by Srila Rupa Goswami 1 A very poor man living in Vrndavana forest presents the following appeal at the lotus feet of Vrndavanas King and Queen. 2 O King whose lustre eclipses the splendour of newly blossomed blue lotus flowers, o Queen whose fair complexion devours the intense pride of yellow gorocana! 3 ...O King whose splendid garments mock the beauty of golden kadamba flowers, O Queen whose splendid garments eclipse the glory of red kimsuka flowers... 4 ...O King who is the sapphire crown of all youths, O Queen who is the jasmine flower crown in the decorated braids of all the girls in Vraja... 5 ...O King whose transcendental form is most handsome of all forms of the Personality of Godhead, O Queen whose beauty fills with wonder the girls of Vraja, who are more beautiful than the goddess of fortune... 6 ...O King whose fragrance captivates Srimati Radharani, O Queen whose fragrance maddens Lord Madhava, O King whose flute stuns Srimati Radharani, O Queen whose vina charms infallible Krsna... 7 ...O King whose restless sidelong glances are the thief that steals Radhas peacefulness, O Queen whose bumblebee sidelong glance bites the lotus of Krsnas heart... 8 ...O King who made no reply to Radhas mysterious jokes, O Queen, the hairs of whose vine-like form stood erect with joy as You heard the Prince of Vrajas joking words... 9 ...O King whose splendid transcendental virtues are an eternally growing mountain of rubies, o queen whose many transcendental virtues are desired by Parvati and all other beautiful girls... 10 ...O King of Vrndavana, O Queen of Vrndavana, bowing down before You, with a choked voice, this foolish person appeals to You. 11 Although I am not worthy to receive Your mercy, please be merciful to me, for You are the crowns of all who are merciful. 12 O King and Queen worshipped by the masters of all the worlds, they who are very merciful are filled with mercy even for the unworthy and even for the offenders. 13 Although I have no the dimmest shadow of pure devotion, which is the only way to attain You, still, because You are the masters of playful transcendental pastimes, please be merciful to me. 14 O my King and Queen, in this world many powerful controllers and many playful persons are seen to be merciful to the impious and indifferent. 15-16 Although I am the lowest and You are the highest, although I am a fool and You are the greatest philosophers, although I am wicked and You are the most saintly, and although I commit offences when I think of You, still, O King and Queen, the shadow of whose holy name delivers one from a host of sins, please be kind to this person who sometimes chants Your holy name. 17 The most unpardonable sin is made non-existent by a small particle of devotion to You. This makes me hopeful. For this reason I now appeal to You. 18 Although this living entity is a cowardly eunuch, intense pain has now made him bold. O King and Queen, again and again he appeals to You. Please be kind to him. 19 Loudly crying and taking a straw between his teeth, this sinful soul begs: O King and Queen, please be merciful! 20 Calling out Alas, alas! this unfortunate person begs: Please hear my appeal! O King and Queen, please hear my appeal! 21 Filled with anguish and again and again calling out: Alas! Alas! I beg: O oceans of mercy, please be kind to this unworthy person! 22 Placing his face in his hands, this person cries out in anguish: O King and Queen, please, please give a small drop of Your mercy! 23 Crying, I, who am a great fool, beg in a piteous voice: O merciful King and Queen, please splash me with Your waves of mercy! 24 To they whose hearts are filled with sweet, ecstatic devotion You mercifully give sweet, pure love. 25 O King and Queen, I wish only to serve You. I do not wish anything else. Please be kind to me. 26 O King and Queen who are kind to the shelterless, please be kind to this person and grant the direct service he begs.

27 Folded palms placed on his head, this poor person begs: May my desire now be fulfilled!.. 28 When, coming through the forest, will Your splendid fragrance overwhelm my nose with immeasurable happiness? 29 When will the musical tinkling of Your anklets, which shames the swans warbling, delight my ears? 30 When, seeing in Vrndavana forest Your footprints bearing a chariot wheel and other auspicious signs, will this person become mad with joy? 31 O King and Queen whose lotus feet are the worshipable ultimate limit of all beauty, will You place these unprecedented joyful festivals before My eyes? 32 O Lords, the sight of whose lotus feet I have for a long time yearned to see, will this person be able to directly see You in this birth? 33 O splendid King and Queen, when will I see You enjoying amorous pastimes nearby in the groves and caves of Vrndavana forest? 34 O King and Queen, who out of fear of Your superiors, rarely see each other, when will I delight You with the nectar of each others letters? 35 When, as You search for each other in Vrndavana forest, will I bring You together, and receive from You an excellent gift as a reward? 36 When will I, holding the fresh garland intended as the victors prize, see Your dispute, as You both claim victory in the gambling match? 37 When, as You lay on the bed of flowers, will this person massage your feet? 38 When will You order me to repair the necklaces, broken during Your amorous battle in the cottage of vines? 39 O king and queen of Vrndavana, when will I decorate Your hair with peacock feathers, the previous decorations having been washed away by the waves of your pastimes? 40 When will I apply splendid tilaka markings to your foreheads, the previous decorations broken by your great skill in amorous pastimes? 41 O King, when will I decorate Your chest with forest flower garlands? O Queen, when will I decorate Your eyes with black kajjala? When will this person decorate You in the garden temple? 42 When will this person break golden betel leaves and place them in Your mouths? 43 What am I? I am a sinful man. How can I make such a request? But who will not become maddened by Your transcendental sweetness? 44 O King and Queen, by the same mercy that allows this unworthy person to reside in Vrndavana, please fulfil his desire. 45 O King and Queen who dance in Vrndavana forest, may the desires of a person who repeatedly recites this Karpanya-panjika become fulfilled.

Sri Sri Kesavastakam


(Eight Wonderful Prayers Glorifying Lord Kesava)
to be recited at 4:00pm by Srila Rupa Goswami 1. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja with His ears beautified with earrings made of fresh kadamba-buds, whose crown is brightened by blooming malati-flowers and around whose neck a wreath of slightly blooming yuthika flowers is wound. 2. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja, joyfully wandering amongst His surabhi cows, calling them by name: Pisangi! Manikastani! Pranatasrngi! Pingeksane! Mrdanga-mukhi! Dhumale! Sabali! Hamsi! Vamsipriye! 3. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja. He is softened by deep love, enjoys sweet joking conversations and He is the abode of all playful enjoyments. He shines in many different dresses and laughs at the best jokes that His friends make along the way. 4. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja. The leaves that were painted on His cheeks with mountain minerals are slightly washed away by drops of perspiration and His curly locks defeat the luster of a cluster of bees. 5. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja. The cows that eagerly look at their bound-up calves deeply carve the soil with their dancing hooves, and He withholds them with the soft playing of His flute. 6. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja, beautifying the roads with His footprints, whose garland is made grey by the dust thrown up by His herd of restless cows and whose cloth, scarf and crown are moving along with the waves of the blowing wind. 7. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja, where He gladdened the minds of all the cowherd girls at once with the playful and artful tunes of His murali-flute, which causes them to horripilate of ecstasy within their inner quarters, and who constantly gives joy to the heart of the queen of Vraja, Yasoda. 8. I worship Kesava, who returns from the forest of Vraja, being worshipped by hundreds of dancing, playful glances and beautiful smiles of the beautiful girls ont he road, and the corners of whose bee-like eyes move restlessly around their bud-like breasts. 9. To anyone who nicely recites these eight prayers, that are a festival of bliss for all the cowherd girls, the friend of Visakha, Sri Krsna, will give firmly fixed attraction to His lotus feet. Such a pure-minded soul will attain all happiness.

Sri Sri Lalitastakam


(Eight Prayers Glorifying Srimati Lalitadevi)
by Srila Rupa Goswami 1. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities. She uses hundreds of thousands of bodies as ingredients for the worship of the sweatdrops that emanate from Sri Sri Radha-Mukundas lotus feet and acts boldly, just because she is overwhelmed by intense feelings of friendship for Them. 2. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, whose face defeats the beauty of the ambrosial corona of the full moon, whose eyes are like those of an alarmed deer and who is expert in the art of decorating Sri Radhika. 3. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, who wears a wonderful silk dress colored like a peacock with outstretched feathers, as well as a nice blouse, and whose complexion defeats the golden splendour of..... 4. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, and who teaches Sri Radhika Her unwilling mood towards Sri Krsna, saying: Radhe! Firmly reject this shrewd son of the King of Vraja, O immoral girl! Listen! Dont be weak! Im saying it for Your own good. Dont submit to Him! 5. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, and whose eyes become red of anger if she sees the son of the King of Vraja cheating Sri Radhika even slightly, upon which she will promptly embarrass Him with her clever words. 6. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, who is the abode of affection for the Queen of cowherders, Yasoda, who is the teacher of friendship for al the sakhis and whose love for Sri Radhika and Balavaraja is irrespective. 7. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, who requests every girl in Vraja to join the party of Vrsabhanus daughter and who fulfills all desires of that girl [or of Sri Radhika]. 8. I offer my obeisances to Lalita devi, who has many wonderful qualities, who always makes sure that all festivals of Radha and Vrajendrasutas union take place and who is the chief of all the dear girlfriends in Gokula. 9. Anyone who recites these prayers praising Lalitas wonderful qualities with a pure vision will be lovingly counted amongst her own [friends or maidservants] by Sri Radhika, the brilliant fancy vine of the family of the Lord of Kirtida [King Vrsabhanu].

Sri Sri Radhikastakam


(Eight Prayers Glorifying Srimati Radharani)
by Srila Rupa Goswami 1. I worship Sri Radhika, whose beautiful eyes flicker in all directions, like restless, playful wagtail birds, who is the malli-flower for the honeybee-heart of the son of the cowherd King [Sri Krsna], and who is grave in all attributes. 2. I worship Sri Radhika, whose fathers [Vrsabhanu Maharajas] fame spreads well throughout the world, and who plays along with Her friends with the son of the King of Vraja in Her own beautiful pond. 3. I worship Sri Radhika, whose smiling, submissive face is initiated in a vow to subdue the glories of the full autumn moon, who is the Lord of the lilies, and who can cause waves of erotic sweetness for Aghabhid [Krsna] with Her playful eyes that dance in an elevated way. 4. I worship Sri Radhika, whose hair braid, which is filled with various kinds of blooming flowers, looks like the extended tail of a peacock that is dizzy of amorous feelings, and whose spotless cheeks are colored with the pan which comes from Madhuripus [Sri Krsnas] mouth. 5. I worship Sri Radhika, who is sprinkled with pure intimate affection for Lalita and whose all-encompassing mood of friendship with Visakha is well known. She carries sweet jewels of pleasure for Aghabhid [Sri Krsna] in the priceless shining jewelbox of Her love. 6. I worship Sri Radhika, who was crowned [with a ceremonial bathing] as the Queen of Vrndavana, who is the presiding goddess of the Kartika month, which is the best time of the year, who is the chief of all the innumerable dear ladies of Sri Mukunda, and whose fame destroys the sins of the world. 7. I worship Sri Radhika, who even looks upon the backs of the extreme borders of Haris toenails as being more dear to Her than millions upon millions of hearts, who is the guru who initiates all the joyful, restlesseyed girls in the art of cleverness and whose glories are great. 8. I worship Sri Radhika, whose luster is of pure gold, like vermilion ground on a golden slab, whose teenage beauty is surrounded by waves of sweetness, who gets horripilations when She is embraced by Haris arms and who wears a bright crimson garment. 9. The moon of auspiciousness of the bank of the daughter of the Sun-god [Yamuna], Sri Krsnacandra, will be satisfied with whoever nicely recites this best of prayers, that is a spotless vessel of erotic sweetness and He will fulfill that persons desires.

Sri Sri Gandharva Samprarthanastakam


(Eight Prayers to Srimati Gandharvika Devi)
by Srila Rupa Goswami (?according to others, by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti) 1. O Goddess! Be merciful to me and reveal Your lotus face to me when You and Sri Krsna play in the playgroves of Vrndavana, enjoying like intoxicated, blissful Lordly elephants! 2. O Goddess! In great distress I prostrate myself before You, falling ont he ground, praying piteously unto You with faltering voice. O Gandharvike! After You bestowed Your mercy on this fool, count him [her] amongst Your own people! 3. O Syame [Sri Radhe]! When will I worship You as Indira [Laksmi], when Your beautiful body is bound up by Syamas left arm? Krsnas beauty enchants all the people of the world and is even greater than that of Rama-ramana [Lord Visnu, Laksmis husband]. 4. O Goddess! When can I arrange for Your blissful nocturnal meeting with the son of the King of Vraja in the grove by covering Your body with a cloudblue sari and by removing the anklebells from Your feet? 5. When will this person serve Your lotus feet, that adorn the three worlds by massaging them, as You are sitting together on a playbed made of flowers in a grove, while You are making sweet jokes with each other? 6. O Queen of Vrndavana! When can I fan You with a yak-tail fan with a jeweled rod when You and Sri Krsna are sitting under a tree, Your lotus-like faces beautified by drops of perspiration from fatigue after Your pastimes on the shore of Your pond [Sri Radha-kunda]? 7. O beautiful-eyed One! It was not me who told Mukunda in which corner of the kunja You were hiding! Citra did it! Dont frown Your eyebrows at me in false anger! When can I take You before the son of the king of Vraja? 8. When You defeat Krsna in a joking argument, You show even greater pride, extending Your proud words to Your blooming friends, who will praise You. When will I see You like this? 9. Anyone who nicely recites these eight prayers to the daughter of king Vrsabhanu will be accepted by Her in a wave of mercy and She will joyfully appear before her with Her lover.

