CHAIR Report (Averill)
-Traffic update: had a traffic safety day on Oct. 30th. This also will be happening at
other Dunbar schools. We seem to have tapped into some political will with respect
to our traffic. Confirmed that we will get speed bumps in 2015. We have been
added to C of V Traffic Planning (who will review everything about our traffic,
signage, survey, parking, bike rack locations, then provide recommendations and
implementations).
ICBC is now looking into getting us an LED speed sign of our ownCaroline from
Genesis will liaise with community policing regarding this sign and ICBC will
provide parent training.
-Cheryl is planning on holding a traffic meeting later this month, open to more
volunteers. Will plan a walk to school week for spring as well as other events.
-Liping will translate our traffic safety cards; James will speak to Mandarin-speaking
people to help

TREASURERS REPORT (Nicky McConnell)
-Everything on track in both revenues and expenses. The gaming grant is definitely

getting $4280)
OTHER BUSINESS (Averill)
-Playground committee: Andrea Shrive heading up playground committee, has
received 2 quotes so far. We are looking at around $50K before installation, and
without surfacing and boxes. Will need to add at least another 25% for that. We
have $10K set aside for this from last year.
Normally every year we put out a direct appeal for general PAC revenue at this time
of year, donations get tax receipt. This year the question is should we aim the direct
appeal at the playground specifically???
QUESTION: what will we get for $50K? ANSWER: one is from the same vendor
weve used previously and can attach to the existing pieces (platforms, double slides,
disc swings). COMMENT: 50K is too much for a piece of playground equipment,
would like to see this kind of money going to technology, etc. Southlands has lots of
space, this is a privilege, dont need to spend another $50 K on playground
equipment.
QUESTION: what is the communitys contribution? They use the playground too.
ANSWER: Andrea is looking for community funding. We dont know yet how much
we can get in this way.
QUESTIONS: Can we poll the parents and students about whether or not they are
missing the equipment? Maybe no one cares? This piece was for the younger kids.

Can we consider a natural playground? This may work well for younger kids.
ANSWER: Andrea now has link and we can look at this too. Playground decisions
will come to PAC as a whole.
QUESTION TO PAC (Averill): Should we leave the direct donation as-is, or make it
specific to playground?
VOTE: Leave the direct donation as-is, then if we need more money, we can do a
direct drive for playground in the spring. All in favor? Unanimous.
Yearbook Coordinator: We need one! We will put a note on the PAC board for this.
Read-A-Thon: Dates: Last two weeks of January. Theres only one Pro-D day, and
one assembly during that time. The draw would be the first week of February.
Next meeting is December 2, 2014 at 7 pm, Southlands Library.
