It's amazing (in a kind of depressing way) how many talented authors are overlooked and under-appreciated, especially when it's "at home" rather than abroad. It invariably makes me wonder why this author and not another.
This book really spoke to me, too. It made a deep enough impression that, a full five years after I read it, I still remember that connection I felt to Etta. And for the record, I don't think it's egotistical to experience fiction through being reminded of one's self. I see every person I meet as a reflection of some part of myself, and really, what is a character, if not a person we meet, even if it's just in our imaginations?
The Rector's Daughter has been on my "to read" list for several years. I just haven't been able to get my hands on a (free) copy, which I'd really prefer...But perhaps it's time to hunt it down. Thank you for reminding me of this great author!
