    What We Are Up to

    Language Arts: Last week we started our first


    lesson of the year! We read a humorous fiction
    story called A Fine, Fine School. Student worked
    on review the story structure. We talked about
    how the characters, setting, and plot all part of
    the story structure. We introduced the idea of a
    personal narrative and brainstormed what topics
    we will be exploring for the next four weeks.
    Student sharpened their writing skills by
    practicing writing a descriptive paragraph about
    their favorite place.
    Math: We began our first chapter in Math! We
    reviewed concepts from last year and explored
    our student reference books. We than began to
    discuss how to round numbers using an open
    number line. Students also completed their first
    time test! Continue to practice math facts at
    home nightly.
    Science: Students started to read Chapter 2 of
    our science book. We are learning about
    animals traits and their life cycles. Students
    created posters to help introduce the chapters
    vocabulary words and then worked in small
    groups on Friday to make backbone
    models.
    Religion: We started this year by learning
    part of the Apostles Creed. We also
    reflected about all of Gods creations and
    thought of ways we can give praise to
    them.

    Remember that Reading Logs will be due on


    Friday. Students must have read at least 60
    minutes total over the course of a week.
    Book Orders will be due September 30, 2016
    Birthday Treats: Students are not allowed to bring
    in food on their birthday but may bring in other
    treats such as pencils that will be passed out at
    the end of the day.
    Picture Day is September 12, 2016.
