World History
Monday-Friday 7:30am-8:50am Mr. Espinoza Email: [email protected] Phone: (123)-456-7890 Overview This course is designed to educate students on key historical world events. Students will be expected to think critically, analyze primary and secondary sources and utilize technology. Students will be required to turn in assignments on time and take part in all in class activities. The course will be rigorous and will contain tests, quizzes, papers and a final project. INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS At the end of this course, students will Know the difference between primary and secondary sources and the benefits and drawbacks of each. Be able to analyze historical text and think critically Be able to craft a well written historical paper utilizing primary and secondary sources Examine how key historical event have played an important role in shaping the modern world Assignments Final Project Students will research a topic, approved by teacher, and construct a five to ten page paper and present findings. Presentation can be slideshows, posters and other means as long as they have been approved by the teacher. Midterm Students will take a mid-course assessment covering information from the first eight weeks of the class. Assessment will consists on multiple choice and essay questions. Tests Throughout the course, students will take three test fifty points each. Homework Students will be responsible for daily homework. Papers Students will construct multiple short papers throughout the first eight weeks in preparation for the final project. Quizzes Students will take short quizzes to help prepare for midterm, tests and state standardized tests. Attendance/Participation Students are required to attend class and participate in all class activates.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
General Rules: 1. Arrive on time, 2. Raise your hand before speaking. 3. Listen to others and participate in class discussions. 4. Stay on task. 5. Do your assignments. 6. Bring materials and have them ready. 7. Listen to directions. 8. Cooperate with your group. 9. Pick up after yourself. 10. Leave other people's materials alone. 11. Do not interrupt other students' learning. 12. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself. 13. No vandalism. Do not write or carve on your desk or school property. Students who fail to comply with class and school rules will be issued one warning. If negative behavior persists, students will be sent to sweep or principles office (depending on the severity) and parents will be notified. Grading Policies: Grading will based on a point scale. There will be 1000 points possible throughout the course.