Govinda-virudavali
(Calling Out to Lord Krsna)

When one reads it Sri Govinda becomes pleased. 2 O lotus-eyed Lord, when You wish to enjoy pastimes in the material world You appoint the demigod Brahma to create places for them and You also appoint the demigod Siva to eventually remove those places . The Viraja river, which is a moat surrounding the Vaikuntha worlds and which contains within its waters many millions of places where You enjoy pastimes, is like a small handful of water to You. O Lord, now that You have stopped enjoying pastimes in this world, what prayers shall the saintly devotees recite to glorify You? 3 May Lord Krsnas (the numberless waves of whose transcendental pastimes crushed the pride of the powerful demigod Indra) left hand, which lifted the king of mountains (Govardhana Hill) as if it were an umbrella, bring transcendental happiness to this world. 4 O Lord whose footsteps crush the pride of the elephant Airavata, O Lord whose charming bodily fragrance robs Your friends of their weariness, O Lord who crushes the strength and pride of the demons, O Lord who delights the hearts of the saintly devotees, O Lord who enjoys transcendental amorous pastimes without any check, O Lord whose arms are like two serpents, O Lord who wears flower-bud earrings, O Lord whose transcendental form is anointed with splendid sandal paste, O Playful and witty Lord, O Lord who defeated the Kaliya serpent, O Lord who gives the great favour (of liberation) to even the demons, O Lord whose charming smile removed the fears of the astonished demigod Brahma, O Lord whose affectionate (brother) Baladeva could guess (that you had expanded Yourself as the boys and calves), O Lord who was for an entire year separated from Your friends and calves, O Lord whose splendid voice defeats the roaring of thunder, O Lord who rebukes the envious demons, all glories to the sound of Your flute, which is a splendid moon that brings great tidal waves to the ocean of amorous desires of the beautiful girls in the heavenly planets, and which is an Agastya Muni drinking the ocean of peaceful composure of the very sober, responsible, and respectable girls of Gokula. 5 O lifter of Govardhana Hill, O protector of the surabhi cows, O friend of the cowherd boys, O helper of the devotees, O Lord Mukunda (Krsna), I pray that for You, who wear a great and splendid crown of peacock feathers, whose restless sidelong glances stun the wandering bumblebees, and who enjoys transcendental pastimes in a cottage in the forest by the shore of the Yamuna River, I may always feel the purest love. 6 O Lord whose garments are as splendid as lightning, O Lord whose broad arms are like slithering serpents, O Lord glorified by beautiful demigoddess maidens travelling in the sky, O Lord followed by a host of intelligent and dear friends intent on Your protection, O Lord who delights the charming and affectionate people of Vraja, O Lord from whose mouth come ever-new sounds that bring great happiness to the ear, O Lord who holds a beautiful blossomed lotus flower in Your hand, O Lord who removed the pride of the angrily bellowing bull-demon, O Lord who destroyed the angry demonic army in battle, O Lord decorated with golden tilaka, O Lord who tastes the nectar of love for the sometimes angry and sometimes satisfied young girls of Vraja, please reside in the loving hearts of Your devotees. O Lord, O killer of the Agha demon, may we find happiness in the deep ocean of Your transcendental pastimes, where the great waves of Your smiles and laughter rock the universes, where the centre is always crowded with the many makharas of the surrendered souls, and where the swans of the great devotees drink to their full satisfaction. 7 O youthful, merciful Lord, O tamala tree decorated with gunja, flowering vines, and peacock feathers, O Lord decorating the gopas and delighting Rohini and Yasoda, the moon of Your glory, born from the ocean of Your Gokula pastimes, at one time illuminated this world. 8 O killer of Aristasura, O ornament of the devotees,, O Lord decorated with sandal paste, O delight of the surrendered souls, O jubilantly restless Lord, O Lord who throws restless glances from the corners of Your glistening eyes, O Lord who wears swinging kadamba flower earrings, O Lord who enters a charming mountain cave, O Lord whose movements are more graceful than those of the most elegant great elephant, O handsome Lord who pleases a host of friends and relatives, please bring transcendental happiness now to the beautiful gopis in the great forest of Vrndavana. 9 O Lord who kills the demons, O Lord who kisses the murali flute, O Lord who bows down to offer respects to Your mother, O Lord who delights the gopis, all glories to you! All glories to that person who is eternally in love with the lotus-like gopis, whose ever-fresh bodily fragrance attracts and intoxicates the bumblebees,

who holds a charming lotus flower, who knows the deepest secrets and who enjoys pastimes like a regal elephant in the jungle by the Yamunas shore. 10 O hero, all glories to You! All glories to You! O Hero of the mellows of transcendental amorous pastimes, O hero whose teeth defeat the thunderbolt, O hero who defeats the armies of the demons, O hero who enjoys pastimes with Your garlanded friends, O hero who wears a necklace of transcendental jewels, O enjoyer of the rasa dance, O hero with a blossoming smile, O hero splendidly anointed with fragrant powder, O hero whose forest-flower garland is glorified by hosts of bumblebees, O protector of the people of Vraja, O affectionate friend of the devotees, O hero whose glistening earrings swing on Your shoulders, O hero who attracts the swans with the musical sound of Your long flute, O hero who extinguished the forest fire, O hero who shines with love for Your affectionate friends, O hero whose voice is like thunder, O hero whose chest is anointed with kunkuma from the full breasts of the gopis, O hero who stopped the indra-yajna, O hero who at once lifted Govardhana Hill, all glories to You! In Vrajas hero, who is beyond the rules of the Vedas, whose power and heroism is glorified in many beautiful songs, who is surrounded by His dear devotees, whose chest is now yellow, anointed with kunkuma, who enjoys pastimes in a newly constructed forest cottage, who wears a splendid golden sash, and who is a deep ocean of the nectar of love, may we place all our love. 11 O Lord whose curling locks of hair and whose splendid bimba-fruit lips are kissed by Your mother, all glories to You. O Lord Krsna, O killer of the Mura demon, when the god of love saw the great flood of the splendour of Your toenails, a splendour far greater than the shining of hundreds of full moons, he became despondent and, abandoning all pride in his own handsomeness, became disembodied. 12 O Lord who punished a demon who made a great whirlwind of hard, sharp, dancing dust, O crusher of the demons, O protector of the devotees, O Lord whose unique transcendental qualities bring a great festival of happiness to Your friends, O Lord who, by lifting a mountain with one of Your transcendental arms, protected Your friends troubled by harsh thunder, O Lord who rebuked the king of heaven for his pride, O Lord to whom King Indra, his illusion now dispelled, offered prayers, O Lord who celebrated a great festival, O hero , O swan who plays in the Yamuna, all glories to the king of mantras: Your flutes fifth note, which bewilders the intelligence, drives away shyness, subdues the elephants of the fear of transgressing the rules of religion, and draws to it the transcendental forms of the beautiful-eyebrowed gopis. 13 O Lord who, with the sweet sound of Your flute, attracts the gopis to the forest, O Lord who is very pleased by intelligent Radhika, O Lord expert at delighting thousands of beautiful girls, O lover of a great multitude of affectionate gopis, O Lord please protect me. May the arrows of Lord Krsnas sidelong glances, which are shot from moving eyebrow-bows more proud than the bow of the god of love, which pierce the hard armour of the pride of the most virtuous girls, and which become thunderbolts breaking the hearts of the most chaste young girls, bring transcendental happiness to you. 14 O Lord decorated with swinging vicalika flower earrings, O supreme ornament of all handsome men, O Lord who fought the king of the snakes, O Lord who removed the fear of the world, O Lord worshipped by Brahma and Siva, O Lord pleased by the brief prayers of Your servant, O Lord glorified by jubilant King Indra, O Lord expert at defeating the restless demons, O Lord whose motions defeat the most graceful elephant, O Lord whose neck is anointed with fragrant sandal paste, O Lord whose handsome arms are decorated with glistening armlets, O Lord who brings great happiness to Your friends, O Lord who wears jingling jewelled bracelets, O Lord who wears rangana flowers in Your moving hair, O Lord whose garments are splendid with kunkuma, O Lord whose bodily fragrance is very sweet, O Lord who brings transcendental auspiciousness to the home of King Nanda, O Lord handsomely anointed with colourful ghusrna, O Lord whose lotus soles are splendidly reddish, O Lord who increases the amorous desires of the young girls of Vraja, O Lord anointed with musk, please grant auspiciousness to me. I pray that upon Lord Krsna, who is colourfully decorated with mineral pigments from Govardhana Hill, who is a spark to ignite the straw of the demons, who is a timingila fish sporting in the ocean of battling the demons, and who is the auspiciousness of Vraja, I may repose my love. 15 O handsome Lord accompanied by beautiful girls decorated with splendid necklaces, O ornament of the universe, O Lord whose splendour enchants the gopis, O hero, all glories to You. May Lord Krsna, whose disarrayed hair is decorated with bunches of punnaga flowers and a crown of peacock feathers, whose complexion is as splendid as sapphires and who stands like a god of love in the forest by the Yamunas shore, protect me. 48 All glories to You, O Lord who is dear to Garga Muni, O Lord glorified by the demigod Siva, O hero, O Lord who is submissive to the devotees who taste the nectar of eternal love for You! O Lord Krsna, all glories to Your horns sound, which can be heard from very far away, and which has become the initiating and instructing spiritual master of the demons wives, teaching them how to follow the vows of widowhood. 49 O Lord whose hair is decorated with a multitude of flowers, O Lord whose nails have defeated the diamond mirrors, O Lord whose soldiers delighted the people with their prowess in battle, O Lord whose ferocious fighting is like the most graceful dance, O Lord whose feet crushed the angry Kaliya serpent, O shelter of all the cowherd people, O Lord whose happy eyes are charming and gladdening, O Lord who rests in the cave of a hill, O Lord who delights the young gopis, O Lord expert at fighting lovers quarrels, O Lord who kills the troublesome demons, O Lord whose pure words full the world with nectar, O Lord whose soft, splendid, pure smile is a kumuda flower, O Lord whose charming face is a kamala flower, O Lord whose moving locks of hair are like black bees, O Lord who wears tilaka drawn in splendid kunkuma, O Lord who stole the hidden jar of yoghurt, O unconquerable Lord, O hero, please always splendidly display Your pastimes in my heart. O Krsna, all glories to Your horns thunder, which is the life and soul of Your cataka bird friends, the delight of the demigod peacocks, and the source of fear for the demon swans. 50 O Supreme Person, O hero, O Lord who stands on the wonderful shore of the Yamuna, O Lord whose flutemusic floods the world, O Lord who likes to hear the lowing of the surabhi cows, O hero, all glories to Your powerful arms, which are the shelter of all the worlds, and which tore the demons apart with such ferocious violence that everyone thought all powerful Lord Nrsimhadeva had suddenly appeared. 51 O Murari (Krsna)! How wonderful it is that although the demons, who are always envious of the demigods, have failed to penetrate Your military phalanx, they have penetrated the region of mitra, the sun-globe . This translation is taken from Nectar of Devotion (page 195), where Srila Prabhupada explains: "The word mitra is used metaphorically. Mitra means the sun-globe, and mitra also means friend. The demons who opposed Krsna as enemies wanted to penetrate His military phalanx; but instead of doing this, they died in battle, and the result was that they penetrated the planet Mitra, or the sun-planet. In other words, they entered

O Mukunka (Krsna), by drinking even a fraction of a drop of the ocean of Your transcendental handsomeness what pious girls will not become enchanted and filled with desire? May Your handsome smiles, the vigorous dancing of the flowering vines of Your eyebrows, the waves of Your playful sidelong glances, and all Your enchanting quality extend Your kingdom very far. 53 O Lord who enjoys the rasa dance on the charming shore of the river bank, O Lord who plays soldiers with the cowherd boys, O Lord dressed in yellow garments, O Lord who holds a lotus in Your hand, O killer of the demons, O Lord who enjoys transcendental pastimes in the forest, O best of heroes, O playful joking Lord, O Lord Krsna, all glories to You! The elephant of my mind is drowning in the insurmountable waves of material illusion. Strongly held by the ferocious crocodile of the threefold miseries, it anxiously cries with fear in its heart. O Lord Hari (Krsna), please rescue it with Your glowing Sudarsana cakra, which cuts the sufferings of the demigods to pieces. 54 O Lord to whom the demigod Siva bows down, O Lord who angrily turned the wives of the demons into widows, O cowherd boy, O Lord dressed in elegant silk garments, O killer of Bakasura, O Lord decorated by the most expert artists, O Lord who pleases Nanda Maharaja with Your transcendental pastimes, O Lord who is an ocean of the nectar of intense transcendental love, O hero, O Lord who happily accepts the prayers, singing, music, and dancing offered for Your pleasure, O Lord a drop of the great waves of whose handsomeness captivates everyone, O Lord who delights the earth, O Lord who cripples the demons, O mountain that crushed the pride of the Kaliya snake, O benefactor of the surabhi cows, O Lord who is merciful to Your kinsmen, O Lord who lifted the king of hills, O Lord who enchants everyone with Your handsomeness, O Lord who stole the garments and left the young girls to stand in the water, O thief who stole the jewel of the most fortunate gopis heart, O Lord who enjoys transcendental pastimes in the heart of that most fortunate gopi, O Lord whose garments are as splendid as lightning, O Lord who protects the devotees trembling in fear of the cycle of repeated birth and death, O Lord blossoming with happiness, O effulgent Lord, O hero. May Sri Krsna, the king of the forest and the merciful physician who, in the mortar and pestle of single combat, crushed the demons causing pain to the cows and cowherd boys, and rolled them into a pill to cure the forest of Vrndavana, give transcendental happiness to you all. 55 O Lord whose glistening black hair is decorated with a peacock feather, O Lord whose handsome form is anointed with sandal paste, O Lord who broke the mystic powers of the demons, O Lord whose splendidly handsome form is decorated with ornaments, O Hero, O Lord who enlivens all the demigods , O Lord who liberates the demons, O Lord who brings a continual festival of transcendental bliss to the land of Vraja, O killer of the demon Mura, I glorify You. 56 O Mukunda (Krsna), may the moon of Your face, which is flooded with waves of nectar from Your very charming smiles, which brings violent waves to the ocean of the beautiful gopis conjugal bliss, and which turns the candramani jewels of Your devotees eyes into gushing mountain streams, bring transcendental happiness to us. 57 O eight-legged sarabha monster who playfully broke the neck of the arrogant Arista demon lion, O Lord dressed in exquisite silk garments that rival the splendour of new gold, O Lord whose stone chest is the kinsman of the mountain boulder, O Lord who expertly punished the Kaliya serpent, O Lord who charmingly plays with a toy ball, O Lord decorated with bhandila and vicalika flowers, O learned scholar in the science into the Brahman effulgence. The example of the sun-planet is given here because the sun is ever-illuminating, like the spiritual sky, where there are innumerable illuminating Vaikuntha planets, the enemies of Krsna were killed, and instead of penetrating Krsna's phalanx, they entered into the friendly atmosphere of the spiritual effulgence. That is the mercy of Krsna, and therefore He is known as the deliverer of His enemies also."

