Never knowing when to stop. I really shouldn't have
approved of their relationship," Sooyoung plops down on the sofa beside her.
Taeyeon nods.
And all through the night, she tries to ignore the noises; She also desperately tries to calm her thumping
heart (but it doesn't stop racing, not when Sooyoung's right next to her.)
***
Yoona cringes, too, when it is Christmas and Jessica and Tiffany are being too cuddly on the couch. They
had just done present exchange and Yoona got a present from Yuri, it was a massager and Yuri had said
that the members were complaining of backache. Yoona's present had ended up in Hyoyeon's hands.
She put a lot of effort into the present (since she is still single and all) and it showed on Hyoyeon's face
in the form of a smile. Hyoyeon had thanked her, saying, "Aw, Yoona, thanks. It's what we all need,
letters and polaroids."

22 | P a g e

(Before Jessica and Tiffany actually started their cuddling session, they got each others' presents and
were fighting because they were either too cheap or too expensive. Really, the cheap one was from
Tiffany and the expensive one was from Jessica.)
Yoona likes seeing Jessica and Tiffany happy. (Especially after that day when she had a movie marathon
with Sunny and she watched those two have a silent confrontation. It was scary and Yoona definitely
doesn't want to experience it again.)
Yoona envies them, being so happy and in love. She only wishes that she'll fall in love with someone
someday too.
***
It is still Christmas. Yuri glances at Yoona watching Jessica and Tiffany. Yes, Jessica and Tiffany have
been way too obvious that they're a couple. Yuri thinks that they should tone the skinship down a little
because if fans notice the excessive amount of skinship and found out their relationship, they are so
screwed.
Yuri sees the envy in Yoona's eyes and sighs. She has been way too obvious with her dropping of hints
and the other members (Hyoyeon, especially) have been teasing her about it already (even jeti!)
("Damn it, Yuri, stop being so darn obvious," Tiffany slapped Yuri's arm.
"Well, not like Yoona notices anyway," Hyoyeon chirped, sharing a bag of chips with Sooyoung.
"Just confess to her already! Christmas is coming. Kiss under the mistletoe!" Jessica said excitedly.
Yuri had mentally face-palmed herself because 1.) She had stupid members. 2.) Yoona was way too
unobservant.)
Yuri inhales, taking a deep breath before making her way to Yoona and dragging her out of the house.
(She doesn't miss the smirk Tiffany gives, the fighting Jessica mouths, or the wolf-whistle from Hyoyeon.)
***
Sometimes, Sunny realizes how hard it is for Tiffany to keep her hands off Jessica. They've missed too
much being apart and are only trying to make up for lost time. But they do have all the time in the world
and even Sunny gets a little weirded out when Tiffany becomes weak and soft with Jessica.
("Tiff, I want some ice cream."
"Get it yourself, witch."
"I hate that you call me that. Seriously, Tiff?"
Jessica looked at Tiffany with puppy eyes, pouting a little and Tiffany just couldn't resist.

23 | P a g e

"Okay, okay, I'll buy it for you, Jessi. Flavour?"

"Strawberry. It's pink, like your lips."
Tiffany blushed and a high-pitched shriek could be heard from Sunny because this was way too weird.)
***
Even though Sooyoung has been a total bitch to Jessica (she admits it and has apologized to Jessica),
she's probably the only one who actually sees beyond the love-hate relationship Jessica and Tiffany
share. She's chanced upon an intimate moment before.
("Tiff, I can't do this anymore. I can't."
"Jessi, it's okay. Everything's going to turn out fine. You'll be alright. You're amazing."
"But I'm afraid I'll mess it up," Jessica cried into Tiffany's shoulder and Tiffany just held her closer,
tighter.
"You won't. You don't have to be perfect, Jessi."
"Tiff, I'm scared. I don't really want a solo stage anymore. The concert's too long and a solo stage is
terrifying."
"Stupid girl. You're worrying for nothing. You'll do amazing as always, okay? Even if you don't trust
yourself, at least trust me, Jessi.")
And then Sooyoung realizes that it is during these intimate moments that Tiffany's walls are down and
she's bare for Jessica. It is only during these moments that Tiffany calls Jessica, 'Jessi'.
***
Jessica's glad that Tiffany's always behind, supporting her through rough times. There are still times
when Tiffany's a little cold but she's getting warmer now, Jessica knows. Jessica knows it when Tiffany
takes off her jacket, only to put it around Jessica's shoulders. Jessica knows it when Tiffany does
anything she says when Jessica puts on her pout. Jessica knows it when Tiffany starts to keep Jessica
close, especially during concerts and Jessica's a little too stressed up.
And Jessica knows it now when Tiffany starts to call her differently.
"Jessi!"
"Sica!"
"J!" (And then Jessica calls Tiffany 'T' at times like this.)
There's no witch anymore. Tiffany doesn't notice the change in the way she calls Jessica and Jessica
doesn't tell her either.
24 | P a g e

