Gina screamed. It was as if her voice would tear down the room. She had been crying for hours, and her head hurt. She balled up and cried some more. She was alone in the room, but her best friend was coming soon. Gina shook her head; the whole thing was not playing well in her head. She knew two things, though. One was that she hated this country, and two was that she was never going to let any bastard touch her again. She was sure of the second one, like hell, she was sure.
She sniffed. Her body was trembling with anger and hurt and helplessness. That was the problem with college; it was a system where the person who was being offended could do nothing. She was as powerless as a mop. She could do nothing but sulk and cry and curse and swear on those responsible.
There was a knock on her door. Then another and her best friend’s voice. She half wanted to be alone, and half wanted to see Ava. Ava was the only one she liked because she said things as they were, and she wasn’t full of bullshit like the rest of the students who were like wolves in sheep’s clothing. She struggled to get up from the bed and sniffled and then staggered to the door. She didn’t have any roommate, and that was one of the best parts of her life here. She wouldn’t have wanted to answer questions from a nosy roommate.
Oh, baby,
Ava said when the door opened. She had cat eyes that opened more when she felt bad or hurt. Her lips were thin, but the bottom lip was a bit full that it looked tempting when she left it slightly opened. She walked into the room as Gina walked back to bed. She was speechless, Gina could tell. Usually, Ava was a chatterbox. The girl could talk for the whole student body, and she’d still be on it at night. But she was quiet. They sat down for a while, and then Gina started crying again.
Ava didn’t need to ask any questions. Gina wanted her to ask, but she knew Ava a little bit, and she knew her friend would wait. That was one of the things she had learned in this new country. They were shitty, but they respected other people’s grief. She dragged her nose a bit and then laid down on her small student bed, Ava got in and cuddled her. They were like that, silent but feeling each other’s presence for a while.
He is a piece of shit, Gina,
Ava said, and Gina nodded. Ava was talking about Tony