I pray that the monsoon clouds of Lord Krsnas transcendental handsomeness, which please the cataka birds of the gopis eyes, which continually wash the world with a flood of the nectar of liberation, which cover both sun and moon, and which are decorated with a charming peacock feather, may give transcendental happiness to us. 58 O Lord Krsna, O Lord who is always merciful, who scolded the demigod Varuna, who delighted Your father, whom the saintly devotees proclaim rescues the surrendered devotees from the illusory potency maya and has an eternal transcendental form as splendid as a dark monsoon cloud, who, Your transcendental glories described by the pious, and fearlessly killing the powerful demons, enjoys transcendental pastimes with Your loving devotees, whom, garlanded with flowers, enjoying transcendental pastimes, and enjoying a festival of transcendental amorous pastimes, celestials demigoddesses desire to attain, of whom, because You are a flood of transcendental prowess, because Your bodily splendour eclipses the sun, and because You are a powerful warrior, Your enemy is afraid, even when You are far away, who, splendidly handsome, the crown jewel of all existence, Your transcendental limbs effulgent, and Your restless eyes filled with sidelong glances, holds a flute in Your hand, and who, effulgent, splendidly smiling, charming, and playful, is the object of the auspicious love of the beautiful-eyed gopis, O fear of the demons, O Lord who is very kind and compassionate to whomever remains always steady in Your devotional service, O Lord who steals away all the fears of Vraja, O hero, all glories to You! I pray that Lord Krsna, who wears a flower-bud on His ear, who is as handsome as the god of love, who makes the kila-kincita ecstasy sprout and bloom in His beloved gopis, who is an ocean of transcendental fame, and who in His youth, His anger multiplied millions of times, playfully leaped like a lion and brought great suffering to Kamsa, the king of the Kukuras, may grant our desire.

61 O Lord who walks by the shore of the Yamuna, O Lord who stole the garments of the fair-complexioned gopis, who had faithfully observed a vow to worship goddess Gauri, O Lord whose hands became two thieves, O hero, O Lord who moves in the marketplace of love, O Lord who cuts the throats of the harsh demon kings and soldiers, O Lord whose garment is anointed with kunkuma, please dance within my heart. 62 O Lord who with Your moving feet killed the Kakatasura demon, O Lord who killed the washerman (of Kamsa), O Lord who brought the enemys army under submission, O Lord who dances on the splendid hill, O Lord who wears a new bracelet made of gold and emeralds, O Lord who pretended to cry, O Lord who with the soft soles of Your dancing feet broke the yoghurt pot, O Lord who made the Sakatasura demon become very heavy, O Lord whose broad hips are covered by a garment as splendid as a great mass of gold, O Lord who has curling hair, O Lord who gracefully dances in a banyan tree overspread with many branches and tender new shoots moving to and fro by the shore of the Yamuna, O Lord who cheats the young gopis, O hero, all glories to You! O Lord who, with the tender new sprout of Your dancing, punished the formidable serpent demon Kaliya, O Lord surrounded by Your kinsmen in Vraja, O Lord who killed the demons who brought chaos to the earth, all glories to You! 63 O Lord whose anklebells jingle, O Lord whose nails are sharp, O Lord whose teeth have defeated the splendid sikhara jewels, I am drowning in the painful, fathomless whirlpool of repeated birth and death. O Lord, O friend of the shelterless, O effulgent moon of mercy, please, this one time, quickly extend Your hand to save me. 64 Now that we have become Your devotees, Your holy names have created a jubilant festival in out mouths. Your bodily splendour, like a dark rain cloud, has now become the black ointment of our eyes, and the music of Your flute has become the ornament of our ears. We no longer take pleasure in material desires. O Almighty Lord, material desires no longer appear beautiful to us. 65 May he who reads this Govinda-virudavali, vibrating it within his throat, become a perfect, faultless and staunch devotee of Lord Krsna. 66 Lord Vasudeva (Krsna) becomes very pleased when He is glorified by the recitation of this beautiful and delightful Govinda-virudavali, which is filled with the description of His transcendental qualities. 67 Lord Hari (Krsna) becomes very quickly pleased with a person who, residing in the district of Mathura, glorifies Him with this beautiful and delightful Govinda-virudavali.

In this way Sri Krsna diminished Indra, the King of the demigods, who was intoxicated by great pride. You are the incomparable king of all the big mountains, please allow me to live close by you. 2 O Govardhana! The young Divine Couple, Sri Sri Radha-Krsna, play splendid wild loving games in your every cave, so I became very eager to see Them there. Please allow me to live close by you. 3 O Govardhana! In topmost joy Krsna plays together with Balarama and the cowherd boys in your incomparable jeweled pavilions and thrones, in the hollows of your trees, in your caves, and valleys. Please allow me to live close by you! 4 O Govardhana! You are the witness of Radha and Krsnas tax gave [in which Krsna charges tax from the ghee the gopis carry on their heads] which is an ocean of mellows. You increase the joy of the mellows of the devotees with your display of bluish platforms that are full of splendour and fragrance. Please allow me to live close by you! 5 O Govardhana! You affectionately and secretly embrace the neck of your own dear friend, Sri Radha Kunda, the place which is very dear to you and Lord Hari. Please allow me to live close by you and show me the intimate pastimes of the Divine Young Couple there! 6 O Govardhana! You make your name, keeper of cows, successfully constantly giving land, water, grass and the shade of your trees to the cows and thus you are famous in the three worlds. Please allow me to live close by you! 7 O Govardhana! Your glories are increased by the enemy of Aghasura and Bakasura, Sri Krsna, when He protected the Vrajavasis and vanquished Indra by quickly using you as their new shelter from the rain. Please allow me to live close by you! 8 O Govardhana! King of mountains! Because the nectar of your name as Haris best servant emanated from Srimati Radharanis pearl-like mouth, which was revealed by Vedic scriptures like Srimad-Bhagavatam [10.21.18], you are called the new tilaka [because of your long thin bluish shape at the edge of Vraja] of Vraja. Please allow me to live close by you. 9 O Govardhana! You are the only giver of joy to Sri Sri Radha Krsna and Their associates, that are always surrounded by the people, animals and birds of Vraja in the mood of friendship. Please mercifully accept me and allow me to live close by you. 10 O Govardhana! Although I am vile and deceitful, the causelessly merciful Sri Sacinandana submitted me to you. Therefore, do not consider whether I am qualified or unqualified and accept me. Allow me please to live close by you. 11 Anyone who carefully recites these ten verses praising the King of mountains Srila Govardhana, that are the givers of divine mellows, will swiftly attain a place to live close by Govardhana, the bestower of bliss, and he will attain the precious jewel of the auspicious loving service of the Divine Couple, Sri Sri Radha Krsna.

by Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami 1 When will Sri Radhika, who is the crown jewel of all the mellows, doe-eyed goddesses of fortune, who is the blissful swan in Muravairis lovelake, and who is the desire vine of the pious merit of King Vrsabhanu, the foremost resident of Vraja, shower me with Her service? 2 When will Sri Radhika, whose buttocks are adorned with a brightly shining crimson garment, on which nice waistbells joyfully dance and whose jug-like breasts are beautified by a string of pearls, shower me with Her service? 3 When will Sri Radhika, whose luster belittles that of the whorl of the best of the lotuses, whose nectarean adolescence is scented with the camphor of youth and whose bimba-fruit-like lips show a slight smile, shower me with Her service? 4 When will Sri Radhika, who looks at the son of the King of Vraja [Krsna] with fearful eyes when She meets Him in the forest, and who prays to Him with soft, sweet words and the movements of Her eyes, shower me with Her service? 5 When will Sri Radhika, who is the very life-form of all the housewives of Vraja, who is the object of affection for the Queen of the cowherders, Yasoda, as much as Krsna is, and whose heart is blooming of the very charming Lalitas hearts affection for Her, shower me with Her service? 6 When will Sri Radhika, who always strings vaijayanti flower garlands from flowers that She picks in the forest with Visakha, who is the dear lover at Aghavijayas [Krsnas] chest, and who is the source of His fortune, shower me with Her service? 7 When will Sri Radhika, who quickly runs to where Hari is playing His flute indicating His whereabouts, whose eyes smile when She attains Him in the kunja, but who then shyly bends Her head down, scratching Her earholes, shower me with Her service? 8 May Sri Radhika, who blissfully plays in Her own pond, which is filled with spotless, lotus flowers, that are touched by a cool breeze in the evening with Her friends and Bakari [Sri Krsna], shower me with Her service. 9 Anyone who eagerly recites this sacred Radhikastakam with a pure mind, having given up all material desires, will please Krsna, the son of the cowherd King, who will give that person a place amongst Sri Radhikas own [friends or maidservants].

(Handful of Flowers in the Form of a Lament)
By Srila Raghunatha dasa Goswami 1 O friend Rupa Manjari, although you are a famous and important person in this town, still you cannot see the face of the Supreme Personality of Godhead standing before you. Your husband is not here, and yet there is a mark on the bimba fruits of your lips as if someone has bitten them. Did a great parrot bite them? 2 O lotus tree, on the pretext of this bunch of new blossoms you are now broadly smiling in this forest. You have every right to be proud. After all, the black Krsna bee has left all the fragrant flower vines and He is now searching for the pathway to you. 3 O Rati Manjari, in the King of Vrajas city, where many gopis live, you are the most pious of all. That is why you are now going to a cave, requested by your Queen to search for the favourite belt She forgot in the midst of many pastimes. 4 Let me surrender to my spiritual master, Yadunandana Acarya. A powerful and dear devotee of the Supreme Lord, Yadunandana, he sprinkled the nectar of his mercy on me. 5 I worship Lord Caitanyacandra, the supremely independent ocean of great mercy, who with His ropes of mercy quickly lifted me from the endlessly troublesome great dry well of household life, from which escape is very difficult, who gave me the shelter of His lotus feet, which rebuke the lotuses, and who gave me to Svarupa Damodara Goswami. 6 I was unwilling to drink the nectar of devotional service possessed of renunciation, but Sanatana Goswami, out of his causeless mercy, made me drink, even though I was otherwise unable to do so. Therefore he is an ocean of mercy. He is very much compassionate on fallen souls like me, and thus it is my duty to offer my respectful obeisances unto his lotus feet. 7 O Queen [Srimati Radharani], a certain maidservant, overwhelmed with love and her heart burning in the great fire of separation, laments in the following verses. 8 O Queen, please rescue this unfortunate person, drowning in an ocean of pain. Place him on the strong boat of your mercy and carry him to the wonderful realm of Your lotus feet. 9 O Queen, with the medicine of the red lac from Your lotus feet, please bring back to life this person now dead from the bites of the black snake of not seeing You. 10 O Queen, with the nectar of a moments glance please restore the life of this gopi-maidservant of Your lotus feet, who now burns in the great forest fire of separation from You. 11 O beautiful faced one, when, even in a dream, will I, by decorating my head with the splendid perfumed powder of Your lotus feet, attain the goal of my life? 12 O beautiful one, when will the sound of your anklebells, sprinkling drops from an ocean of nectar, cure my deafness? 13 O Queen, with the two bumblebees of the corners of Your eyes, which in the moonlit rendezvous anxiously wander over each direction as if the forest were a jungle of blue lotuses, will You glance upon this person? 14 O Queen of Vrndavana, since Rupa Manjari filled my eyes with light in the land of Vraja, I have yearned to see the red lac decorating Your lotus feet. 15 O Queen whose eyes are as beautiful as two blossoming lotus flowers, when Your lake, filled with sweet water and splendid with many blossoming lotus flowers and buzzing bees, appeared before my eyes I at once began to yearn for the nectar of direct service to You. 16 O Queen, I shall never ask You for anything other than direct service to your lotus feet. I offer my respectful obeisances to Your friendship. I offer my respectful obeisances to Your friendship again and again. May I find Your service as sweet as nectar. May I find Your service as sweet as nectar. 17 O Queen whose fair complexion scratches with its nails the pride of yellow turmeric, when, happily marking my arms with auspicious markings embraced by charming red lac, will You give me the dear service of Your lotus feet? 18 O Queen, when with great love and happiness will I daily rinse the drains of Your house with pure water, dry them with my own hair, and then scent Your garden pavilion with an abundance of sweetly fragrant incense? 19 When, at Your house early in the morning, will I carefully wash Your two lotus feet with camphor-scented water and then dry them with my hair? 20 When will this maidservant brush Your teeth with a twig, wash Your lotus feet, and, when You have entered another room, massage You with scented oil?

