property, Baytown, Texas On land originally owned by William Scott, this cemetery has
been associated with the cemetery at Point Pleasant

This seems doubtIul as the son,
GW Scott, sold 251 acres to J F Overland in 1848 with 100 acres oI the land then
passing to Mrs G M Mitchell in 1867, and in turn 17 acres went to James Mitchell in
1869, explaining the alternate names oI Overland Bay and Mitchell Bay The cemetery
plot oI 28 by 25 Ieet was conveyed in 1894 to Thomas and Hugh Arthur Two rows oI

31 BAYLAND ORPHANAGE CEMETERY Baytown TX The Orphanage was
Iounded Ior children oI deceased ConIederate soldiers, chartered in 1866 Texas patriot,
Dr Ashbel Smith (b 1805 CT 1886) was the Iirst superintendent, Iollowed by Henry
Flavel Gillette (b 1816 CT 1896) Historical Marker at the present-day site oI Bayland
Park oII HWY 146 at the mouth oI Goose Creek Stream A letter in the HMRC Iiles
Irom Louis van Meldert, Baytown, Texas, dated 25 May 1962 states 'there was also a
cemetery located nearby which has disappeared That statement is substantiated in
Suffer the Children. A History of the Confederate Orphanage at Bayland, 1867 to May
1918. The Isenhour Iamily Irom Minnesota purchased the property in 1897 From a
'List oI Orphans at the Home Irom its Establishment to the Present Time (1871) the
Iollowing are shown as having died while at the home No record has been uncovered
that these graves were moved, and now there is no visible evidence oI this little
graveyard 541E

the Iounding date oI the Church located on Ferry Road Cemetery is located to the
southeast oI the Church, with the oldest existing marker that oI Sarah E Scudder, 1850

Ior property in his wiIe`s name (Clarrisse Patching) and Jan 10, 1861 when Mrs Patching
made her mark on a deed with her daughter and son-in-law, David and Clarissa Drysdale
Patching and wiIe, Clarrisa, owned land in the Nathaniel Lynch League that was later
purchased by Q A Wooster Upon the death oI Wooster`s little son, Elmer, October 8,
1894 Q A Wooster mentions that they will bury Elmer next to 'the big slab, in what
would become the Wooster Family Cemetery

to New York, but Mrs Drysdale returned at least once to visit her Iather`s grave,
according to Iamily accounts



412 POINT PLEASANT CEMETERY: Family burial ground oI the William Scott
Iamily Land originally owned by Scott (organizer oI the Lynchburg Volunteers oI
Texas Revolutionary Iame), a member oI Austin`s 300 whose homestead, Point Pleasant,
was established prior to 1827 and located on Goose Creek between his upper and lower
leagues, near the present site oI the Exxon Docks It is probably that Scott (d 1837) and
his wiIe, Mary Hannah (d 1839) were both buried here, as probably was a nephew,
James S Scott, Jr who died in Goose Creek (1845) Jean La Delle Epperson, in her
unpublished manuscript on William Scott states 'a Iamily cemetery on Point Pleasant

but there are no tombstones and the cemetery`s exact location is now lost A son, G W
Scott sold 251 acres to J F Overland in 1848 with 100 acres oI the land then passing to
Mrs G M Mitchell in 1867, and in turn 17 acres went to James Mitchell in 1869, and
