ORGANIZATION GUIDELINES Organizations can only receive one successful grant per two consecutive grant periods. For example, if an application in the fall grant period is funded in any amount, that organization is not eligible to receive another grant until at least the following fall. If a grant application is not funded, an organization may reapply with a similar or new application in the next grant period. Please plan your project and grant request accordingly. Also, any 501(c)3 organization serving DeKalb County must have a complete and up-to-date profile on the DeKalb County Nonprofit Directory (www.dekalbcountynonprofits.org) in order to receive a grant from the Community Foundation. Call the DCCF office with any questions. Additional Provisions Public School Districts Within public school districts, the above mentioned guideline applies to each school (or designated level) in the particular district. For example, each elementary, middle, and high school building (or grade levels if within the same building) is eligible to receive one grant per two grant periods. Higher Education On the Community College or University level, each department is eligible to receive one grant per two grant periods. Municipal Government Within municipal governments that serve DeKalb County, each department (i.e. police, fire) is eligible to receive one grant per two grant periods. PROJECTS GENERALLY NOT FUNDED While the Community Foundation remains flexible in trying to meet community needs, in general, Community Needs Grants are not made for: Operational phases of established programs Personnel and/or administrative costs associated with programs and projects Religious purposes (however, grants can be given to religious organizations for non-religious purposes, or facilities such as day-care centers that have non-profit status independent from a sponsoring church or religious organization) Purchase of advertising Capital or operation debt reduction Any political campaign or to support attempts to influence legislative issues of any government body Specific individuals APPLYING FOR A GRANT Organizations must submit a Community Needs Grant Application, available as a download from the website (www.dekalbcountyfoundation.org) or as a hard copy from the Foundation office. Please read the application carefully and submit all required attachments. Seven copies of the application are due at the DeKalb County Community Foundation office on or before March 1st for the Spring Community Needs Grant Period or September 1st for the Fall Community Needs Grant Period of each year. Grant decisions are generally made within two months of the deadline and applicants are notified in writing or by phone. DCCF staff and/or board members may contact applicants for further information. In addition, for complex grant requests, the Grants Committee may request a presentation by the applicant.