21 O Queen whose lotus face defeats the moon, when, with jars of water scented with flowers and camphor and brought by one of Your charming and affectionate friends, will I carefully bathe You? 22 O moon-faced one, will I with a silken towel slowly and carefully dry the water from Your beautiful, delicate limbs, and the two fishes of Your eyes happily and restlessly swim from one direction to another, will I be allowed, the hairs on my body standing up in bliss, to cover Your hips with a matchless red silk cloth, and all Your limbs, from Your head down, with a beautiful blue sari? 23 O beloved of the prince of Vraja, when, after washing Your lotus feet, will this person, with the many beautiful small garlands artistically fashioned by Narmada devi, lovingly braid Your hair? 24 O Queen, when will I happily place on Your forehead beautiful musk tilaka as splendid as the full moon, on Your limbs glistening kunkuma, and on Your breasts wonderful pictures in fragrant colors? 25 O Queen, will I, drawing a line of red sindura with a jeweled salaka, decorate the part in Your hair? 26 O Queen, with a steady hand will I artistically decorate You with the aromatic red tilaka dots that are the most powerful aphrodisiac to madden Lord Krsna? 27 O beautiful one, will I happily decorate with beautiful earrings Your ears, which are the god of loves two ropes for binding the regal mad elephant of the prince of Vrajas heart? 28 O beautiful Queen, although I carefully placed this garment over Your breasts to cover them from Krsnas gaze, He has not understood my intention. Tightly embracing You, He has Himself become the garment covering the two treasures dearer than His own life. 29 O golden-complexioned one, will this maidservant place lovely necklaces of pearls and jewels on Your beautiful breasts, Lord Mukundas pillows when He is sleepy and fatigued? 30 O lotus-eyed one, at some time will I adorn Your fingers with glittering rings and Your two graceful arms, which are so dear to Lord Hari, with blue armlets studded with jewels? 31 O beautiful-eyed one, will I soon worship Your two lotus feet with jeweled anklets and the petals of Your lotus feet with toe-rings? With a splendid belt will I soon worship Your hips, the sacred pilgrimage place of Lord Krsna? 32 Bowed down with intense bliss, with two jeweled armlets will I decorate Your two graceful lotus arms, which expertly destroy the peacefulness of the swan of Lord Krsnas heart? 33 O beautiful one, will this person some day worship with a valuable necklace Your neck, which attained all good fortune when it was touched by the arm of Lord Gokulacandra in the festival of the rasa dance? 34 O beautiful-faced one, will I make the syamantaka jewel, which after the death of proud Sankhacuda, was given by Balarama to cheerful-hearted Madhumangala, which Madhumangala with his own hand gave to You, and which since has become the friend of the kaustubha jewel, the central jewel of Your necklace? 35 O slender-waisted one, when, fearing that Your very slender waist might break, will I very carefully tie it with a new golden belt splendid with flower-cluster tassels at each end? 36 O golden one, when will Your nose, which defeats the sesame flower, receive from my hand a beautiful golden honey-pearl that agitates the great bumblebee of Lord Krsna? 37 O golden one, when, by Your order, will I place on Your left arm a silken band tied with jewels and flowers? 38 O restless-eyed one, the rings I place in Your ears made Lord Krsna, who agitates all the gopis , aimlessly wander in a circle. 39 O fawn-eyed one, when will I place a dot of splendid musk on Your chin, the temple of Mukundas happiness? 40 O Queen, when will I decorate Your pearl-like teeth with ruby-like red lines? 41 O girl with the golden lips, will the Krsna-parrot bite the nectar bimba-fruits of Your lips, splendid with red khadira and camphor, placed by Me? 42 When will this person worship with black kajjala Your two eyes, which defeat the khanjana birds, and which, with the slightest movement from their corners, in a moment tightly bind the regal elephant of Lord Krsna? 43 His head reddened by the marks of Your feet as He tries to soothe Your jealous anger Lord Krsna has become extremely handsome. When, decorated with nectar red lac by me, will Your feet become very splendid? 44 O graceful artist, O Queen, when will this maidservant happily place a sweet jasmine-garland filled with humming bees on Your gracefully sloping shoulders, touched in the rasa dance by Lord Krsna, who has become a moon shining with amorous passion? 45 O girl with charming limbs, O girl with a beautiful face, will this maidservant nearby hand You the articles of worship when, surrounded by Your friends, You are eager at heart to devotedly worship the sun-god on an alter of suryamani jewels? 46 O girl with beautiful thighs, employing the hands of Your friends, such as myself, will You place before Lord Krsna the many delicious foods You very carefully cooked by the order of the queen of Vraja?

47 O beautiful one, when, lovingly touching her forehead to the forehead of they, like me, who had brought the feast, will the jubilant queen of Vraja, like a loving mother, ask me, because I am Your maidservant, about Your welfare? 48 O Queen, will I place before You the prasadam remnants tasted by the lotus mouth of Lord Krsna and respectfully brought by Danistha-gopi? 49 O girl whose limbs are anointed with kunkuma, when will I carefully feed You, Lalita, and Your other friends many kinds of ambrosia foods and nectar drinks mixed with the remnants of what was directly tasted by Lord Krsna? 50 O restless-eyed one, when will I lovingly give You sweet drinking-water scented with fresh patala flowers and camphor, water to rinse Your mouth, a toothbrush twig, and other things? 51 O Queen, when, with great love, will I carefully light an abundance of aromatic incense, fan You, and perform other suitable services as You take Your meal? 52 O sweet-limbed girl, when, the hairs of my body standing upright in ecstasy, will I place a betel leaf filled with betel nuts and camphor into the lotus flower of Your mouth? 53 O Queen, O beloved of Lord Krsna, will Lalita worship you with an arati lamp as Your other friends worship You with auspicious new songs and flowers and this maidservant, thinking You millions of times more dear than her own lifes breath, worships You with a camara whisk? 54 O Queen, when, eloquently joking with Lalita and Your other friends, will You decorate with a nap the charming pastime-bed I made with my own hands? 55 O merciful one, O girl with the beautiful heart, will the beautiful and auspicious time come when this maidservant massages Your feet and Rupa Manjari massages Your two lotus hands? 56 O girl with the beautiful face, on the strength of some good fortune will I, as a vine of devotion here, in a secret place with Your affectionate friends, attain the remnants You had spit out and the waves of nectar water that washed Your lotus feet? 57 O Queen, during Your meal will You take some nectar from Your own lotus mouth and lovingly give it to me, whose heart has gone to You? 58 O Queen, will my two eyes someday attain You as, stumbling because of the happiness rising in Your heart, and the hairs of Your body standing erect, You walk to the town of Vrajas king in order to prepare a nectar feast for Lord Madhava? 59 Will Rupa Manjari lead You on the path with Lalita and Visakha at Your two sides, Your friends all around, and me holding Your delicate waist from behind? 60-61 When will Danistha, seeing it in the distance, affectionately lead You, in my presence, to Nandisvara, the great abode of the king of Vraja, which is filled with affectionate gopi friends, which is even more important than the Govardhana Hill worshipped by Vraja, which is very dear to the prince of Vraja, and which is filled with the tumultuous sounds of the eloquent gopas and the lowing of the surabhi cows? 62 O sweet one, O talented one, when, washing Your auspicious lotus feet, entering the kitchen, bowing down before the queen of Vraja and the other elder gopis, and cooking a nectar feast, will You plunge me into an ocean of bliss? 63 O Queen, when will You be seen, Your head bowed and Your face blossoming with happiness as You place the ambrosia foods and nectar drinks for Lord Madhava in the hand of Rohini devi? 64 O sweet girl, when will Your lotus face, its passionate sidelong glances seen by Lord Madhava during the feast in the company of His elders, fill me with happiness? 65 When will You be seen as You gaze at the prince of Vraja, His cheeks sweet with a smile, as He wanders in the forest fulfilling His vow to protect the surabhi cows, or as He is embraced by His mother, her heart overwhelmed? 66 O girl bashful at heart, O girl with the beautiful face, seeing You happily taking Your meal, according to Your promise, with your dear friends and with the queen of Vraja, who is more affectionate than millions and trillions of mothers, will I at once attain bliss in my heart? 67 O girl whose eyes are restless as khanjana birds, seeing You with an embrace, with kissing Your head, and with many loving glances, loved by the queen of Vraja as if You were her own daughter, will I celebrate a great festival of transcendental bliss in my heart? 68 O friend Rupa Manjari, will I, following behind, lead our Queen, now a dancing arena for waves of amorous passion, Her large eyes wide open, and your arm affectionately placed about the vine of Her waist, to the pastime forest grove decorated by the presence of Lord Hari? 69 O friend, within my sight will Queen Radha with You decorate Her beloved with flower ornaments in a forest cottage by the shore of Her lake? 70 O beautiful one, hearing from the parrot Vicaksana of Your rendezvous with the prince of Vraja, will I happily decorate You with elegant garments, flower earrings, and necklaces?

71 O Queen, when will I decorate the splendid doorway with garlands of many flowers filled with buzzing bees and with many splendid pictures of Kama drawn in kunkuma? O moon-faced girl, when will I decorate the bed in the cottage named Madananandada with networks of flowers? 72 O girl as fair as gold, will I happily and gently massage Your lotus feet as You rest Your head against the arm of the prince of Vraja, His lotus feet worshipped by Rupa Manjaris hands? 73 Will I see You, Your eyebrows knitted and Your eyes burning with pride as Lord Madhusudana, the crown on the heads of expert jesters, stops You near Govardhana Hill on the pretext of collecting a toll? 74 O sweet-faced girl, when, seeing Lord Mukunda because of the breeze carrying the fragrance of Your slender form on some pretext leave the pastime-bed Candravali with her own hand decorated with jasmine flowers, and, like a black bee, meet You at the lake shore, will I shine with pride? 75 O sweet, moon-faced girl, when will we see the new pastimes You enjoy with the Lord of Your life and with Your friends at Your sweet lake filled everywhere with the humming of intoxicated bees, the cooing of birds, and hosts of splendid, blossoming lotuses? 76 O girl with the beautiful thighs, when will Lord Krsna, who floods me with an ocean of bliss, happily decorate You with many kinds of flowers on the splendid lake shore crowded with blossoming flowers and forests full of humming bees? 77 As Her limbs blossom with happiness, will my Queens hair, decorated by jubilant, trembling Lord Hari with many types of slightly blossomed flowers, many large gunjas, and many splendid peacock feathers, all hastily brought by a certain happy girl, bring bliss to my eyes? 78 O girl with the beautiful face, seeing Lord Madhava struck with a lotus flower by intoxicated You in a flurry of amorous pastimes, will I try to hide the smile on my face? 79 When, O girl with the beautiful face, as You sing sweet love songs with the prince of Vraja, Your splendid graceful shoulder embraced by His long arms and He embraced by Your beautiful arms, will You give me transcendental bliss? 80 O Queen, when will I hide the flute that You won from Lord Hari in the dice game, broke, and tossed to me? 81 O girl with the beautiful face, when, the hairs of my body standing up in ecstasy, will I fan You as You lay on a pastime bed of jasmine flowers in the temple of bliss of amorous love, smiling and conversing very sweetly with Your beloved? 82 O Queen, O girl whose face is a blossoming lotus flower, O personification of shyness, when, Your two lotus feet exhausted by walking from the rendezvous, will You affectionately call this shameless person by name and engage her in massaging them? 83 O granddaughter Radha, the time for You to worship the sungod has come! Where are You? Will Mukhara devi, appearing like the personification of nectar as she angrily speaks in this way, delight me? 84 O Queen, with my eyes and ears will I serve the nectar of Your words scented with the camphor of Your smile? 85 O pious one, when, picking flowers with Your sweet and crooked friends, You pretend to quarrel with the Lord of Your life and You angrily leave Him, will You fill me with boundless happiness? 86 O merciful one, sweetly begged by Madhava with many unbearable appeals, will this agitated person fall down before Lalitas feet to break Your jealous anger? 87 O wise and solemn one, will Your coronation as the Queen of Vrndavan forest, jubilantly performed by Paurnamasi with a great festival of auspicious singing, dancing and the music of vinas and other instruments, and with many pitchers of pure, scented water, be seen by me? 88 O girl with the beautiful face, when on the full moon day of the month of Sravana Your brother Sridama pleases the miser Jatila by giving her ten thousand cows and then takes You home for a visit, will, as You melt with weeping from both happiness and sorrow, Your parents lovingly embrace You in my presence? 89 O merciful one, when, because I feel shy before Your friends, will You take me to a cave in the king of mountains and there tutor me in the art of melodious singing? 90 O Queen, when, requested by Lalita devi, will You affectionately ask me, my head bowed with shyness in the assembly, to recite many splendid and sweet poems? 91 O Queen, when, on the shore of Your lake, in a grove filled with humming bees, will You teach me to play the kacchapi lute? 92 O Queen, when, because Your friends are too shy to act, will You hint that I should restring the favorite necklace, broken in Your pastimes? 93 O Queen, when, after looking in all directions, will You take the chewed betel nuts from Your mouth and affectionately place them in mine? 94 O girl with the moon face, will clever hints will You send me to quickly get the favorite charming sash forgotten in the amorous passionate battle with the Lord of Your life? 95 O grave and sober one, after angrily punishing this person for a very slight fault, will You again glance on her with a little mercy when Lalita brings her before You?

