1. How long will it take for a radar wave to travel one nautical mile?
2. A radar is to have a maximum range of 60 kilometers. What is the maximum allowable pulse repetition
frequency for unambiguous reception?
2500 pps
3. A radar pulse was transmitted and after 150 microseconds, an echo pulse was received. Determine the
target distance in:
(a) statute miles
(c) yards.
4. A radar transmitter has a peak pulse power of 400 kW, a PRF of 1500 pps, and a pulse width of 0.8
microseconds. Calculate
(a) maximum unambiguous range

5. An L-band radar operating at 1.25 GHz uses a peak pulse power of 3 megawatts, and must have a range of
100 nautical miles (165.2 km) for objects whose radar cross section is 1 square meter. If the minimum
receivable power of the receiver is 2 x 10 -13 watt, what is the smallest diameter of the antenna reflector
could have assuming it to be a full paraboloid with k= 0.65?
3.84 m
6. A low-power, short-range radar uses semiconductor throughout, including a tunnel-diode RF amplifier which
gives it an overall noise figure of 4.77 dB. If the antenna diameter is 1 meter, the IF bandwidth is 500 kHz,
the operating frequency is 8 GHz and the radar set is supposed to be capable of detecting targets of 5
square meters cross sectional area at a maximum distance of 12 km, what must be the peak transmitted
power?
1.1 W
7. The noise figure of a radar receiver is 12 dB, and its bandwidth is 2.5 MHz. What is the value of P min for this
radar?
1.48 x 10-13 W
8. A missile tracking radar operates at 5 GHz, with a 1 megawatt peak power output. If the antenna diameter is
3.66 meters, and the receiver has a bandwidth of 1.6 MHz and an 11-dB noise figure, what is its maximum
detection range for 1 sq. m. targets?
345.6 km
9. In a pulse radar systems, the target is 4 miles away and 45 degrees to the right. Show target on B-scan.
Also compute the echo time in microseconds.

10. A CW Doppler radar operates at a wavelength of 3 cm. What is the Doppler frequency produced
(a) by an airplane flying at a speed of 200 miles per hour
11. Am 8-GHz police radar measures a Doppler frequency of 1500 Hz, from a car approaching the stationary
police vehicle, in a 75-km/hr speed limit zone. Will the police apprehend the car for over speeding?
12. An MTI radar operating at a wavelength of 10 cm has a pulse repetition frequency of 1000 cycles. Calculate
the two lowest blind speeds.
13. From the instant that a radar wave leaves the antenna of an FM radar, it takes about 124 microseconds
before an echo pulse is received. Estimate the distance of the target in nautical miles.

14.A transponder is so coded that when interrogated it responds immediately with a short pulse followed by two
additional short pulses delayed in time by 10 and 20 microseconds, respectively. What will the response of
this transponder look like on a PPI display?
