Hello friends! It’s Christy here with another card for our Travel Destination/Favorite Place Challenge! For my first card I did the travel destination part of this challenge, so for today’s card I decided to focus on my favorite place. And for me, that’s the library. Being surrounded by all those books filled with so many writers’ thoughts and emotions is my happy place. When the pandemic first hit, my initial thought was: I’ve got to get to the library before they close! But unfortunately, I was at work, and by the time I got out, it was too late. I spent many months dreaming of the day that the library would be able to open again, and when it finally did, it was such a joyous occasion!
So with today’s card, I decided to capture those days when I was dreaming of the library reopening. I started with the sweet little squirrel from Happy Hugs, since squirrels are one of my most favorite animals, and I definitely hoard books like a squirrel hoards nuts! I added in all the books from Den Sweet Den and colored them in a rainbow with Copic markers, then trimmed the images out with their matching dies.
For my focal panel, I die cut the Stitched Journaling Card out of some Mermaid cardstock, and added in a Simple Stitched Hillside Border in Noble Fir. I stamped the sentiment from Den Sweet Den in Noble Fir Ink and adhered my sweet squirrel with one book, because I would never be caught anywhere without one! Then I took the Outside In Stitched Thought Bubble Stackables and die cut that from white cardstock and placed that above his head. I filled that with all the extra books the little squirrel was dreaming of reading.
To tie in the rainbow theme, I die cut a piece of Really Rainbow 6×6 paper with the Outside In Stitched Rectangle Stackables and adhered that to my Mermaid card base, then popped the focal panel up with foam tape. I added a bit of Stardust Stickles because books are magic!
I finished off the inside as well, which you can check out in the video tutorial on my YouTube channel, Christy Gets Crafty. I have been loving everyone’s interpretation of this challenge! Keep those submissions coming!
Thank you so much for sharing with us today, Christy! Your card is just perfect!