(96) tavaivasmi tavaivasmi na jivami tvaya vina iti vijnaya devi tvam naya mam caranantikam I am Yours! I am Yours! I cannot live without You! O Queen, please understand this and bring me to Your feet. 97 O restless-eyed girl, Your lake is the eternal home of You and Your beloved. My residence is there. There I stay. 98 O beautiful lake, my Queen eternally enjoys amorous pastimes with Her beloved on your shore. If you are most dear to Them, then, please mercifully show me now the girl who is my life and soul. 99 My Queen will not leave your company for even a moment. Because You are both the same age you are the realm of Her playful joking pastimes. O girl with the beautiful face, O Visakha, please show me my Queen and save the life of me, on the verge of death because I am separated from Her. 100 O Lord, O nectar moon of Gokula, O Lord whose cheerful face is a lotus flower, O sweetly-smiling one, O Lord melting with compassion, so I may serve You both with love please lead me to the place where Your beloved enjoys loving pastimes with You. 101 My Queen, even a drop of the beauty of the tip of whose lotus toenail the goddess of fortune is not able to attain, if You do not give charity to my eyes, then what is the use of my life, ablaze with a great forest-fire of sufferings? 102 For me somehow the present moment is flooded by a nectar ocean of many hopes. If You do not give me Your mercy, then of what use to me are this life, the land of Vraja, and Sri Krsna, the enemy of Baka? 103 O merciful one, if You will not give Your great mercy to suffering me, then what is the use of all these words? What will my long service to Your lake accomplish? 104 O affectionate one, I pray that this Vilapa-kusumanjali, which, with much weeping to attain Your loving service, and with a heart burning with pain, I take from my chest and place at Your lotus feet, may give You a little pleasure.

Sri Dana-keli-cintamani
(The Cintamani Jewel of the Toll Pastime)

1 May Sri Sri Gandharva-Giridharis [Radha-Krsnas] intently playful quarrel over a toll of milk-products at the base of Govardhana Hill, where Their friends, filled with hundreds of desires for their friends victory, spoke many clever, crooked words, protect you all. 2 Although I am blind, by the power of the effulgence of the pollen of Srila Rupa Gosvamis splendid lotus feet, I now take the eternally-new dana-keli pastime jewel created by the meeting of the flowing stream of Sri Radha and the ocean of Lord Giridhari, both very beautiful, and both filled with nectar waves of exalted joking words. 3 All glories to Sahara-grama, the residence of Upananda, the brother and intelligent minister of Gokulas king. Upanandas handsome and virtuous son is Subhadra, and Subhadras highly qualified wife is Kundalata. 4 Near Subhadras house is a splendid aromatic garden filled with many flowers, bees, birds and splendid trees. As she played in that garden, Kundalata asked her friend Sumukhi: Where are Radha and Krsna now? What are They doing? 5 When she drank the stream of these madhvika-nectar words flowing from the lotus flower of Kundalatas mouth and sweetened with the camphor of questions about Sri Sri Radha-Giridhari, eager, beautiful Sumukhi, filled with ecstasy and the hairs on her body upright, began to tell the news of Their pastimes. 6 Affectionately attached to Balarama, his own son, and Krsna, his friends son, Maharaja Vasudeva arranged that Bhagavan Bhaguri perform a Vedic sacrifice for Their benefit. Accompanied by many sages, Bhagavan Bhaguri lovingly performed that sacrifice at Govinda-kunda with great secrecy. 7 The pure-hearted gopis quickly arrived at that sacrificial arena and, taking the milk-products they carried on their heads, offered them to the sages. The sages were very pleased, and in reciprocation at once blessed them and gave them gifts of many jewel ornaments, in this way fulfilling all their desires. 8-10 When, staying at Her own lake [Radha-kunda], where the glistening, pure waters are filled with blossoming lotuses and lilies, and where all around are groves of many kinds of trees beautiful with many flowers filled with bees humming, She heard from the mouth of the parrot Suksmadhi about the secret yajna, She became agitated at heart and, longing to go there, with Her dear gopi-friends bathed, decorated Herself with nice garments and ornaments, anointed Herself both with kunkuma and the oin tment of krsnapranaya, with great purity worshipped the sun-god, passionately meditated on Krsna as the moon of Vraja shining in the sky of Her heart and, carrying a golden jar of aromatic ghee on Her head, Radhika jubilantly left Her lake [to attend the yajna]. 11 O girl with beautiful teeth, [walking] on the pathways, smiling and smiling as She tells the news of Krsna [to Her friends], a puppet in loves hands, suffering from not seeing Her lover, and glancing again and again at affectionate Lalita and witty Visakha, She enjoys [speaking] crooked joking words to Her hearts content. 12-13 She saw the regal mountain proud of the touch of Lord Giridharis hand, where are many trees with branches filled with splendid aromatic flowers making wandering bumblebees mad with the sweet taste of their pollen, many excellent fruits, roots, bulbs, luxuriant grasses, deer, sweetly singing birds, and many other creatures, and where in many places are jewel thrones, and in other places splendid mountain peaks, flowing mountain-streams, 14 Approaching Govardhana Hill, joyfully smelling the sweet aroma of ghee the great sages continually poured into the sacred fires, and by the nectar of happiness made eager to go quickly [to the sacrifice], She rebuked the heavy breasts and hips that forced Her to move slowly. 15-16 Learning of the gopiss imminent arrival from the parrot-king, Krsna smiled, assembled His priya-narma friends, and made a makeshift toll-booth from a black bench on Govardhana Hill. When Krsna saw smiling Radha, who wore a red sari and ornaments and carried on Her head a golden pot of ghee as She walked with the gracefulness of a regal swan in the company of Her gopi-friends who also carried pots of ghee, Krsna, the prince of gopas, said: 17 A full moon comes before Me and turns My eyes into two cakora birds that live by drinking its moonbeams. In this moon are two splendid bandhuka flowers disguised as lips. These two flowers have turned My eyes into two bumblebees eager to drink its honey. Here are also two round pomegranates disguised as breasts. These pomegranates have turned My eyes into two parrots eager to taste them. Who is

this wonderful lotus flower that has appeared before Me? This lotus has transformed Me into a swan that passionately yearns to play among its petals. 18 When lotus petal-eyed Sri Krsna came to understand that the being before Him was not a lotus flower but a beautiful young girl, His heart became agitated with love for Her. Filled with longing to attain Her and uncertain whether He could attain Her, He again spoke. 19 Is this a blossoming campaka vine? No. Campaka vines are stationary, and this being moves. Is this a lightning flash? No. Lightning shines only for a moment in its sky-borne cloud, and this being remains continually before Me. Is this a river with splendid waves? No. For rivers are formless, and this being has a very beautiful form. As Srimati Radharani and Her friends heard these words, they approached nearer to Lord Krsna. 20 I cannot believe that this is the girl Radha with Her many friends. As I reflect on the identity of this person I can only conclude that this must be the beautiful supreme goddess of love, who has now appeared before Me accompanied by Her various potencies, such as embracing and kissing, which have assumed the forms of these young girls. 21 This fair-complexioned girl, who is a splendid pennant of fame decorating Maharaja Vrsabhanus dynasty, a wave of glistening splendour from the jewel-mine of Kirtida-devis womb. Sridamas beautiful and pious younger sister, a flood of glittering moonlight that delights the lotus flowers of Her dearest friends, and a charming roof under which the great peacock of My lifes breath resides, is Sri Radhika Herself! 22 The corners of her beautiful restless eyes gazing at Lord Govinda, the crest jewel of Govardhana Hill, Tungavidya-devi smiled and said: 23 "Radha, this is Your dear friend Krsna who has now climbed to this summit of Govardhana, the king of mountains. This is the same passionate Krsna who hid in the darkness and stole the jar of yoghurt. This is the great thief of the gopis' property." 24 Lord Kesava was so handsome that His bodily lustre completely defeated the great pride of the dark monsoon clouds. He was like Kamadeva's club, raised to smash the advancing armies of the gopis' peaceful composure. He was like a splendid decoration on the silk-turban crown of Govardhana, the king of mountains. Radha embraced Him with a crooked sidelong glance, She wavered with unsteadiness as She spoke the following words: 25 My dear beautiful-faced friends, What is this before us? Is it a fresh monsoon cloud? Is it a sapphire blossom? Is it a newly sprouted blue lotus flower? Is it the amorous sporting of musk perfume? Ah, it is none of these. Because this form before us causes Me to burn with passionate desire, I know this must be the wonderful dark moon of Gokula standing before Us on Govardhana Hill. 26 No. This cannot be the dark moon, for even the full moon and all the stars are not as splendidly beautiful as this. I think this must be smiling King Kamadeva, accompanied by his friends, the cuckoo, bumble-bee, spring season and mango. My friends, I think King Kamadeva has come here just to meet you. 27 This is the playful object of maternal love for Vrajas queen. This is the nectarean fruit of the saintly tree of the cowherds king. This is the sole medicine for protecting the dear cowherd boys. This is Madhava, the great ocean where Balaramas life breath performs pastimes. 28 Overwhelmed with passion, Radha stared at Lord Giridhari. Her body became bathed with tears and perspiration. O my friend Sudati, She trembled, and only with great difficulty was able to keep the glistening pot of ghee from slipping out of Her lotus hand. 29 Sri Krsna was dressed in the most charming and elegant garments and ornaments as befitting the wealthiest of toll-collectors, carried a flute and buffalo-horn bugle, and was accompanied by many cowherd boyfriends holding sticks in the role of toll-collectors. Smiling with contempt, the gopis stared at Krsna. They gracefully approached Him. 30 Seeing the sweet-hearted charming gopis maddened with anger, Madhumangala smiled, and angrily spoke the following words to Sri Krsna: 31 Intoxicated by youthfulness and accompanied by Her maddened friends, proud Radha, although only a weak woman, now approaches You. O friend, why do You not forcibly check Her before she places Her hands upon You? 32 As He gracefully walked, Sri Krsna moved the bells on His body, making a tinkling sound filled with all amorous potencies and fully able to defeat the approaching lion of Sri Radha. As He bewildered Her with these amorous potencies, He spoke to His gopa-associates the following words of pretended anger: 33 Madhumangala speaks the truth. These wicked girls are ignoring My toll and proudly going away. Just see their arrogance. My friends, I will now single-handedly force them to pay the toll. 34 Sound the flutes and buffalo-horn bugles! Stop these girls! With My own arms I will personally stop Radha, the leader of these crooked-hearted girls! 35 O Subala, O leader of thousands of toll-collectors, you forcibly stop Visakha! O Ujjvala, O protector of the toll-booth, O My friend, you stop Citra-devi! O Vasanta, O leader of the assembly, you stop Campakalata and Tungavidya! O Kokila, O most expert leader of thousands of guides, you stop Lalita.

36 Speaking many arrogant words, the cowherd boys surrounded Radha and Her friends and stopped them from proceeding. Radha jubilantly assailed Krsna with many crooked words that which were actually disguised prayers of glorification. Krsna appeared to become angry, and He said to proud Radha: 37 My dear proud thief, I know that You regularly travel in these forest pathways, carefully hiding these milkproducts and lucratively selling them in the black market. By good fortune You have now fallen into My hands. I will now arrest You, bind You with ropes, and take You before King Kamadeva. He will certainly be pleased with Me for bringing You, and he will reward Me by giving Me the precious jewel of Your youthfulness. 38 Should I actually bring you insignificant girls before the great King Kamadeva? No. I should not bother him with your tiny antics. Instead I will simply teach you that I am the unrivalled monarch of this town of Vraja. 39 My dear thief, if You do not immediately pay this toll, I will bind You with this garland of forest flowers. I will bite Your lips with My teeth. I shall scratch Your breasts with the ten weapons that are My fingernails. In this way I will punish You for Your crime. 40 As restless, fickle-minded Krsna spoke in this way He began to grab the corner of Radha's red sari. Beautiful, intelligent Radha, gazing at Him from the corners of Her quickly moving eyes, angrily said to Supreme Personality of Godhead: 41 Stay far away! Dont touch Me! You are a cruel, shameless rake, and I am a pious pure-hearted girl bringing this ghee to the sacrificial arena. Your slightest touch will contaminate this ghee and make it unsuitable for offering in the auspicious sacrifice. 42 Krsna then said: My dear large-eyed girl, can You not see that I have become purified, sprinkled with perspiration by the ocean of amorous love? I have come to this place specifically to perform the maha-ujjvala sacrifice along with You as My religious wife. 43-44 A cuckoo in the forest then addressed the following words to Lord Krsna: "O friend, just flatter this girl with sweet words, and then quickly collect Your toll from Her." Hearing these words, Sri Krsna, who enjoys limitless wonderful pastimes, placed His left hand on His auspicious left hip and began to smile. Carrying the glittering golden pot of ghee on Her head, Sri Radha gazed at Krsna from the corners of Her restless eyes. With pretended shyness She covered half Her face with Her sari. Sri Krsna said to Her: 45 My dear Radha, please stand for a moment by this toll-booth, and let this pleasant breeze, which carries the fragrance of lotus flowers, relieve You of all fatigue. Take a moment to all My assistant to record the payment of Your toll in glistening fresh ghee, and make Your cruel friends immediately do the same. 46 O scribe Madhumangala, come here. Truthfully record My toll-payment in your ledger, and carefully read out loud to Me what you have written. If out of greed you do not record all I have given so you can later claim it as your own, then you will certainly be punished by the authorities. 47 Radha, come here. Pay careful attention as Madhumangala writes in his toll-register. Pay Your toll. Do not quarrel. Sweeten Your mouth by chewing these betelnuts. Make this a nice day. This is a very auspicious occasion. 48 O Madhumangala, O best of scribes, O My friend, I will accurately enumerate the extent of this toll payment. Please carefully write as I speak. 49 My dear girl with the beautiful face, each of the lovely vraja-gopis must give five heaps of sparkling diamonds as toll-payment for her jar of ghee. All this priceless wealth is now Mine. 50 For the red sindura mark in Your parted hair You must pay the toll of one hundred thousand glittering crystal stones, and for Your beautiful braids, which glisten like black mascara, You must pay the toll of two hundred thousand charming sapphires. 51 O girl with the beautiful eyebrows, for Your forehead, which shines like a golden half-moon, You must pay the toll of one hundred thousand splendid moonstones, and for the tilaka markings drawn in musk on Your forehead You must pay the toll of one hundred million moon-shaped pendants studded with sapphires. 52 For Your bending eyebrows You must pay the toll of fifty thousand quivers studded with sapphires, and for Your beautiful ears You must pay the toll of many murva-bowstrings made of charming new lapis-lazuli stones. 53 For the arrow of Your sidelong glance You must pay the toll of one million sapphire-arrows, and for Your two beautiful eyes You must pay the toll of one million aromatic emerald lotus flowers. 54 For Your nose, as beautiful as sesame flower, You must pay the toll of many gold pendants in the shape of young parrots beaks, and for Your lovely cheeks You must pay the toll of many charming golden mirrors more splendid than crystal. 55 For Your beautiful face, which eclipses the glory of all other faces, You must pay the toll of one hundred thousand full moons, one hundred thousand blossoming lotus flowers, and one hundred thousand jewelstudded golden mirrors. For Your chin You must pay the toll of many precious gems.

