The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2)
by
Where should I begin? Firstly, this was by no means as good as the first book. The first book was a mix of thrill and adventure and the mystery surrounding everything was something that gave the chills.
On the other hand, the second novel failed to give me the goosebumps and I would sometimes lose interest. The storyline felt dragged on and phase two was a boiled potato. I felt like Mr. Dashner put all the characters and had them running around like pigs for nothing. It kind of got on my nerves and frustrated the hell out of me.
The only reason I gave this 3 stars is because it finally picked up on the last 70 pages or so and more happened in those pages than the rest of the book. Although, I still feel baffled and the mystery has gotten old.
The characters, well, they're an add to the story. I love Mihno, Newt and Thomas, when he is not complaining. I love their conversations and I really laugh with them and their Glader words.
The Betrayal plot might appeal to you, the author managed to pull that off nicely and managed to distance two characters, completely.
The ending? Confusing as hell. I mean alright, I love me some tight cliffhanger but this one was a bit too baffling for me to handle. Why does Mr. Dashner want to perplex the storyline even more? I want to get down to the core of it and I want to finally find out what it is they're doing all those things for.

WICKED is good. Nah.

“Yeah, right," Minho said. "And Frypan's gonna start having little babies, Winston'll get rid of his monster acne, and Thomas here'll actually smile for once."
Thomas turned to Minho and exaggerated a fake smile. "There, you happy?"
"Dude," he responded. "You are one ugly shank.”

I'm near the end of The Death Cure and let me tell you....things have only gotten even more confusing.

Seriously? Why is he doing this? Couldn't he just kept it more like the first book? I loved the first book.

Me too, I thought the first book was amazing and it definitely went downhill in my opinion. I guess he tried to make it more full of intrigue and mystery, but I much preferred the action of The Maze Runner

Yup. He tried to take a different turn at things but failed altogether..

I kind of agree with you, the middle part of the book was boring, just walking and talking and Minho was annoying as hell, but it picked up after and moved on. However, I liked this better than the first one, more complexed.
Well I liked this one better. I found the first one poorly written (in my opinion, again) and I wasn't "compelled" to read it. This one I wanted to know what would happen next.

It's not that I didn't like this one. I liked it, hence the 3 stars but it didn't excite me as much as the first book did. ^^

It surely isn't the best-est as far as the writing goes but it's still good. I just hope the 3rd one picks up. I didn't really enjoy this one.

Yeah, book 1 is still better and I can't wait for book 3 :)

Wicked really isn't good. I fought tempation during this book to google it and find out what happens. The boom was very boring to me and I would not recommend it. The Betrayal was a stupid point to me and did not make sense. I have no idea why that had to be in the story. Although this book was unpredictable, I really did not enjoy. Most books make sense when thought about, but this one seemed to just be a random dream that turned into a story. There was just no need for any of the plot in this story. It did pick up in the last 70 pages, but the ending of the book frustrated me even more. I felt more drama could have been created by leaving some people behind.
WICKED is most defiantly not good! Like why would you even do this to them?! I can't seem to comprehend WICKED's logic on that.
I agree completely that this wasn't as good as the first book because that first book was amazing! This doesn't, however, mean that this book was trash. I feel like it was actually a good book for a second book in a series (for example I wasn't really feeling Insurgent which is the second book in the Divergent series). The beginning (the set up and before starting the scorch trials) was actually pretty good with the suspense and all, but yes I do agree that the middle part could use some polishing. This didn't make want to stop reading though. I wanted to know answers and understand things more clearly so of course I read on! Okay yes, they were running around like pigs but what better way to introduce the cranks than by making them go through crank city?
Yes, the last 70 or so pages did pick up, but isn't that all books in a series? You want to draw the reader's curiosity in so they pick up the next book, but you also don't want to give too much stuff away. If Dashner did continue to keep going and add more pages to make it longer, then it would've spoiled some stuff so I think it's fine that it was only a short amount of pages. I did however liked the end of chapter 64 when Thomas heard a voice in his head. When I found out that it was Brenda, I feel like that's enough to raise the interest of the reader into wondering why she could talk to Thomas in his head. I feel like this is a good example of what I'm trying to bring out.
"...and Thomas, when he is not complaining." Your sentence couldn't be anymore true! He was painfully annoying with the whole "Oh my gosh Teresa, blah blah blah Teresa." I did really like Minho and Newt because without them, I probably would've stopped reading or not have been more interested than I was. (Okay I admit it, I did start using their Glader jargon too after I read the books).
Yes the betrayal was good, but did Teresa and Aris really need to go that far? (*cough* that extreme make out session *cough*) Like I think Thomas would've gotten the point after one or two kisses. It's as if the uncomfortableness shifted from Thomas to me. *shudders in thought* Poor Thomas.
Again, I think this is to raise some interest for the next book (You did express how bored you were with the majority of it, so perhaps this was a way to draw you into reading the next book). But yes, I agree it was a bit confusing in the end.

Exactly. Bad sequel. I still enjoyed some parts of course, hense the 3 stars but in no way is it better or nearly half as good as the first one.

Confusing and it got so with no reason at all. It was a complicated series, the first book took care of that but then this book made it even more so and that's frustrating. I expected to get some answers not the same friggin' thing with a different setting.

Change my stars a second ago, shortly after I finished. I thought the first book was supesenful. I guess I was wrong; it gave me the run around near the end. just like the last chapter of the maze runner. But that was necessary because we were moving onto book#2...nope. When reading down the middle I was going give this book a solid four stars. But since the last three chapters it was down to a three star.Ugh, I really don't like to give books I'm looking forward to reading such low stars...but I had no choice. I just know I'm not the only one that felt the story kept going now where. hopefully the third will be the charm. Just hope the movies is as good as this book was.
