Lincoln Elementary School:
Lincoln Elementary school is located in Gilbert,
Arizona. Gilbert is a relatively large city with a
strong sense of family and community. The
school has a population of 765 students from
PreK- 6th grade. At Lincoln Elementary School,
94% of the students are eligible for free and/or
reduced lunch and 58% of the students are
second language learners. The majority of the
students at Lincoln Elementary School are
Hispanic (93%) with 5% of the student population
being white and 2% are American Indian.

Role as a child development
professional:
The role that we play as a child
development professional is a
crucial part in shaping our students
future. It is important to have
strong communication with parents
and guardians at all time. We need
to get to know our students as
individuals and as well as the
families of our students.
Take the time to gain an
understanding of the student and
gather information from the
parents and include them in the
school day learning, positive and
negative behaviors that make take
place in the classroom.
The Mesosystem from Bronfenbrenners Ecological System for
parents to understand how families, schools, and the community
are connected:
Our textbook states that A child's
academic progress depends not just
on activities that take place in the
classroom but also on parent
involvement in the school life and on
the extent to which academic
learning is carried over into the
home.(Berk)
Parents are the childs first role model
and first teacher. It is important to
have a connection with learning
outside of the classroom as well as
inside.
It is also important to reach out to
community members and learning
environments that are in our
communities.

development:
Having this type of involvement
in the childs learning allows for
the parents, teachers and the
child to create a bond. The
awareness for the importance of
what school is and can do for the
child as well as help build respect
for the community, school work
and etc.
One idea the school or
community could implement
right away that aligns with the
Cultures represented at the
school are Hispanic, White and
Indian.
For school events we could do an
ice breaker with everyone that
has a map at the table and needs
to find where our heritage is from
so that the parents, students and
the teachers can learn from one
another and also explain there
backgrounds.
COMMUNICATING
How this type of involvement
influences a childs learning and
development:
Students will feel as they are
important and part of the school.
Families will be more involved with
the school and the learning that is
taking place.
Awareness of own role in
partnerships, serving as courier and
communicator.
One idea the school or community
could implement right away that
aligns with the Cultures

Hispanic, White and Indian.
School News letter or school
flyers in different languages so
that they are easy for the
parents to read and
understand. A translator is
available if needed. Also we
can ask the parents to come in
to our classrooms and teach us
all a few words in the language
that they speak.
VOLUNTEERING

development:
Help build relationships with in
the school and families.
Students get to see their parents
actively involved with the school

planning and the activity.

This will help build a bond with
the parents, teachers and the
students that learning is
everywhere and all around us.

with activities and extended
learning activities that the child

that we want for our students.

everyone. Have a board that
everyone can share goals that
they would like our school to
have.