56 My dear girl as lovely as a lotus flower, for Your lips as beautiful as bimba fruits You must pay a toll of one red lotus flower fashioned of rubies. For Your teeth, which rebuke splendid ripe pomegranate seeds, You must pay a toll of one hundred thousand peerless sikhara gems. 57 My dear moon-faced girl, if the male bee that is the dot of musk on the chin of Your lotus face will lovingly embrace the smiling female bee of My eyes, then that is sufficient payment of toll. I will not ask any further toll for Your musk dot. 58 For the beauty of Your splendid red tongue, which is like a spoon perfectly dipping into the nectar ocean of melodious song, You must at once pay a toll of many goblets filled with sweet madhvika nectar fragrant with camphor. 59 For Your blossoming gentle smile You must pay a toll of ten million beautiful, glistening, white pearl lotus flowers. For Your charming sweet conversation You must pay a toll of ten thousand gold pots filled with the sweetest nectar. 60 For Your beautiful golden earrings You must pay a toll of one glittering magnet. For the pearl set in gold on the tip of Your nose You must pay a toll of many crystal necklaces. 61 For the aromatic betel nuts enthusiastically dancing with playful happiness on the stage of Your mouth You must pay a toll of sending them to dance in My mouth. 62 For Your neck beautiful as a conchshell You must pay a toll of many golden conchshells. For Your lovely round arms You must pay a toll of many beautiful, glistening, smooth golden lotus stems. For Your two hands You must pay a toll of many lapis-lazuli lotus flowers. 63 For Your charming fingers You must pay a toll of many aromatic golden campaka flowers. For the beautiful golden plate that is Your back You must pay a toll of sleeping by My side and enjoying many pastimes with Me on a bed of flowers in the grove of Vrndavana. 64 My dear girl with the beautiful face, Your two pitcherlike breasts removed the pride of the two protuberances on the heads of maddened regal elephants fragrant with he aroma of ichor. For these breasts You must pay a toll of one hundred thousand pomegranate, bilva, and tala fruits made of gold. 65 Your waist is as charmingly slender as the waist of the most handsome lioness. Your waist is the great reservoir of the nectar of amorous love. Your waist is beautifully bound by the sash of three lovely folds of skin, and then covered by a red cloth and a chain of tinkling bells. The toll required for this waist is very great, although if You offer Me a suitable bribe I will conceal this particular item from the scrutiny of My master, the great King Kamadeva. You may bribe Me by immediately placing in My hand the hidden jewel that fastens Your belt. 66 For Your broad hips You must pay a toll of this belt. Although You are afraid to loosen this tight belt and You present many crooked appeals to avoid this toll, do not hesitate. Remove this garment and pay the toll. Paying this toll will bring You great satisfaction for it will cause the moon of King Kamadeva to rise here. 67 For the crest jewels decorating the hoods of the line-of-hairs serpent rising from the lake of Your navel, You must pay a toll of nine million beautiful sapphires, rubies and lapis-lazuli stones. 68 For Your gracefully moving hips covered by exquisite blue garments and a charming red sash you must pay a toll of nine hundred million glittering golden thrones. As the king of toll-collectors I require these thrones as My sitting places. 69 For Your thighs, which are more beautiful than the elephants graceful trunk, You must pay a toll of many plantain trees fashioned of gold. For Your two lotus feet decorated with pleasantly tinkling ankle-bells, You must pay a toll of many blossoming flowers fashioned of rubies. 70 For the beautiful waves of tilting folds of skin on Your slender abdomen shining with the nectar of amorous pastimes You must pay a toll of two anubhava jewels. For the reddish moonlight of Your fingernails and toenails You must pay a toll of many jewel ornaments fashioned in the shape of moons. 71 For You beautiful knees, which destroy the pride of shining golden jewel-cases, You must pay a toll of ten million golden jewel-cases. 72 For Your necklaces and other ornaments You must give the peerless beautiful touchstone hanging from Your delicate neck. For the tinkling sounds of Your bracelets, anklets and bells, You must give the two great jewels over Your heart. 73 For Your blue and red bodice and other garments You must pay a toll of many sapphire and coral necklaces. For Your pet parrot, doe, peahen, lute, toy lotus flower, as well as for Your dancing and other playful activities, You must pay a toll of ten million precious gems. 74 My dear girl with the beautiful face, Your golden complexion seems to have created many golden forests, mountains, villages, and planets. Your golden complexion has completely defeated the great host of campaka flowers with its beautiful splendour. For this complexion You must pay a toll of many millions of golden mountains.

75 The breeze moving over the aromatic ocean of lotus flowers and kunkuma resting on Your golden limbs has perfumed this forest of Vraja. My friend, I cannot see anything that may be a proper toll-payment for this fragrance, and therefore You must give Me Your constant association to pay the toll. 76 For the beautiful pictures of flowering vines, lotuses, and dolphins drawn in glistening kunkuma and musk on the canvas of Your body You must pay a toll of making My body fragrant by always splashing it with the delightful flood of Your sweet fragrance. 77 O girl with the beautiful thighs, for the enchanting and auspicious markings on your lotus feet anointed with red lac You must pay a toll of the necklace of red half-moons that is Your fingernails. You must place this necklace on My chest for many billions of years. 78 My dear delightful girl, Your singing drowns all the universes, even up to Vaikunthaloka, with unparalleled bliss. Your singing makes the hearts of Your rivals tremble with despair. Your singing is glorified and worshipped with great love by Laksmi and the other goddesses. Your singing is like a great drum heralding the appearance of supreme auspiciousness. Your singing is sweeter than the honey of the lotus flower. You must allow Me to hear this singing. That is the toll-payment for Your sweet voice. 79 Your auspicious name, Radha, is sweeter than glistening nectar, and it makes the residents of all universes ecstatic, the hairs of their bodies standing up with bliss. What can be a suitable toll payment for Your name? My dear Radha, You must now give Me the splendid jewel that is Your playful pastimes with Me. That is the toll-payment I demand of Your name. 80 The glorious demigoddesses all praise Your splendid and playful intelligence, expanded fame, profound thoughts, and host of other glorious and auspicious qualities. For these qualities now pay a toll of many heaps of sparkling pearls, diamonds and beautiful sapphires. 81 My friend, for Your graceful movements, which defeat the gracefulness of a maddened elephant, and which are like so many promises of future amorous bliss, You must pay a toll of many swan-shaped ornaments fashioned of large pearls glistening as many stars. For the graceful gestures of Your hands You must pay a toll of many rubies. 82 For Your beautiful ears You must now pay a toll of earrings and other ornaments. I think that by paying this toll You will earn great piety, a long life, fame, and glory. 83 For Your beauty, shyness, humbleness, scholarship, melodious singing, and host of other transcendental virtues, You must give me all Your friends as toll-payment. For Your difficult-to-attain ecstatic love for Me You must give Me Your friend Lalita as toll-payment. For Your affectionate auspicious joking pastimes with Me You must give Visakha as toll-payment. 84 Your priceless loveliness rebukes the beauty of ten million goddesses of fortune. You are the crest jewel among the Vraja-gopis, each of whom is more enchanting than one hundred thousand Laksmis. For Your exquisite beauty You must give to Me Your body as toll-payment. 85 After hearing these sweet words, which eclipsed the pride of the nectar-ocean, beautiful Radha crookedly glanced at crooked Krsna. She smiled with playful anger and spoke the following words: 86 My dear gopi-friends, I will not travel on this path, which has become polluted by this seducer of young girls. Aha! Not hearing My words, Lalita now proudly places Me in this rascals hand. 87 Although She yearned to hear such playful joking words from Krsna, Radha crookedly rebuked Him with these angry words. When Radha, whose beautiful face is worshipped by the moon itself, began to walk away with Her friends, She was forcibly stopped by Krsna, the moon of Vraja. 88 As she heard Mukundas joking words, which were sprinkled with sweet smiles and filled with hidden double meanings, Lalitas eyes smiled with happiness. Artificially checking the great happiness in her heart, she spoke the following words as if filled with anger. 89 We have never seen or heard of any toll in milk-products in town of Vraja. This so-called toll is simply an invention of the king of bandits to cheat the gopis. 90 My dear friends, if you wish to rescue yourselves from the hard coils of this black snake Krsna, then just go before the queen of Vraja and narrate all these happenings. Do this and this black snake will be very happy to leave us in peace. 91 Lord Mukunda could easily understand the actual desire hidden deep within Radhas heart. He gently smiled and spoke the following crooked words to Lalita and the other gopis. 92 My dear beautiful Tungavidya, each day you grow increasing proud of being more learned than the other young girls of Vraja. I think you should give a vast quantity of gold as the toll-payment for your learning. 93 My dear beautiful Citra, who in this world is not delighted by Your wonderfully charming gentle words? If this were not so then why do the learned doctors of rhetoric daily proclaim that your words are sweeter than nectar? 94 My dear beautiful girl, I cannot see anything that can be a suitable toll-payment for your sweet words. For this reason I think You should take the nectar of the soft, beautiful, sweet, glistening bimba fruits of Your

lips, mix it with the fragrant camphor of your smile, and offer that nectar as the only possible toll-payment for your sweet words. 95 My dear friend Campakalata, your beauty is like a trembling campaka flower made of molten gold. As toll payment you must decorate My dark limbs with the charming garland of these campaka flowers of your beauty. 96 My dear sweet-limbed Visakha, the words from your mouth are like honey mixed with the nectar of transcendental mellows and perfumed by the camphor of many pleasant jokes. In all the three worlds I do not think there is any suitable toll-payment for your words. 97 My dear Lalita, you possess great learning, wit, graceful dancing, charming smiles and laughter, consummate beauty and a host of other transcendental virtues. For all these virtues you must pay a toll of surrendering to Me your expert instructions to the gopis in the matter of pride and jealous anger, as well as your expert pretended hard-heartedness. 98 At this point Kundalata said: My dear Sumukhi, these narrations of the charming pastimes of the divine couple, who play in Vrajabhumi are like nectar. A single drop of this sweet nectar enables the drinker to immediately reject hundred of inferior material desires. Although for thousands of times I repeatedly drink this ocean of nectar in the astonished cup of my ear, I remain always unsatisfied and simply desire to continue drinking without interruption. 99 Kundalata said: Please narrate these topics again and again. Hearing these words, Sumukhi became drowned in an ocean of satisfaction and the hairs of her body stood up in ecstasy. With a voice full of love, moon-faced Sumukhi spoke the following words. 100 "When the gopis heard Krsna's toll-claims they all laughed heartily. Witty, playful Tungavidya smiled and said: 101 My dear Madhumangala, you and your friends are not very strong. How will you carry all these goods collected as toll-payments? I think you should bring from home many carts drawn by great camels, powerful bulls, mules, and other domestic animals, just to carry all this. 102 Lord Krsnas playful words were so sweet they seemed to rebuke the flood of nectar streaming down from the moon planet. When Radha heard these words Her enchanting eyes opened wide with ecstatic bliss, although with charming deceptiveness she carefully concealed the happiness she felt. 103 Sri Radha is the supreme heroine, expert at enjoying splendid transcendental pastimes. She is the thief that steals the great ruby that is the price of Vraja's thoughts. She is the great goddess of eloquence expert at speaking charming amorous words. Sri Radha, who is expert at making words dance, proceeded to quarrel with Lord Giridhari. She said: 104 My Lord, You do not understand our position. We are not Your maidservants of slaves. Neither are we Your submissive Candravali or Your Padmika. You have arrested us in this solitary place deep in the frightening jungle, and on the pretext of collecting a toll You are plundering our wealth just as a highwayman. 105 Krsna then said: My dear Radha, please do not uselessly quarrel in this way. Please understand how I am instructing You for Your own benefit and dutifully pay the toll. If the great king Kamadeva hears that You refused to pay the toll he will become angry and punish You severely. At that time I will not be responsible for Your sufferings. 106 Radha then said: If Krsna has deceptively invented a toll that does not actually exist, I hereby declare that He will bear the curse of His beloved Candravali on His head. Sumukhi then said: O My friend, Kundalata, in this way the smiling actress Radha, who stays in the caves of Govardhana Hill, made the entire assembly burst into laughter with Her dancing words. 107 Krsna then said: Your intimate friend Visakha is both intelligent and clear-thinking. Please confer with her and decide what is to be done. Do not follow the advice of wild, intoxicated Lalita. 108 Radha replied: O moon among the monarchs of toll-collecting, I am delighted by Your wonderful words. I feel grateful to You and I wish to please You also in reciprocation. I will now please You by immediately bringing to this place the Garuda bird named Abhimanyu, who is very eager to personally see the dancing of the snake of Your charming boldness . 109 As soon as these words were spoken, beautiful Visakha, expert at joking and filled with all auspicious virtues, eagerly began to lead Radha to the village of Vraja, until she was violently checked by the villain Hari. 110 Citra-gopi then said: My dear chaste friends, let us protect our religious principles from this libidinous rascal Krsna. Let us immediately run home, or let us flee to the sacrificial arena to offer these jars of ghee. 111 Hearing these words, Tungavidya raised her curved eyebrows and seemed to have become angry. She said: O foolish Citra, who are you needlessly afraid of the words of this timid little cowherd boy?

