Opening the program…
Click on the ‘Start’ menu
Select ‘All Programs’
Select ‘Open Office 2.4’
Click on ‘Impress’
Opening a blank presentation…
Select ‘Empty Presentation’
Click ‘Create’
Creating a title slide…
Look in the ‘Task Pane’ (on the right side of
your screen)
The second slide on the top row is a ‘title
slide’. Click on it.
Type the name of your presentation in the
top box.
Type your name in the bottom box.
Adding slides…
Look in the upper right corner for the
button that says ‘+ Slide’. Click on it.
Select the type of slide you want to use.
Title and text only
Title, text, and picture
Changing fonts…
To change the font style
Click on the arrow next to the font name.
Select the font you want to use (NO OLD ENGLISH)
To change the font size
Click on the arrow next to the font size.
Use large fonts so we can read your presentation.
To change font color
Look for the ‘A’ with the color box under it.
Click on it and select the color you want.
Make sure it’s a color that we will be able to read clearly
Inserting pictures
Select a slide that allows
space for a picture.
Find the picture you want
online; copy it and paste it
onto your slide.
Click on the picture and
drag the edges to the size
or place you want it.
Making a picture your
background
Follow the same steps for inserting a
picture (see previous slide).
Drag the edges of your picture so it
takes up the whole slide.
RIGHT click on the picture, select
‘Arrange’ and then select ‘Send to
Back’. Now your picture is behind
your text.
Changing the order of slides
Click on the tab that says ‘Slide Sorter’
Click on the slide you want to move and
drag it to the correct place.
Animation
You can add animation to your slides if you
choose.
Select ‘Custom Animation’ on the Task
Pane.
Click on the font that you want to animate
(title or body).
Click ‘Add’ and then choose the type of
animation you want to use.

Get the text done first, then worry about
pictures, backgrounds, and fonts.
