To Whom It May Concern: I am delighted to have the opportunity to write on behalf of Brittney Darner. Ive known Ms. Darner for better than a year and a half. In that time, she has been my student in one Honors class and two creative writing workshops. Each time, she proved herself an excellent student. More than that, with her special warmth and enthusiasm, she helped to make every class the kind of productive, engaged class I strive to achieve. She made my job as instructor easier, and she enriched the experience for her classmates. In the workshops, Ms. Darner was always fully motivated. She provided careful and sensitive readings of the work of fellow students. Her detailed comments were noteworthy for specificity and generosity. I know others students valued them, as did I. Ms. Darner possesses a gifted intellect enhanced by an unstinting desire to learn and do well. She does not merely accept criticism, she seeks it out. She does not simply chew ideas, she digests and metabolizes them into productive work. She does this with firm discipline. She is, without exception, dependable and responsible. Along with a willingness to take risks and try new things, these qualities make her an excellent student. Perhaps what is most special about Brittney is her spirit. She is, quite simply, a joy. And this aspect of her is contagious. She lifts a room and brightens it. These are not mere attributes, they are qualities of character.

If given the opportunity to study abroad, Ive no doubt Ms. Darner will take every advantage of the experience to grow in new ways. I dare say she will add to that experience for others. I believe anyone who works with her, faculty and student alike, will count it as a bit of good fortune to have done so. I offer my strong recommendation on her behalf and encourage you to give this deserving young woman a chance to take advantage of this educational opportunity.