(Each time Tiffany calls Jessica, Jessica giggles in response and walks away, humming a song, leaving a
very confused Tiffany behind her.)
(But Jessica lets Tiffany catch up to her.)
("Hey, Tiff?"
"What, Jessi?"
Jessica giggles.
"I love you."
"Mhmm. And I love you too.")

Epilogue II (Snippet of Jeti from Krystals perspective)
Jessica is nervous. Tiffany isn't. (It really should be the other way round.)
After tons of comforting words from Tiffany, Jessica finally decides to knock.
("Jessi, hurry up."
"I'm scared. What if Krystal doesn't like you?"
"Please, who wouldn't like me?"
"I don't know, everyone except me?"
"Just open the door, Jessi. I'm right beside you. I should be the one who's scared, not you."
"I'm getting scared on behalf of you."
"I love your humor, Jessi. Now knock.")
When Jessica and Tiffany knock on the Jung's door, it is Krystal who opens it. Krystal frowns, eyebrows
knitted together because what is Tiffany doing here? And then she sees Tiffany's arm around Jessica's
waist, settled there a bit too intimately. (And she also sees the grins that both of them are wearing, one
that just screams happiness.)
"Oh my god, you guys are together?"
Jessica can only bite her lip and look away shyly while Tiffany only holds Jessica closer.
"Yes. This woman is mine," Tiffany says playfully.
"I'm so glad you guys are together."
25 | P a g e

Jessica catches Krystal's wrist.

"Wait, so you knew what was going on? ...But I never told you."
"Come on, sis. I have people who tell me what's going on with my sister. People like Yoona and Sunny.
And I know about the silent confrontation in the living room with Tiffany staring at her macbook and you
silently counting down from 10."
Both Jessica and Tiffany exchange glances.
They are so going to kill Yoona and Sunny after this.
***
Just after dinner, Jessica pulls Tiffany to her room hurriedly, earning side-way glances from Krystal.
"Sis, you guys better be down for supper."
"When?"
"Supper's at 10," Krystal calls but she only hears the door slam as a reply.
She sighs.
What is she going to do with these two?
***
When it is 10:20pm and neither Tiffany nor Jessica can be seen in the living room, Krystal exhales,
shaking her head. She knocks on Jessica's door (three times but there's no reply.)
So she tries the doorknob, only to find it unlocked. She opens it a little, calling for her sister.
"...Sis?"
She's greeted by two sleeping figures on Jessica's bed. Tiffany with her arms around Jessica, and Jessica
snuggling into Tiffany.
Krystal lets a soft smile grace her features because there's only one word to describe the two of them.
Content.
(There are smiles on both their faces and it's almost as if there's no place for them other than in each
others' arms.)
Krystal's glad that she can finally see her sister happy.
Not wanting to disturb them, she closes the door and makes her way to the living room, fishing her
phone out from the back pocket of her jeans. She dials a number and waits for the line to connect.
26 | P a g e

"Hey, Myungsoo?"
"Soojung? What's up?"
"Can I come over? I'm feeling a little bit lonely and envious?"
She hears a chuckle over the other end.
"Envious? Why?"
"My sister has found true love."
"There's no need for you to be envious, Soojung."
"I know. I'll be over in 5, I think."
"Want me to pick you up?"
"No, it's okay. Love you. Bye."
Really, there's no need for her to be envious at all.
