I.
OBJECTIVE
Define and describe eclipse and its two kinds (Solar and Lunar)
Draw a portrait to illustrate the position of Sun, Moon, and Earth during
solar and lunar eclipse.
Promote the safety measures during a solar eclipse
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Eclipses
B. References: Science for daily use 4 pp. 246 - 249
C. Science Concept/s:
During a new moon, the moon blocks the light from the sun and
forms a shadow on earth. This is a solar eclipse
During a full moon, Earth blocks the light from the sun and forms a
shadow on the moon. This is a lunar eclipse.
D. Processes: Identifying, Describing, Communicating
E. Materials: Visual aids, Cut-outs, Video Clips, Activity Sheets, globe,
flashlights, ball, drawing materials.
F. Value Infusion: Safety Measures during a solar eclipse
III. PROCEDURES
A. Guided Inquiry
1. Review
Teacher
Pupils
Stand up class and let us pray
Amen.
Very good!
What do you call when the lighted side gets smaller
during the change of full moon to the new moon?
Very good!
How about when the lighted side gets smaller during
the change of new moon to the full moon?
Very well!
2. Motivation
Before we proceed to our next lesson, we will play
a game first. I will divide you into two groups. This
(Pupils listen)
will be the group one and this will be the group two.
I will give both groups a puzzle that you are going
to solve. The first group that will finish the task will
win the game.
Is that clear?
Yes, it is
Very well!
I will now distribute to you the materials
(teacher distribute the materials)
At the count of 3 the game will start
1,2,3!
(Game Proper)
(Game Proper)
(Pupils Clap)
Very Good!
3. Science Vocabulary
What do you think is being portrayed by the
Illustration you formed in the game?
(Pupils answer)
Alright!
Let us see if you are correct as we watch this
Video clip
Lets watch this video clip.
(Film viewing)
(Pupils watch)
It is a solar eclipse.
Very well!
Lets learn more about eclipses on our next activity.
4. Presentation
a. Presentation of materials
I will group you into two. The first group will work the
activity for solar eclipse and the other group will work
for the lunar eclipse. You will have a flashlight,
globe, small ball as materials for the activity.
b. Statement of the problem
Our main problem in this activity is
What happens during the eclipse?
Again, What is our main problem in this activity?
Very good!
c. Setting of standards
This will be the solar eclipse group and this will
be the lunar eclipse group.
This activity has time allotment of five minutes
You need to exercise coopertion within the
Group as you do the activity.
You may talk to your groupmates but not
too loud
Is that clear?
Alright!
d. Distribution of Activity Card
I am now going to distribute the activilty
sheet to you.
Read carefully the instructions and answer the
following questions completely.
B. Guided Exploration
1. Activity Proper
Yes Maam!
Very good!
2. Analysis
Did Earth (globe) get lighted from the sun? why?
What was formed when the light from the sun was
blocked?
Solar Eclipse
Very good!
How about in lunar eclipse? What blocked the light
from the sun?
Shadow
In the moon
Lunar Eclipse
Very good!
C. Guided Discovery
1. Generalization
Therefore, what is an eclipse?
2. Application
In our next activity, I will group you into two groups.
Yes, it is
(Activity Proper)
Times up
Leaders, present your work
(Presentation by the leaders)
Very Good!
3. Valuing
Is it safe to look at the sun directly during solar
Eclipse.
No.
EVALUATION
Yes, we are
Very Good!
Count the number of correct answers.
How many 10, 9, . . . . 0?
Very Good!
V. ASSIGNMENT
For your assignment
(teacher posts the assignment)
Will you please read ?
Draw the model of solar and lunar eclipse and
describe the process.
(pupils read)
Is that clear?
Yes, it is
Very good
Lets stand up and pray!
Amen
Goodbye class!
