HOW MUCH

WATER CAN
EVERYDAY FRUITS
ABSORB?
TURNER 1.7 PS

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to see not only what happens when fruit soaks in
water, but to see which has the highest absorbency rate.
My hypothesis was, strawberries will absorb the most water when soaked for five minutes
because, the seeds on the strawberry act as holes on a sponge; it helps water get more
inside the strawberry.
My steps were, to put 25 grams of strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew, paper towel,
watermelon and grapefruit, into 100 grams of water. Then, I would place them in the
water for five minutes and weigh them again to see how much water each fruit absorbed.
My results were, the watermelon absorbs the most water. I believe this because, a lot of
the other fruits were very compact, while the watermelon was soft and less dense.

CONCLUSION

My hypothesis was not supported because strawberries did not only not
absorb the most water, But absorbed the least amount of water. The
watermelon absorbs the most water. I believe this because, a lot of the
other fruits were very compact, while the watermelon was soft and less
dense