112 All glories to Sri Radha, the eternally victorious queen of Vrndavana forest. All glories to Lalita-devi, Her powerful prime minister. Just see, this brahmana clown Madhumangala wished to collect a toll-payment that would ruin Her forest. I will now bind this rascal with ropes and lead him away as my captive. 113 O friend Kundalata, when Madhumangala heard these words he became frightened, He, Subala, and all the cowherd boys assembled around Lord Krsnacandra, who laughed and spoke the following words in a great heroic voice: 114 O best of brahmanas, do not fear. I am powerful as Lord Nrsimhadeva. Simply by seeing Me strong and violent Lalita and fearsome Tungavidya will quickly flee, leaving even their garments and ornaments behind. 115 Hearing this heroic statement, Lalita addressed Nrsimha-Krsna in the following words: My dear Lord Nrsimha, the demon Hiranyakasipu has incarnated as the breasts of Candravali. Please scratch these terrible breasts with Your claws, and thus delight Your devotee Prahlada. When Lord Krsna heard these playful words He could not help but laugh out loud. 116 Krsna said: My dear Radha, if You wish to gain great wealth, and many new ornaments at this sacrifice, then You and Your friends should go there immediately, and pay this toll at some other time. However, You must leave Lalita here as collateral to ensure that You return here to pay Your debt. 117 Radha said: O seducer of young girls, because of what terrible past sin has destiny placed us in Your hands? Just see My fate! You are now forcing Me to place famous Lalita in Your hands. 118 My dear beautiful friend, when Lalita heard these words she became red with anger. Intoxicated by the nectar of transcendental mellows, she spoke the following crooked words to her gopi-friends: 119 Sudevi should quickly go and bring the saintly Queen Yasoda! Without delay Citra should bring the crooked Jatila and her son Abhimanyu! Vrnda should at once bring a learned brahmana from the sacrifice! Bring all of them to see the dancing of this great king of dancers! 120 My dear friend Kundalata, as Lord Krsna, the moon of Vraja, heard Lalita's angry words, He fixed His thoughts on the beautiful gopi Radha, He gently smiled and, glancing for a moment at Radha, spoke the following words: 121 O crooked Radha, You continually ignore My toll. I do not think that I am an insignificant blade of grass to be rudely trampled by You. What is the use of trying to collect the toll from You in a polite and civilised way? Just see, I will now defeat the heroic Lalita and by force I will plunder the jewel of newly blossoming youthfulness decorating Your breasts. 122 My dear friend Kundalata, amorous Mukunda then tried to touch the gopis. Blinded with love for Him, the gopis stared at Him with smiling lotus faces and dancing eyes, and then, as if afraid of cruel Krsna, fled in all directions. 123 Radha then said: Millions of people in this kingdom pass this place carrying milk-products. Why do you bother us with this toll? If You are actually the master of the hills and forests of Vraja, why do You not collect toll from them? 124 When Lord Krsna, the monarch of all who are expert at relishing transcendental mellows, heard Srimati Radharanis words, He slightly raised His eyebrows, and His eyes begun to dance, and His thoughts became filled with transcendental bliss. He laughed out loud, and said to Her: 125-6 My dear girls intoxicated by drinking the honey of transcendental bliss, please hear Me. With boundless happiness I collect from the other travellers on this royal road. Every day You surreptitiously travel on this road, unobserved by Me, and thus I have not been able to collect any tolls from you. When emperor Kamadeva heard of this from one of his servants, he called Me into his presence, and angrily rebuked Me. He ordered Me: Quickly go with Your companions, and arrest these girls who refuse to pay my toll. Bind them with ropes, punish them, and bring them before me at once! 127 Although the gopis felt very happy to hear Krsnas playful words, they pretended to have become very unhappy. Carrying their pots, they fled from Krsna, running unto the slope of Govardhana Hill. 128 With happy ears Kundalata drank the nectar of the narration of these sweet pastimes. Her bodily hairs standing up, and her voice choked in ecstasy, she spoke the following words. 129 Kundalata said: Although I continually drink the nectar of the divine couples peerless pastimes, I never become satiated, and my appetite never becomes jaded. O beautiful friend, please continue your narration. When Sumukhi heard this, she said: 130 When Nandimukhi heard of these toll-pastimes, which are so dear to the divine couple, she yearned to personally see them. Unobserved by anyone, she arrived at that place and entered a little cottage in the nearby secluded grove. In that grove she became filled with wonder as she saw the wonderful pastimes of Lord Krsna and the gopis. 131 When the gopis saw her they all became jubilant. They asked about her welfare and embraced her to their hearts content. Krsna smiled and proclaimed her arrival glorious and auspicious. He recounted for her the toll-pastimes He had just then enjoyed.

132 Nandimukhi smiled as she glanced at Sri Radha who was overwhelmed with the happiness of nectarean transcendental mellows. With great delight Nandimukhi then said to supreme blissful Mukunda: 133 My dear toll-collector, now that I have heard Your narration of these supremely wonderful toll pastimes, I am filled with wonder. Now I can appreciate the words: Having see this, what more wonderful thing remains to be see? 134 My dear hero, these girls You have arrested are all very pious and saintly. Please do no tease them any more in this way, for that will ruin their good reputation in the town of Gokula. 135 Why enjoy more joking pastimes with these girls? Set them free. Free them so they may immediately go to the sacrificial ceremony. 136-7 Sri Krsna replied: Although you, rascal gopis, allow Me to see Sri Radhas charming, glorious moonlike face, you insist on carefully concealing the breasts and navel below it. In a solitary place She must immediately show them to Me. If She refuses, when King Kamadeva hears of it he will become very angry, and he will punish Us very severely. 138-9 My dear intelligent Lalita, why do you ask Me to not collect this part of the toll? Do you not know that the scribe Madhumangala is actually King Kamadevas spy, and the supremely intelligent Ujjvala, who is witnessing all of this, is a great favourite in Kamadevas court? If I do not collect this part of the toll, they will return to King Kamadeva, and on some pretext they will certainly inform him of My failure to collect this toll. King Kamadeva will certainly react very harshly. He will arrest Us all, bind Us with ropes, and cast Us into a densely dark deep prison cave. 140 As Krsna, the enemy of Kamsa, spoke these words in Nandimukhis presence, Radha pretended to burn with anger. She spoke the following words to Lord Madhava: 141 My dear Krsna, You are the killer of the demons, the younger brother of pure-hearted Balarama, and the famous son of Gopendra Nanda, who is like a kind sun that makes the lotus flowers of his subjects to blossom with prosperity. I think that because the goddess of toll-places has served You for many births she has earned the right to be the deity of the place where You speak these crooked words. 142 Tungavidya then spoke the following deceptive words to Lord Krsna: My friend is too embarrassed to speak further, I will speak on her behalf. Please hear my words. 143 My dear fickle-minded, poison-fanged, libidinous snake, quickly flee from this place and hide in Your cave before Abhimanyu, proud of his prowess in killing snakes, arrives at this place. 144 Lord Krsna replied in the following words: This girl Radha is beautiful as a lotus flower. Her breasts are like two lovely round fruits, Her hands and feet are like four red lotus flowers, Her lips are like two bandhuka flowers, and Her form is decorated with twenty-three and a half moons. This lotus flower girl may blossom with happiness only while the dark moon of her paramour Syamasundara shines, but when She sees the glaring sun of her husband rising on the horizon she will wilt with disappointment. 145 These joking words were like fragrant honey from the lotus flower of Lord Haris mouth. This honey greatly pleased all the gopis , and although Sri Radha loudly protested, She also drank this honey with great pleasure. Radha then spoke the following words, which were, in truth, very far from Her actual desire. 146 My dear little boy, please become sober. Do not be so wild and foolish. Do not forget that cruel King Kamsa reigns in the nearby town, and he will certainly punish You if You harass us. Because You are the son of Vrajas king I wish all good fortune for You, and therefore I will give You this good advice: Leave us in peace, and immediately go into the forest to take care of the surabhi cows. 147 Madhumangala then said: My friend Krsna is supremely independent. He is not different from the great King Kamadeva. With playful ease He killed Kesi and many others in the land of Vraja who were more dear to Kamsa than his own life. Why should my friend Krsna fear Your Kamsa? 148 My friend Krsna is the great transcendental Kamadeva and the little Kamadeva of this world is simply His vassal. This Kamsa of whom You speak is completely under the dominion of the little Kamadeva. If You do not peacefully pay this toll, I will write a letter of complaint to King Kamsa. He will give me an army, and I will arrest all your husbands, bind them with ropes, and imprison them. 149 That assembly was like a great pond and the beautiful gopis, experts at relishing transcendental mellows were like bumblebees in that pond. These gopi bumblebees drank the flood of sweet nectar-words trickling from the lotus flower of Madhumangalas splendid happy mouth. They became intoxicated with transcendental bliss, and laughed with graceful charm. 150 When Krsna heard these words He pretended to be filled with anger. He then said to beautiful Radha: If this toll is not paid to Me, I will take all these gopis to the great King Kamadeva as his prisoners. The twenty three and a half moons are calculated in the following way: Her face is one moon, Her cheeks are two moons, Her forehead is a half moon, and Her fingernails and toenails are twenty moons. Certain varieties of lotus flowers blossom at night, and then close up with the appearance of day. Radha is here compared to such a lotus flower.

151 At that point Campakalata said: My dear friend Radha, who is this great King Kamadeva? I have never heard of any such person anywhere in this world. I think this Kamadeva is simply the figment of Krsnas imagination. He cleverly glorifies the name, prowess, and greatness of this Kamadeva only to make fun of us and laugh. 152 My dear moon-faced Kundalata, when Lord Krsna, the supreme Kamadeva, the moon of Gokula, heard Campakalatas words, He glanced at moon-faced Radha and spoke the following playful words in that assembly of gopis: 153 That great King Kamadeva eternally reigns in his kingdom on this pleasant Govardhana, the best of hills. He personally told Me that if you gopis become too proud I should bring you to him to become his slaves. 154 In this way Radha, stopped in Her attempt to visit the sacrificial arena, as sprinkled with the sweet nectar of feigned anger at Lord Krsna. She pierced Lord Krsna with the sharp arrows of her dancing crooked eyes and spoke to Him the following honeyed words: 155 My dear hero, by drinking the madhvika honey of the lotus flower of this gopis face You have certainly attained the topmost pinnacle of spiritual purity. The beautiful-eyed young girl speaking to You has, after completing all Her household duties, come to this solitary place specifically to be with You . 156 Seeing the very sweet nectar quarrel of the divine couple, who are the original teachers of the arts of playful jokes, Nandimukhi wished to pacify the two adversaries. With this end in view she humbly spoke the following words to Lord Hari: 157 O king of the toll-collectors, please follow the path of piety and give up disturbing these girls who carry on their heads pitchers filled with milk-products for the auspicious sacrifice. O moon of Nanda Maharajas dynasty, do this, and You will become glorious and famous. 158-60 At the base of Govardhana, the best of hills, is a glorious forest where the divine couple enjoy pastimes. In that forest are many pleasant trees, fragrant flowers, and melodious birds, and there is a lake of very clear fresh water. In some places maddened bumblebees hum melodiously in their honey-filled hives surrounded by aromatic flowers. In some places cuckoos sometimes warble sweetly, intoxicated by drinking the nectar in the forest of mango blossoms. In some places peacocks sometimes dance with happy enthusiasm, and in other places the peacocks sometimes mew with joy. In some other places parrots sometimes chatter loquaciously as they eat many splendid, palatable, sweet mangoes. 161 Tomorrow these girls will meet Your Lordship at this same place in this grove by this lake. At that time they will pay this toll in full. For the time being I will become their bail. 162 Because the gopis promise to return [nirvartana] to this lake on Govardhana Hill in order to pay the toll [dana], this place will be known as Dana-nirvartana. 163 After hearing these words, Krsna set the gopis free. Gentle laughter decorated the gopis beautiful smiling faces, and they considered that all their desires were fulfilled. Gazing at Lord Krsna from the corners of their eyes, the happily left for the sacrificial arena. 164 The two female bees of Radhas eyes remained with the two intoxicated male bees of Krsnas eyes. Radha gracefully turned Her neck and gazed at Krsna from the corner of Her eyes, and Her entire body became tossed about by the waves of the ocean of amorous love. Smiling, She then left that place along with all Her gopi-friends. 165 At that time the bumblebee of Lord Mukunda attained transcendental pleasure by drinking the sweet honey of the gopis faces. This bee drank through the mouth that was the corner of Lord Mukundas eyes. 166 As Krsna herded the surabhi cows He seemed like a handsome crown decorating the summit of Govardhana Hill. He recounted the nectarean toll-collecting joking conversation, and both He and His cowherd friends became filled with happiness. 167 As Srimati Radharani entered the sacrificial arena, Her bodily lustre illuminated the ten directions with a golden hue, Her dancing sidelong glances darkened the ten directions with a beautiful glistening blue colour, Her gentle smile whitened the ten directions, and the nectar of Her conversation filled the ten directions with sweetness. 168 The gopis then offered respectful obeisances to the sages, gave the glistening milk-products to them, and received from them many beautiful ornaments and other valuables. After this, they went to Radha-kunda, happily talking about their toll-pastimes with Krsna. 169 The gopis glistened with their own transcendental beauty and good-fortune, and also with the various ornaments they received from the best of sages. 170 Radha, the learned scholar of transcendental amorous love, became sprinkled with the nectar of pure love for Krsna. Agitated with love, and manifesting various ecstatic symptoms She loudly glorified Her beloved Krsna in the company of Her intimate friends.
Srimati Radharani's intention is ironical. She has not completed her household duties, and Her association with Krsna is not voluntary, but forced by Him.

