CALLAO CAVES
Cagayan - Region 2 Cagayan Valley
Once used as a camp by Japanese Occupational Forces during World War
II, these astonishing Callao caves are located about 20 to 30 minutes ride
from Tuguegarao City.
One of the most popular tourist attraction in Cagayan Valley, it is situated
within the Peablanca Protected Landscape in Cagayan.
These caves have seven chambers which offer visitors a good view of the
massive limestone and other rock formations that run through a great
length of the Pinacanauan River. The stalactites and stalagmites in the
deeper chambers will also leave every tourist in awe.
Lighting wont be a big deal when visiting the caves as the supposed dark
areas are illuminated by the light passing through the natural crevices
found in every chamber. A very significant accentuation among the seven
chambers is the presence of a stone altar illuminated by natural skylight,
producing an eerie catacomb-like atmosphere.
Also a treat is the spectacle of red-billed kalaw birds and daily charge of
bats at dusk when millions pour out of the Bats Cave.

Do you want to feel lucky?
Then take a tour inside this pristine cave called the Jackpot Cave.
Situated at Sitio Tumallo, Barangay Quibal, Peablanca, this cave is the
second deepest cave in the Philippines, next to the trio of SumagingLatipan-Lumiang crystal caves.
With an impressive depth of 115 meters, you can encounter walking size
passages, shafts and drops of varying depths that can provide wide
varieties of rope work. Meandering streams and pools of different sizes
can be found inside the cave that you can play in. The trio of SumagingLatipan-Lumiang crystal caves is 163 meters deep.
Before you reach this wonderful piece of nature, you can first quench your
thirst for hiking adventures with a 560-meter trek to the base of the
mountain before challenging a climb with an elevation of 100 meters.
There are two cave openings leading you to both the eastern part and west
side of the cave. But most visitors take the west entrance because they

BIAK-NA-BATO CAVE
Bulacan
Region 3 Central Luzon
Of all the caves in the Philippines, perhaps one of the more famous is the
Biak-na-Bato cave in Bulacan.
For one, Biak-na-Bato is a historical site that has been witness to the
ever-changing political landscape of the Philippines. It is the same spot
where the Biak-na-Bato Republic was established.
This monstrous boulder that was split by unknown reason served as the
mountain hideout of the revolutionary forces during the Spanish regime.
This same boulder is also where Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo and Pedro Paterno
signed the Malolos Constitution.
But beyond its historical essence are the majestic and marvelous features
that never fail to satisfy visitors coming from different places.
It offers a lot scintillating rock formation. Hanging bridges and staircases
connecting rivers and caves are also a must-see in this area.

SIBATIYA CAVE
Quezon
Region 4A CALABARZON
Site/Facility Profile
Known by local folks as Bayawak, Sibatiya Cave rests on a mountain
known as Halimaw.
Though the caves local name and location sound creepy, this place is
none of the horrible things you could imagine.
In fact, a visit on this piece of land situated at the center of the Pagbilao
Grande Island, Pagbilao, Quezon, will give you an exhausting yet thrilling
and wonderful adventure.
One of about 75 caves resting in this area, Sibatiya got its name from the
basins of water which used to be seen before it has been explored and
exploited for bat shit (guano), which is now used by many as a natural
fertilizer.
The cave is 320 meters deep, thus extra care is needed for visitors. So
deep is the cave that the length of four rolls of electric wire has been used
to illuminate its passages using generators.
It has two mouths, the east and west mouths. The east mouth offers a
marvelous view of the Pagbilao town proper and Mount Banahaw but the
lush vegetation prevents an unobstructed snap.
On the other side, a splendid view of the Pagbilao Chico Island with the
famous Tulay Buhangin will greet tourists. The west mouth is manmade, excavated for the convenience of the guano "boys."
Despite the obvious exploitation of people, the crystalline stalactites and
stalagmites still never fail to amuse tourists. You can look for those
monstrous stalactite-stalagmite columns and take a fascinating souvenir
to keep for yourself.
Other stunning odd-shaped limestone formations could also be chanced
upon once inside this enthralling place. Basically, what was left from the
disappearance of the cave floors was a ravine that gives a breathtaking
view of the rock formations, including the famous Quipot bridge.
A visit to the Sibatiya Cave can be summarized to a combination of
exhaustion, excitement, thrill and awe all rolled into one.

Region 4A CALABARZON
Sungawan is a tagalog word that literally means windows.
Based on its name alone, you can actually picture the caves image in
your mind. Yes, this cave indeed has many holes serving as its multiple
windows.
Standing proud at Pagbilao, Quezon, this cave is usually visited by people
during the Lenten Season and sometimes serves as a picnic spot. An
uncrowded leisure spot, many pick this place to relax and unwind as the
water here provides a cold and refreshing ambiance.
You can access the cave by following the barangay road, which others
refer to as the Feeder Road. From the Barangay Hall of Brgy. Bigo, it will
take you 2.8 kilometers to reach the entrance of the cave.
Some people go to the cave by foot, but others by bike. Along the way,
you may view the Bangkatan River, whose water comes from the
Sungawan Cave itself.
The Bangkatan River becomes the Tambak River farther downstream and
wind its way around the eastern and southern outskirts of the Pagbilao
town proper.

DAGOHOY CAVE
Bohol
Region 7 Central Visayas
Dagohoy cave is
named
after
Francisco
Dagohoy,
a
patriot,
who
started
a
rebellion against
the
Spanish
regime
and
founded
a
movement
against them that
lasted until 1829.
It
could
be
inferred
from
these facts that
this
cave
has
played an important role in the Philippine history. This cave served as the
headquarters of Dagohoys movement during the uprising.
Located at the town of Danao, it is the most visited cave by local and
foreign tourists. One of its passages has an underwater route that leads to
a dry land. It is believed that this is the hiding place of the movement
when Spanish forces raid the cave.
Set in the middle of the huge and astonishing expanse of mountain
ranges in the municipality of Danao, Dagohoy cave is a five-kilometer
walk from Barangay Magtanghoy.
The doorway to the cave is a 17-meter drop to a labyrinth. Passages of the
cave are studded with crystals with a stream winding through it. An
underwater path leads to dry ground and the stream eventually flows out
towards the Wahig River which is 100 meters away.
Stalactites and stalagmites make the interior of this cave a stunning sight
to behold. A golden hue predominates when the walls are studded with
lighted lanterns or flashlights. Crystals seem to make the wall sparkle.

A 15-minute ride from the city proper will
bring you to the jungle path towards the cave.

takes notice of the limestone, he should be
