DECA WILDCATS STATE BOUND!


The Woodrow Wilson DECA Club (an association of Marketing Students - See DECA.org or Texas DECA.org for more information) attended and
competed in The Texas District 7 Career Development Conference at the Westin Park Central Hotel in Dallas Feb 5 and 6. Sponsor Tom Crabb is
proud to report that 6 Woodrow Deca Members won in their categories to move on to the State competition to be held in Ft. Worth on Feb 19-21,
2010 at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. The six Texas State qualifiers are: Raul Bedolla in Technical Sales, Max Castillo and Courtney Salinas in
Principles of Marketing, Claudia Sanchez and David Silva in Marketing Management, and Evelyn De Jesus in Sports and Entertainment Marketing.
Congratulations to these wonderful students who worked so hard to achieve this level of Competence. Also representing Woodrow well and
looking good at the District Conference were: Diego Avila in Hotel and Lodging Management, Nicholas Damian, Jessica Martinez, Yesel
Guiterrez, Moises Acosta, Anna Reynosa, and Rebecca Hidrogo in Travel and Tourism Marketing Management Team, John Fielder and Jesus
Hernandez in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Antonio Guerrero and Elizabeth Ibarra in Buying and Merchandising Management Team,
Yasmin Villalobos in Principles of Hospitality and Tourism. Also, Mr. Crabb would like to thank volunteer teacher chaperones Ms. Meshell Bradley
and Mr. Kerry Harvey for their wonderful help in making this a great event for these students.

JAVIER ESTRADA IS THE DISTRICT CHAMPION! CHESS TEAM COMPETES IN DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP
WRESTLING TEAM WINS 4TH PLACE AT
Woodrow’s chess team traveled to Carter High School on Saturday, February
DISTRICT 6th to compete in the DISD High School Chess Championship. At stake was a

WILDCAT BASKETBALL
The Wildcats beat Thomas Jefferson 102-38, Conrad 52-40, and Bryan Adams
84-51.

The Lady Wildcats won against Thomas Jefferson 51-14, but lost to Conrad 41-
45 in games played last week. The Lady Wildcat Varsity Basketball team has
qualified for the post-season playoffs. The Bi-District game will be held on
Monday, February 15, 2010, at Sprague Fieldhouse against Carter High School
at 7:30. In making the playoffs, the Lady Wildcats also won a total of 18
games. Those total wins have been the most wins in about 25 years.
These ladies have done a tremendous job. Thank you very much, Coach Bustos

WOODROW UNIFORM DONATIONS NEEDED!

Clean out your closets and bring your gently-used Woodrow school uniform
items to the Principal's Office so they can be distributed to those in need. Belts,
jackets and school-appropriate jeans are especially wanted.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY


The Bank of America Student Leadership program—designed for exemplary high school juniors
and seniors who have a passion for improving their communities—is accepting applications for
summer internships. The eight-week paid internship gives students a chance to work with select
nonprofit organizations, and the interns also go on a week-long, all-expense paid trip to the
Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in the summer. Applications are available
at bankofamerica.com/neistudentleaders, and the deadline is Wednesday, February 17.
COLLEGE VISIT TO UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS - DALLAS
Dear Woodrow Seniors, Staff and Teachers,
We have an opportunity to take 20 seniors to University of North Texas-Dallas on Wednesday, February 17, 2010. Transportation will
be provided to and from the university. Keep in mind that this event is after school and we will depart from Woodrow at 3:45pm.
Students will head to the bus directly after school. Food will be provided. Woodrow was among the selected EIF high schools to have

State Fair of Texas Scholarship applications are now online and can be downloaded
FOR JUNIORS

IN TOP 25% OF CLASS applications are provided – one document can be filled in; the other is printable and
can be completed by hand.
Eligible high school seniors should note that these scholarships are for in-
state schools only. NO OUT-OF-STATE scholarships are offered by the State Fair of
Texas. Each recipient receives a total of $5,000 in scholarships, renewable in $1,250
annual increments to those who maintain a 3.0 GPA toward their college degree at a
Visit Texas A&M University. Two Texas university and/or community college. For the 2009-10 school year, the
charter buses will take students and a program renewed $1,250 scholarships to 25 DISD graduates who are making

WHITE ROCK BOATHOUSE JUNIORS - ROWING FOR DALLAS AREA TEENS

White Rock Boathouse Juniors currently recruiting for the Spring Season. We are looking for 7th - 12th graders who are looking for a spring or
fall sport. The Juniors Team is looking for athletes of all shapes and sizes to join our growing team and compete this spring all over Texas and
Oklahoma. This is the perfect sport even if you have never been part of an athletic team before. There is absolutely no experience necessary
to be part of our team, just a desire to become faster and have a great time on the water.
Scholarships available for those who qualify. We will not turn away anyone that wants to row but may not be able to afford it. We strive to
have rowing available for every teen that wants to be part of our team. Hurry before registration ends on February 15, 2010. More

STUDENT AND PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

JL Long is hosting the TMSCA Math/Science competition on Saturday, February


20th. We are anticipating close to 500 students from the Dallas/Fort Worth
area coming to Long to compete in the event. Several volunteers are still
needed, particularly to proctor exams, from 8:15 to 12:15 that morning.
Woodrow students can get service hours for volunteering. If you are willing to

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS


VOLUNTEER AT SATURDAY SCHOOL AT JL LONG
JL Long is starting Saturday school this Saturday (the 13th) from 830 to 1200. They are asking for any
Woodrow kids who would like to help i.e. tutoring, monitoring kids on computer etc. Ms Lopez is in charge of
volunteers and will coordinate this. If you are interested in helping, you can contact her at Long or me at 214-
215-2436. There will not be Saturday school on the 20th of February as there will be a Math/Science
competition at Long.
