Year 7 focus areas
Focus: How do we belong to community?
What is community. What does being in community look like, sound like, feel like to be in our school community? What are the key ideas of this school as a Catholic community? How can the message of Jesus is lived out in the school community. Exploring Church teaching and basic principles of Christian morality, such as the Creeds (what we believe as community), Decalogue (how we act within community). Investigating change and continuity in the church and particular religious communities, and the Catholic Church in Australia. (8 weeks) Mandated Scripture: Decalogue in Exodus 20, Apostles and Nicene Creed Supplementary Scripture: Golden Rule STCW8, BETR9, BEHE7, CHPG8, CHCH6, CLMF11, CLMJ8
Focus: How do people live their faith in the community? Exploring some ways people express their faith in different communities, past and present. The significance of prayer, ritual, and Sacraments for the ways believers live out their faith, personally and communally. Review the Sacraments of Initiation Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. The use of formal prayers and the use of sacred space for personal and communal worship, liturgical year. (7 weeks) CHLS10, CHLS11, CLPS18, CLPS19 Focus: The meaning of sacred text for believers Old Testament Sacred texts reflect the audience, purpose and context of their human authors. Contextual information (literary form, historical and cultural context, authors intent) assists the reader to understand Old Testament texts. The monotheistic religions have common beginnings of faith seen through the story of Abraham. Sacred texts influence the life of believers and are important to the way people live their faith day to day. (7 weeks) Mandated Scripture: Genesis 17 Abraham and Sarah Supplementary Scripture: Twelve tribes of Israel STOT12, BEWR8
Focus: The meaning of sacred text for believers New Testament Sacred texts reflect the audience, purpose and context of their human authors. Contextual information (literary form, historical and cultural context, authors intent) assists the reader to understand New Testament texts. New Testament texts reflect the beginnings of Christian faith that continued through key people and events in the early centuries CE. (7 weeks) Mandated Scripture: Festivals and customs Passover in Exodus, laws and practices Sabbath. Supplementary Scripture: Pesach/Passover in Exodus. STNT16, STNT17
