4 Batshit Crazy Stars
This is going to be a short and quick review not worthy of this book, but I'm just not in a review mood at the moment.
This was crazy awesome in that the characters were (as I said in my review title, just to be redundant) bat shit crazy.
Seriously.
Melody and Liam were fucking nuts.
They say that psychopathy is a creation of nature (you are born that way) and sociopathy is a result ofjacked the fuck up nurturing or environment. Now, obviously I am not an expert and I'm oversimplifying something way serious...however, Liam and Melody have...issues.
They are awful people who do awful things. They commit every heinous crime under the sun and they have no qualms or remorse about any of it.
But I loved them for it.
Because this was a book about the damned Mafia, folks, and the Mafia doesn't fuck around.
So many times authors write books about gangs or motorcycle clubs, but they sugarcoat what they do or make them into reformed criminals who were either regretful of their crimes or doing it under the guise of making something right (I'm looking at you my beloved Kristen Ashley).
But nay nay, not J.J.McAvoy. She totally went balls to the wall on this and made her Mafia the damned Mafia people.
LOVE it.
My ONLY complaint with this story was the time frame. I felt that certain things moved waaaaaay too fast.
For example, (view spoiler)
But maybe that's just me.
Otherwise, this book was great and I can't wait for #2 and more from McAvoy in general. Not just you, I had problems with the writing style a bit and the time being done all too fast for my taste as well. Same goes for the believability. However, the peeves were ignored because I loved the characters and the story.

Yeah, the believable factor was definitely an issue for me at some points (like the rat scene lol) but I too just went with it because I loved the characters and admired the fact that the author really went for it.
I couldn't get over the time frame thing though, thus my less than 5 star rating.

Honestly, it's been so long since I read this...I don't remember all the details. Sorry!

Can I ask you something else? I heard the treatment of women in this book is horrifying. Like i understand murdering people and everything because they are mafia and i even understand hero being sexist because of his upbringing but heroine treating other women like shit? i thought since she is a female don who probably experiences lot of sexism herself, she would be against sexism- like surely a strong badass women would hate patriarchy and misogyny. If she was docile, obedient then i understand. "You are a floozy, a manky, a whore, a woman of no importance or brains with nothing to note but a good ass and a deep throat." Like apparently this is what one of them says. Like the hero himself is such a manwhore but if he guys sleeps around its okay but women? nah they are totally vilified.

I can handle gruesome murders and torture but not blatant slut shaming, misogyny and patriarchy that is portrayed positively and never addressed is no for me. Do you think I would enjoy this book? Is there any chance i am wrong and jumping to conclusion
I had the same issue. That 10 day shit made no sense. Also I had an issue that considering both of them were hungry to rule and not so keen on sharing Liam did not challenge Melody at all. But kudos for women empowerment.
Am I evil that I didn't want Melody to get pregnant or have a baby because I felt it would have made her soft?

I barely remember the story here as it's been so long since I read this lol.