171 Sri Sri Radha and Krsna are the crest jewel of all young lovers in all the three worlds. They enjoy eternally fresh and new transcendental pastimes. By Their magical power They have rejuvenated Kamadeva, who had been burned to ashes. Even the demigod Brahma cannot properly describe Their glories. 172 As she heard the nectarean description of these pastimes, Kundalata became drowned in the ocean of transcendental bliss. She and her friend Sumukhi at once left that place, eager to see Sri Sri Radha and Krsna, the jewel of all lovers. 173 Sri Sri Radha and Krsna are like two blue and golden jewels in the nectar ocean of the dana-keli pastime, and They delight the hearts of Radhas playful gopi friends. Although I am greedy for material things and although I am spiritual blind, I nevertheless yearn someday to see Them face to face. 174 A blind person found this cintamani jewel of Sri Sri Radha-Madhavas dana-keli pastimes at the base of Govardhana Hill. That blind man prays that the dear followers of Srila Rupa Gosvami become pleased by gazing at this jewel. 175 Taking a blade of grass between my teeth, I repeatedly beg that birth after birth I may obtain the dust of Srila Rupa Gosvamis lotus feet.

Sri Gopala-virudavali
(Calling Out to Lord Gopala)
by Srila Jiva Goswami Prabhupada translated by Kusakratha dasa 1 May this poem, Gopala-virudavali, become like a garden of desire creepers to give pleasure to Lord Gopala. 2 If Brahma, Brahmas sons, Siva, all the splendid devotees of the goddess of fortunes husband, the personified Vedas, and all the residents of the material universes and the spiritual Vaikuntha worlds, are singing the Vrndavana pastimes of the killer of Agha without their lips ever becoming tired, then why do I now write these words in verse and prose? 3 Although this poem is just like the mediocre poetry of may other foolish, greedy authors, proud of thinking themselves learned poets, I shamelessly continue to write. 4 O Lord whose pastimes please Your devotees, O Lord whose descent to the Earth has created spiritual narrations everywhere, O Lord whose virtues have no equal or superior, O Lord whose splendour defeats the splendour of a host of sapphires, O Lord dressed in a splendid golden dhoti, O Lord whose transcendental qualities delight the ear, O Lord decorated with colourful jewels, O Lord whose victory over the demons delights your friends, O Lord whose glories fulfil the worlds desires, O Lord whose names, when even briefly glorified, bring great pleasure, O Lord whose sweet flute music enchants all moving and non-moving living entities, O glistening nectar moon risen from the ocean of your father and glorified by a great family, O Lord who liberated these who deserve a terrible hell, O splendid sun whose face delights the eyes, O Lord who filled this world with pleasure and then returned to Your own abode, O Lord who joked with playful words of rebuke, O Lord who sits, as if bound, e hearts of the faithful, O Lord fragrant with kindness to the devotees, O Lord whose smile protects those filled with terrible fears, O Lord whose eyes are glorified in hundreds and hundreds of books, all glories to You! 5 May my heart rest on He who is the crown of all handsome men, whose splendour defeats the king of sapphires, who has a host of glorious virtues, who is the king of all opulences, whose power is limitless, who checks the demons pride, whose pastimes please everyone, and who is fond of the flute. 6 O shelter of Vrndavana, O auspiciousness of Vrndavana, O Lord whose nectar glances are drunk by the people of Vrndavana! 7 O Lord, as You enter Vrndavana, you come with the cows and boys to a place where all can see You. The people gaze at You at every moment. 8 O Lord who pleased Your affectionate relatives, O Lord who celebrated Your birthday with a party like those in Svargaloka, O Lord to whom visitors gave many gifts, O Lord who delighted the happy and prosperous king of Vraja, O Lord who made the demoness Putana a follower of Your mother, O Lord whose soft feet overturned the cart, O Lord whose transcendental names were revealed by Garga Acarya, O Lord who easily killed the menacing Madhu demon, O Lord eager to purchase some fruit with the golden coins of Your broken words, O Lord who day after day filled eloquent Sukadeva Gosvami with bliss, O Lord who enjoys many wonderful pastimes with Your friends, o Lord embraced by smiling Balarama and Your devotees, O Lord who tried to solve the mystery of the wandering calves' disappearance, O Lord who to keep the peace returned home with calves that were only a magical illusion, O Lord who made a new stream of happiness flow from the theft of the boys and calves, O Lord who, personally b g the calves, bested Brahma, in the contest of strength, O Lord whose waist Your mother bound with a long rope, O Lord who rescued Nalakuvara and Manigriva from the he fate of being trees, O Lord who enjoys pastimes without ever becoming tired, O Lord who wanders in the forest with Your friends, 9 because Your birth created a birth of happiness, Your opulence opulence, and Your pastimes pastimes, and because Vraja became plunged in a rising ocean of nectar, intense hope now rises in this old man. 10 O Lord who lives in glorious, splendid, ever-new Vraja, O Lord who without embarrassment plays and jokes with countless friends in the forest named Vrndavana, O Lord whose pastimes are happy and auspicious, 11 O form of bliss, beautiful Govardhana, Vrndavana, and the sandy banks of the Yamuna which all gave great pleasure to You, bring us under their spell. 12 O Lord who plays with the calves, O Lord who killed Vatsasura, O Lord who, swallowed by Baka forced Him to spit You out,

13 it is not wonderful that You quickly pushed into the void the demon Vyomasura, who pretended to join the boys' game of stealing lambs, or that when Aghasura swallowed You and everyone else, You make him pure and sinless, although these were a great wonder for Dama and Your other friends. May my mind be always fixed on these pastimes. 14 O Lord who, when Brahma stole the cowherd boys, tricked him and bewildered his intelligence, O Lord whose thoughts are filled with mercy, O lord who attracts Your followers, 15 even though Brahma, displaying his illusory potency, stole away Your vraja-friends, still, You give him vraja-bhakti and You are filled with mercy and forgiveness for him. 16 O Lord, holding the flute, and covered by the dust raised by Your cows, Your walking defeats the graceful movements of the elephant. "O Lord who went to the serpent's lake, O Lord who wished to destroy the poison, O Lord who dove into the water, O Lord who, fighting with the king of serpents, broke his strength and danced on him, please bewilder him, please place him in distress." This was the sages' prayer. 17 Day after day herding Your cows, You please all the forest-goddesses. O Lotus-eyed Lord, crushing Kaliya on the he head with the violence of Your dancing, You made the Yamuna free of poison. 18 O Lord who plays with the cowherd boys, who meets with Your friends, who playfully fights with them, who easily defeats the demons, who went to the serpent's lake, who became happy when the poison was gone, You shine with great splendour. O Lord whose dancing weighed heavily on the serpent's hundreds of splendidly jewelled hoods, who exiled the dangerous, sinful snake and his followers, who thus made the lake beautiful, who are splendidly powerful, free of all cares, who rests in Your own home, and who gently smiles, please appear before me. 19 O Lord who extinguished the poison fire in the water, who extinguished the forest fire on the land, and who, having extinguished both fires, returned to Vraja and with a glance created a great shower of nectar, I worship You. 20 O source of auspiciousness, happiness, and protection for Vrndavanas cows, all glories to You! 21 Protecting the cows, playing, delighting Your friends, killing Dhenukasura, gradually becoming full of lustre, increasing the glory of Your youth with the splendour of Your face and limbs in Your sixth year, and delighting the eyes of the beautiful-eyed gopis, You are very happy. 22 O Lord who dances with Your friends, O wrestler, O Lord more splendid than bilvas and other fruits, O Lord who would playfully imitate the cows and run like the horses, O Lord who would jump without any inhibition, O Lord who killed the demon that kidnapped Your elder brother, O Lord that mercifully drank up the great forest-fire, 23 O Lord, Your pastimes with Your friends, which seem bound with rivalry, and in the midst of which You swallowed a forest-fire, are only for their pleasure. 24 O Lord charming as spring, O Lord pleasant as summer, O Lord splendid as the monsoon season, O Lord with the limitless playfulness of autumn, O Lord with the wonderful handsomeness of winter! 25 O Lord whose splendid, sweet music makes the living entities wild with bliss! 26 O Lord, again and again manifesting the glorious music of Your flute, with Your extraordinary transcendental teachings You make the conscious and unconscious tremble with love. Ah! These were the gopis words. 27 O Lord who stopped the sacrifice for Indra, O Lord decorated for the splendid sacrifice for Govardhana Hill, O Lord whose form is graceful, O Lord who delights Your friends, O Lord who circumnambulated the hill, O Lord who made Your people offer respect to the hill, O Lord who appeared as the hill, O splendid, handsome Lord, O Lord whose splendid handsomeness broke crooked-hearted Indra, O Lord who lifted the tall hill, O Lord who neutralised the rainclouds' poison, O Lord who was kind to Indra, O Lord whom the demigods crowned king with a coronation bath, 28 May He who, speaking to his father and others, rejected the indra-yajna as opposed to the Vedic scriptures, stopped the yajna and, seeing rain bringing great suffering, placed a hill on the tip of His hand and became the shelter of Vraja's people, protect us. 29 O Lord crowned by the surabhi cow in a coronation-bathing ceremony, O Lord to whom You offensive adversary surrendered with life and soul, 30 You were then bathed by the demigod kings, Your transcendental position become perfectly manifest, and everyones heart became anointed with love and joy. 31 O Lord who mercifully protected Your father when he was kidnapped by Varuna, O Lord worshipped because You expertly protect the devotees! O Lord who returned with Your father, O Lord who dispelled Your fathers illusion, O Lord whose eyes are the abode of transcendental glory, O maintainer of the maintainers of the universe, O Lord whose graceful lotus feet delight everyone! 32 I take shelter of He whose eyes are red lotus flowers, who rescued His father from Varuna, and who showed to His people His own abode.

33 O Lord who, as time gradually turned into the hemanta season, stole the gopis garments and was pleased by their prayers, O Lord who, as it gradually became winter was decorated with a great garland of delightful blossoming flowers reaching from Your auspicious cheeks to Your waist, to Your lotus feet, and filled with bumblebees, O Lord who with strength greater and more splendid than the untouchable sun protects the people of Vraja, O Lord who paints pictures with Your friends, O Lord who happily plays with them in a great banana tree, O Lord whose handsome eyes and smile defeat jasmine flowers, O Lord who intelligently killed the demons disguised as devotees, and made them flee Your transcendental power, O Lord who, drinking a great forest fire, protected Your frightened friends, O Lord whose voice is the thunder of monsoon clouds, O Lord who in a wonderful moment glanced at the beautiful forest, which was like a dancing arena, O Lord whose desires were aroused by the splendour of autumn, which made the land glisten with thousands of lakes, O Lord who forgot Your home, O Lord who enjoyed a festival with Your friends, O Lord who played a flute as Your cows rested, 34 the arrogance of Your flute attracts airplanes from far away. Your sweetness stuns the demigoddesses and makes them fall from their airplanes. 35 O Lord who went on a pilgrimage to Ambikavana, O auspicious and opulent Lord, O Lord who enjoys limitless pastimes, O Lord glorious when You saved Your father from being swallowed by a serpent, O Lord who celebrated the holi festival with the gopis, although You were destined to be separated from them, O Lord who when Sankhacuda interrupted Your pastimes, distressed the gopis, and fled, You took his conchshaped jewel and destroyed his sins, 36 O Lord who was very happy to herd the cows, O Lord whose pastimes of music and dancing delighted the beautiful gopis, O Lord who is the greatest in all respects, O Lord who killed the fearful bull Arista, who was repeatedly attacking everyone, O Lord the description of whose glorious pastimes brings great transcendental pleasure. 37 After bringing a great calamity to Arista, He became pleased to see the prosperity of His happy relatives. He is glorified as He travels the Earth. All glories to Him! 38 May Lord Krsna, who is famous for killing the demons, who killed Kamsa, who is the destiny that kills repeated birth and death for the intelligent, who is an ocean of the splendour of transcendental glory, whose footprints in Vraja Brahma and the demigods yearn to attain, who was born in a family of His own devotees, and who is fond of the flute, appear before us.
