This is an American cartoon, published by an

American newspaper. The purpose was to entertain

and explain the American view to the US population.
The cartoonist of this piece is unknown. One value of
this cartoon is that it describes the American view on
the whole attack on Pearl Harbor. On the other hand
this piece is very biased and one sided, because it
only shows how the Americans viewed the situation,
when in fact the Americans also triggered the attack
by placing an embargo on Japan. This is another
limitation of the cartoon, because in this case the
Japanese are represented as the villains, when in fact it was also partly Americas
fault. One value in this piece is that there is a lot of symbolism in this cartoon,
for example the bird represents the Japanese planes that attacked the harbour.
The title includes the word Axis dove, in World War Two the Axis powers were
Germany, Italy and Japan and the title reads lays its rotten egg, this is
supposed to mean that birds lay eggs and the Japanese planes laid bombs on the
harbour. The cause of this cartoon was, because the Japanese attacked Pearl
Harbor, which was a very important military base for the US, but also a very rich
source in oil and iron. Overall this is a very biased
cartoon, but is a good insight on the American
view.
This is a memorial stone found inside the USS
Arizona Memorial in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor. It is a
quote from the US president at the time of World
War Two; Franklin D. Roosevelt. It was part of his
famous war declaration. The purpose of the
memorial is to inform visitors about what
happened and what was said by the president
after the attack, but also to remember his words
and to show the world, that the attack will be
remembered in infamy by the Americans. The cause of this speech was the
attack on Pearl Harbor and this is an extract of a war declaration against the axis
powers, mainly Japan. One value of this is that one can now always have
evidence of what the president once said and it is very important for the
Americans to have such an important quote in history. Nevertheless this piece is
again very one-sided and does not explain the Japanese view. Another value is
that this memorial, now lets everybody see what was once said and it is a very
important part in history. Overall this is a good representor of the consequences
of the war and how it affected the
Americans until today.

This is a quote by the Japanese War Admiral

Isoroku Yamamoto. This quote was never
said or written by the Admiral, but was used
in the end of the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! as a dramatic end. The quote was also

copied and used at the end of the movie Pearl Harbor. One value of this quote is
that it is foreshadowing what is going to happen between Japan and America. We
now know about the atomic bombs dropped in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but in
the movie the people did not know and therefore foreshadows what will happen if
the movie would have been continued. One limitation of the quote is that it was
never actually said or written by the Admiral, so it could be completely
misinterpreted view of the Japanese after the attack. For example this quote lets
the view think, that Japan regretted their attack on Pearl Harbor, which might not
have been the case though. Nevertheless the quote is from the view of the
Japanese which is a value, because there are not many sources about the
Japanese view. But the main problem with this it that it gives us false idea of what
might have been thought by the Japanese. Overall this is a false representor of
the war and its consequences and could lead to false interpretations, though very
accurate in foreshadowing events.
This is a cartoon explaining the cause of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The
cartoonist of this piece is unknown, as well as the main purpose,
but one might suggest, that it was made to inform the
world why the attack on Pearl Harbor was made. One
value of this piece would be that it explains the
embargo on Japan that was made by America.
Nevertheless this piece is very biased, because it makes
the US
the villain and makes Japan the good guys. The carton
explains how America embargoed Japan and cot off their
oil
sources, because the oil belonged to them. One value
of
this piece would be that it clearly shows how during
World War Two Japan relayed on the American for their oil, to
power their war machines. It also shows the reader, how without America, Japan
would not have been able to be such a strong participant in the war. Another
value of this source would be that is explains to the reader, that the attack on
Pearl Harbor was revenge for the embargo. Overall the piece is very help if
studying the battle, because it explains the cause very simply.
This is an American newspaper article published 7 th December 1941. This was on
the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor. It is a newspaper from the city Honolulu.
The cause of this article was after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, to explain
to the US citizens that war had been declared and that America was now part of
World War Two. One value of this newspaper is that explains in detail what
happened at the attack and it has the list of deaths and injured. On the other
hand one limitation of this piece is that it was from the perspective of the
Americans. The article might have been exaggerate and changed, so that the
citizens find the situation much worse than it is and also to make them hate
Japan. This article might have been used as a piece of propaganda, to make
Americans join the war. One limitation of this newspaper is, that it does not have
the exact amount of deaths, because it was published right after the attack and
now it is known that not only six people died during the attack. One value on the
other hand would be that it was published right after the attack, telling the reader
how much this attack influenced the Americans. Overall this is a biased article,

but a very informative one, but it wouldnt

be great, to study the attack, because it is
not one hundred
percent accurate.

This was a
propaganda poster,
made for the
Americans to buy
bonds and give the US more money
to put into to
weapons. The cause was that after
the attack, the
United States of America wanted its
population to buy
bonds, so that they would buy more weapons to fight against the axis powers.
The poster used children, because more people felt bad for children then is there
would have been adults. Also most families owned children and the people felt
sorry for all the children growing up without a dad, because he was killed during
the attack on Pearl Harbor. The poster says Remember Pearl Harbor this might
mean that the poster wants the view to donate money, because they all believed
that the attack was unfair. One limitation of the poster, is that once again it is
very one sided and makes it look like Japan were the bad guys, but America also
played a major role in the attack. Another limitation of the poster, is that it looks
like Americans were so sad after the attack and that they were innocent little
children, nevertheless America very quickly got revenge and the Japanese were
never asked how they felt. Overall I think the poster is very biased and very
inaccurate when used in school, nevertheless it is a very good representor of
propaganda and its effect.

This is a map showing the exact route, that

the different types of planes took, to attack
Pearl Harbor. This was made for educational
purposes. The map shows which type of
planes attack which part of the American
military base at Pearl Harbor and the route
they took to get there. The map has a key,
explaining which lines represent which
plane. This makes it very easy for the view
to understand the map. One value of this
map is that it does not only show Pearl
Harbor, but how they flew over the whole island before bombing. Another value is
that the map also includes very important bases such as Wheeler Airbase,
Hickam Airbase and Kanoehe Airbase. This shows the reader, that the Japanese
not only destroyed some of the biggest ships, but also attacked the airbases, to
destroy many American planes. One limitation of this is that it doesnt show how
they attack Pearl Harbor as a close up. Nevertheless the viewer can clearly see
where Pearl Harbor is situated. With the map, the reader can clearly identify, that
it was a planned route and that not all of the attacks where at once, but in waves,
which is even more unexpected. Overall the map is a unbiased source and simple
to understand and it is very easy for the viewer to understand what is happening.
In addition to that if one does not know anything this map clearly shows the main
information about the attack, accept the cause and consequences, which could
also be viewed as a limitation.
Overall all the sources worked together, to explain the causes, the attack and the
consequences of Pearl Harbor.
