PRESSURE TEST SYSTEM HYDROSTATIC TEST

01.1

01.2

A Piping system shall be hydrostatic tested as a

unit unless the difference among their design
pressures exceeds 15% of the lowest design
pressure of the system components. The test
pressure in the system shall be equal to the test
pressure
applied to the system component of
which, the design pressure is the
lowest
among the system. Generally vessels, exchangers
and like
equipment are shop tested and it is
excluded from the piping hydrostatic test.
TEST
PREPARATIONS
:
The
following
components shall be completely isolate from the
system and this is to prevent severe mechanical
damages.

01.02.01

Rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors

and turbines.

01.02.02

Safety valves, rapture discs, flame arrestor, steam

traps etc.

01.02.03

Pressure vessels , Storage Tank.

01.02.04

Equipment and piping lined with refractoriness.

01.02.08

Instrument such as control valves, pressure

gauges
(other than Hydro testing system),
level gauges and flow meters.

01.02.09

Pipe line, that is not allowing the hydrostatic test,

according to the process requirements.
EXCLUSIONS

01.3
01.03.01

Any package unit previously tested by the

manufacturer in accordance with the applicable
codes.

01.03.02

Plumbing systems, which are tested in accordance

with the applicable plumbing code.

01.03.03

Lines and systems, which are open to the

atmosphere such as drains, vents, item discharge
of relief valve and atmospheric sewers open.

01.03.04

Instrument impulse lines between the block valve

at the process or utility line and the connected
instrument.

01.03.04

In the branch reinforcing pads, leak testing and

pneumatic testing shall be applied where specified
by contractor. The sub contractor shall test all
field installed reinforcing pads with clean dry air at
0.36 bar (5psi). All welds surfaces on the out side
shall be swabbed with a leak testing solution.
After testing is complete, the vent hole shall be
plugged with grease or with contractors approved
plastic plugs. The sub contractor shall submit the
record of all reinforcing test with test packages
document. This shall be part of test package from
where ever applicable.

01.04 Any vents or by passes down stream of the instrument

is first block valves shall be gauged or the
instrument shall be disconnected during the test
to ensure full protection of that instrument.
01.05 The test shall be hydrostatic using water except if there
is a possibility of damage due to freezing or if the
operating fluid or piping material would be
adversely by effected by water. Any other suitable
liquid shall be used with owners approval.

02.00

TEST WATER CRITERIA

02.01 Care shall be taken to ensure the use of clean water for
hydrostatic test. The sea water is prohibited to
being used.

02.02 Water shall be used as general test fluid. In special case
as per line list air can be used as a test medium.
These cases generally relate to large bore pipe.
02.03 Clean water, with a chloride content of less than or
equal to 250pm shall be used to hydrostatic test
whilst water with a chloride content of less than or
equal to 30ppm shall be used for circuit or
individual lines of stainless steel before starting of
hydrostatic test water certificate will be submitted
to S. D. consequently, every months, supplied
water sample will be sent to approved laboratory
to confirm the chloride content, whenever
required by the client.
02.04 The minimum water temperature during the hydrostatic
testing shall be ambient temperature.
03.00

APPLICATION OR PRESSURE
03.01 NCC shall put the circuit or line to be tested under
pressure by venting, in case of a hydrostatic test.
Any air, which may still be present in the circuit by
using
vent valves if provide or by partly
disconnecting connections in the top part of the
circuit if there are vent valves.
03.02 It must be remembered that, the test pressure shall only
be reached by the pressure gauge in the lowest
part of the circuit. Pressurising of system shall be
done in increment of 25% or as designed by the
employer at the time of testing.
